My great grandparents settled in Valdez, Alaska in 1890. I enjoy Alaska with my husband, Steve, and our two sons, Ian, 2, Isaac, 4. We love getting outdoors: hiking, fishing, bike riding, enjoying long evenings watching our kids play in the sprinkler, or winters of shoveling snow in the 4pm moonlight. I am a freelance musician and music teacher in our public schools. Steve works "On The Slope"' as a chemist. Before kids, we traveled extensively. We built a brand-new house that is splendid. We are not ready to move in, yet, so we hope you will gently enjoy it for us.

This house is absolutely Immaculate, everything we could have asked for and more The home was spotless and clean, very comfortable. Was a wonderful place for us to spend our Christmas holiday with our son who is stationed in Elmendorf Air Force Base. We were able to have him stay with us for the Christmas holiday thanks to this these lovely people sharing their amazing home.. The owners were amazing helpful, and kind. They made everything so smooth, and simple from rental to check out.

Let me start off by saying that the owner is Top-Notch. Not only did Ilona keep in contact with us during our stay, she went out of her way to ensure that everything was perfect.
There's another review here that I heartily disagree with. The house was in a perfect location. You're very close to the city without having to BE in the city. The picturesque views were outstanding to say the least. Yes, there is a railway near by but with the windows closed you can barely hear a thing. The train didn't disturb us once in the 8 nights that we spent in this wonderful home.
The pictures don't do justice to how nice this home is inside. The amenities are just as described and we didn't lack for necessities while there. There's even a nice sound system for the built-in speakers upstairs. Nothing like sipping a nice hot cup of coffee in front of the fireplace watching the sun come up over the mountains with a bit of music in the background. It's one of those "Ahhh" moments.
As far as the nearby attractions, etc. We ate at the Glacier Brewhouse several times (crab legs, they are an addiction!). We took a quick trip down to Whittier for a glacier cruise, down to Kenai for a day of salmon and trout fishing, up to Talkeetna and then Denali and finally a quick trip to Glacier view to the North East. All of this was within easy driving distance from the house.
I'd recommend this rental for anyone deciding to venture to Anchorage. You won't be disappointed!
Very nice, new, beautiful home. Amazing location, beautiful views from the large picture windows. We, the family with kids, loved our stay here. Owner is very thoughtful and took care of minor details (even a cell phone charger was provided). Everything from bathroom supplies to linen etc were top class.

VERY LOUD LOCATION!
This home is in a horrible location! Just steps out the backyard is the railroad which runs several times every night and again shortly after 5am. We were woken up every night multiple times with the train sounding its horn and early every morning with the thunderous sounds of loading/unloading in the rail yard. The opposite direction is China Town and the military base. The house is new so it was nice but we only had hot water the last 2 days. The owner said it was due to working out the kinks of a new home, but there were MANY rules taped to the walls - so we weren't the first visitors. If you don't mind a LOT of noise stay here! If you want a quiet, relaxing home skip this one
I would have happily offered a refund for you to find other accommodations had you notified me during your stay.
We’ve had 50+ guests at our house this summer. You are the very first to mention our neighbors or the train. Thank you.
The railroad runs through downtown and along the inlet. Our house was purposely built to reduce noise with fiber cement siding and sound reducing windows. Closing the windows mutes any sound to practically inaudible. All our neighbors have large decks and frequently use them. Most people notice our house is in a very good location. Our neighbors like the people who live nearby.
In your review are you referring to the elderly Korean community in the apartments? Behind their apartment buildings are a few acres of garden plots they tend. I am a civilian who works on the military base. The military are respectful, responsible people and a pleasure to work with.
The paper on the walls are directions for using our top down/bottom up curtains. I refer to them every time I adjust the curtains.
You requested a separate bed for your daughters. We purchased a new twin and furnished a room for you. You requested a Blu-ray player, we bought one for you. We called/emailed/texted you in the first two days to ask if you had questions or concerns.
On the 5th day of your 7-day visit, you alerted us there was no hot water in the showers during your entire stay. You requested a refund. I was dumbfounded you hadn’t contacted us sooner. We got a plumber out that afternoon. The problem was fixed the next morning. I fully refunded all of your remaining nights.
You recently emailed me to say you were disappointed with my less than 5-star review of your stay. That was also the very first time you mentioned concerns about the train or people in the neighborhood. You wrote, “We refrained from reviewing your property and our stay so we wouldn't ruin your chances of making money off of a nice home in a HORRIBLE location.”
You changed your mind.
Nonetheless, if your review alerts prospective guests, good. I want guests to feel comfortable about their stay. Good luck to your family.
We were a bit surprised when we pulled up to an unassuming ranch style home, but we were even more surprised when we stepped into the home to be greeted by soaring space and a spectacular view. The home comes with every amenity except for air conditioning or an attic fan. It was quite warm in early August, and we Southerners are used to refrigerated air. Once the screens are on the rest of the windows, cross-ventilation will be possible, and with a few more fans we would have been fine. The layout and finishes are lovely, the creature comforts - bedding, dishware, etc. were top-notch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Guests with small children may need to know in advance that the backyard is not fenced (at least at the time of our visit) and the house is situated on a bluff.
Thank you for your very helpful feedback. We will put screens on windows downstairs, too (us Alaskans didn't think it'd get hot enough downstairs, so thanks for letting us know!). Little children concerns that you mentioned, and more, were noted in my 'children welcome?' field. I moved those notes to the additional comments field. I ask inquiring families the age of their children, and if they understand our concerns for the safety of the very little ones. We recently stayed at this property for five nights and it was perfect , no issues at all and the location and property were stunning and as advertised. The minute we walked in the door we were all blown away with this fabulous home in a prime location with city, mountain and ocean views . The decor and amenities were 5 star and the owner was fantastic.
Minutes away from downtown and and all it has to offer as well as the costal trail we never had to look for activities or drive to far to do day trips , the whole family is looking forward to coming back and staying here next year .

Additional information about rental rates
No parties or events. No smoking inside or outside premises; not butts in trash. Hazards for very little children: steep steps to downstairs, upstairs windows that open are low to floor. Deck and bathrooms have ladder-like fence and towel warmers. Beds are a little high off concrete floors. Hill at edge of backyard my 1 & 3 year-olds can navigate, but may steep for other kiddos (some reasons we're delaying moving in :) Clean it where you catch it; no fish guts in house or trash bins. Slow-to-close drawers and doors close themselves. Gently push them, and they will slow down to close. Blinds: Bottom-Up Top-Down. See instructions beside window for gentle use. Anchorage Municipality Room Tax Rate is 12% tax. If you stay more than 30 consecutive nights, taxes are waived. Monthly rates vary depending on season. Guests can choose to purchase the Damage Protection insurance or put down a fully refundable damage deposit of $1500. Your total quote will be inaccurately inflated, however, the damage deposit is not charged unless I make a damage claim. I never have, and hope you treat my house gently.
