Three bedroom (2 en-suite) historic property with all mod cons.
About Jo O'Farrell
We love travelling and visiting new places and particularly enjoy staying in holiday rentals where the owners really care about what they are providing and the experience their guests are enjoying and are not just using Gran's cast offs! We aim to provide a luxurious rural retreat in an historic setting but with all the mod cons and for those people who also appreciate having a unique place to stay but with quality hotel touches. As we live in the beautiful district of Uttlesford (home to 3,500 Listed Buildings) and have recently lovingly restored an historic building in a neighbouring village we have decided to help others enjoy this area too which was recently voted as the best rural district to live in, in Britain!

Immaculate, high quality property
This house is done up to a much higher standard than is usual for holiday cottages. Everything is top quality, the kitchen is very well equipped, the linen is gorgeous, the towels are fluffy, and there are many little touches which make it feel very special - toiletries, a welcome hamper with a good selection of food and drink etc. The owners are very friendly and accomodating. You will love staying here.
The Old Mission Hall is set in the heart of the rural village of High Roding, Essex. The village has a 14th Century pub serving good food and real ales around log fires as well as a vintage tea room serving breakfasts, lunches and homemade cakes. Country walks are literally on your doorstep with the Flitch Way (a safe walking/cycling route on the disused railway line linking the National Trust's Hatfield Forest and Great Notley Country Park) only a couple of miles away. As well as the historic market town of Great Dunmow (of Flitch Trials fame) 5 minutes drive away, Sawbridgeworth, Thaxted, Saffron Walden and the city of Chelmsford are all about 20 minutes drive away and have many excellent restaurants and retail and leisure opportunities too. Further afield there are Coggleshall, Halstead, Sudbury, Lavenham and Cambridge to explore. Within easy reach are a number of National Trust and English Heritage properties and magnificent gardens such as Audley End, Hylands Park, Colchester Castle the RHS garden at Hyde Hall, Beeleigh Abbey gardens near Maldon, Easton Lodge gardens near Great Dunmow and the Gibberd garden and sculpture park near Harlow. There are Art Galleries and Museums in both Great Dunmow and Saffron Walden with the Henry Moore Studio and Gardens about 30 minutes drive as is Duxford and the Imperial War Museum. The Essex / Suffolk coast with the seaside towns of Southend, Frinton, Aldeburgh and Southwold are about 60 - 90 minutes drive away. However, if discovering this beautiful part of Essex is not your thing we are also very handy for London and a 15 minute drive will get you to Stansted Airport or 20 minutes to Chelmsford where you can hop on a train for a 35-45 minute ride into London if you don't fancy the drive down the nearby M11. Alternatively, a 30 minute drive will take you to the London Underground Central Line Tube station of Epping.
If you want to stay local and just chill out perhaps after a freshly cooked breakfast at the village Tea Room you could walk around the village and footpaths across the fields to the windmill, then curl up with a book in front of the wood burner or take a 5 minute drive to Great Dunmow a lovely market town with individual shops and plenty of options for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea. For dinner you can make use of the huge oven in the range cooker or even better, pop next door to the pub for a warm welcome, real ales and good country pub food with the added convenience of being just a short stagger from home.
We are also ideally placed for many of the great wedding and event venues nearby such as Hylands House, Maidens Barn, The Reid Rooms, Leez Priory and Newland Hall.
