Great place!!!!! The most wonderful, relaxing, quiet, great view of the ocean and private. The balcony was our place for coffee in the morning and adult drinks in the evening. The breeze felt great, open the windows and relaxed. Easy beach walk to town. The owner, Mr. Barratt was easy to communicate with, share lots of information. Mr. Cleveland Bain, security of the building, was the nicest person, gave us a great welcome and ideas for places to eat. Freeport was lay back and what we wanted. Very friendly people. Will come back!
Nice comments, nice guests Peter B
What a wonderful place!
Great clean, quiet beach. Meticulously maintained grounds. Fabulous building, very quiet. Pleasant sea breeze almost all the time, and the gentle sound of the surf to lull you to sleep. This condo offers a spectacular 180 degree view of the Caribbean. The balcony has morning sun and afternoon shade. The interior is nicely furnished with modern furniture, lovely (matching!) dishes and flatware and is very nicely decorated. We have stayed at 4 places along this same beach, and this is clearly the nicest.
Downsides: (1) You really need a car. You can walk to restaurants and shops, but it is a major outing, and there is no bus service this far down the beach. (2) The TV screen is quite small. (3) The balcony is the best part of this rental, but the balcony furniture has seen better days. The owner said he was preparing to update the furniture.
The owner is a notable on Grand Bahama, having been founder of the National Park and part of the planning of Freeport in the 60's. He has written several books about the island. I read one while there and enjoyed it.
We stayed at Bahama Reef in February of 2019 for 9 nights. Our experience on Grand Bahama Island was amazing. The apartment is in the last building before the channel on a beautiful 2 mile stretch of beach. There were some issues with cleanliness upon our arrival - nothing so serious we couldn't take care of ourselves, and some of the balcony furniture was broken. That being said, we spent hours on the balcony enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean and the beach. We also spent hours walking the beaches. They were well maintained, and we never felt unsafe. That also being said, we were never out late at night. Port Lucaya Marketplace is about a 40 minute walk away. Solomon's grocery store is about a 45 minute walk from the apartment. We opted not to rent a car, and instead used public transportation. We found that most bus drivers will take you to your destination for a few dollars more. By talking to locals, we learned you can take a bus to the ends of the island from the bus depot in Freeport early in the morning. Unfortunately, we learned that on our last day there, so were unable to go on those adventures. We took a glass bottomed boat tour that was fantastic!! We ate incredible food at several restaurants. Drank Sands beer and Bahama Mamas, Pina Coladas and Margaritas, and met wonderful people. Mr. Bain, the security guard at the apartment building, was a wealth of knowledge and always helpful. He is a gem! Bahama Reef was the perfect spot for our vacation. Within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, bars, and music. And quiet and peaceful mornings and evenings on the balcony. We LOVED it.
