Other Things to Note:
This home is full of history and has been in a prominent spot downtown since 1840 after the fire of 1838 destroyed most of the buildings. It was completely restored over the past few years and much of the original structure is still evident. This was the home of George A. Trenholm, the last Secretary of Treasury for the Confederacy from July 1864 – April 1865. He was considered one of the wealthiest men in the south at the time, making his fortune in imports/exports, steamships, railroad and real estate. He was also confirmed to be the inspiration for the character of Rhett Butler in Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind.
This property is located next to some of Charleston's oldest, most cherished homes as well as top dining and shopping destinations. Nearby attractions include Waterfront Park with breathtaking views overlooking Charleston Harbor, the renowned King Street shopping district and James Beard award winning restaurants like Husk and Fig.

We had a wonderful stay. So close to everything. Beautiful home with a great southern feel.
Gorgeous property in extremely walkable Located at an extremely busy traffic corner
House restoration amazing and the kitchen, baths and beds wonderful. Traffic noise is loud in the main house, not an issue in the super cute kitchen house or in the perfect courtyard. There are lots of fairly steep stairs - the powder room is down half a flight. There is no family room on the main house - we ended up sitting around the dining table which is nicely connected to the kitchen.
There are some very harshly worded warning signs in the kitchen house and the ALL CAP warning about not touching the golf cart was a bit rough and felt less than welcoming.
The bicycle lock was on the gate when we arrived as the concierge was late - we don’t recommend arriving after dark as you don’t actually use the Charleston “front door”.
All that said, it is an amazing house and the owners have created a special place which we are fortunate to have lived a weekend in. Be prepared for lots of tourists to take photos of your perfect porch and assume you are the lucky owner.
Perfect house in a perfect location!!
We had the best girls weekend in Charleston. The house was amazing and we were able to walk everywhere!
We had a great time in Charleston! The house was perfect for the seven of us & the location was great, within walking distance of all the sites. It's right across the street from the grocery store as well. The home is beautiful & well equipped. Every room has a lovely chandelier! We enjoyed sitting on the porch or in the courtyard with our morning coffee or evening cocktail. Dave & the Duvet team were very cordial & helpful during our stay. We highly recommend this home & a visit to Charleston!
Gracious, Comfortable and Centrally Located
Our group of 6 is just home from a wonderful weekend in Charleston. The Colonial was PERFECT in terms of location (walk anywhere in the city PLUS across the street from a grocery store). The rooms were all comfortable, and the outdoor terrace was the perfect spot for morning coffee or happy hour, and the kitchen was well-appointed. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars was that it was on a heavily-traveled corner, making it hard to sleep in. That being said, All 6 of us would go back to the same house in a second.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share this lovely review. I am so happy that you and your friends thoroughly enjoyed the Colonial and that you are already looking forward to coming back to see us! It is great to know that everything about your time with us--from location to the accommodations was just right! It was a delight and that you had a great visit to Charleston. We hope to see all of you again!
Daughters Graduation Week 2017 from C of C
All I can say is I wish I would of found "The Colonail" House my daughter's first year at C of C in Charleston vs. her senior year. We had a lovely champagne toast with her roommates families one night so it was nice to celebrate them more personally in a home verses a restaurant. I loved the patio garden and the extra room in the kitchen house. Also we where so close to one of our favorites restaurants 167 Raw and Harris Teeter the grocery store. The porches had the most beautiful flower boxes and hanging ferns.... every once in a while I would see tourist taking photo's of the house. We rented a car but you do not need to , plus the drive way sits really close to the corner and did not feel safe backing out of the driveway.... so uber or taxi there from the airport. We never used are car once. If you need to do a day trip to the beach car rental agency right down the street.
What a wonderful review, too, Suzi! It really means a lot to hear that we were such an important part of an event as special as your daughter's graduation. I'll be passing the compliments along to the rest of our team as soon as I can. Hurry back to see us again soon!
