About the property

GREAT OCTOBER 2017 Weekday Discount!!!.....see rates. Are you looking for a vacation rental that provides peace and quiet? Want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of city life? Then this is the house for you! In 2008 Hurricane Ike devastated the Caplen Shore subdivision. Pelican Bluff is the first home to return. You will have complete privacy with no neighbors. Built in Sept. 2016, this beach house has a spectacular gulf view from the living room, master bedroom and guest bedroom! Sleeping quarters include master bedroom with king size bed, guest room with queen bed and a bunk room with 1 full and 1 twin bed. Beds for 7 people plus a queen sofa bed and twin roll away provides sleeping for up to 10 guests. All bedrooms include a TV and built in DVD player. The living room sports a big screen TV, WIFI & Pandora.. But the best part is the beachfront view! From the deck you can see 180 degrees with no obstructions. Watch the sun rise or sun set, see the ships travel on the Gulf and dolphins frolic in the water. A quick walk puts you on a secluded area of the beach with very little traffic. The grill, a built in picnic tables and outdoor shower downstairs make entertaining easy and enjoyable in any kind of weather. Built Sept 2, 2016. Also check out my first beachfront property Pelican Bay. It is located approx 1/4 mile from Pelican Bluff and can be viewed at property #562649

About Margene Walz

Hi, Welcome to my home – My name is Margene Walz. I am the owner and am thrilled to show you around. Many years ago I moved to California from Nebraska but have always missed the mid-western values and hospitality. Through the advice of my brother Mike Walz of Crystal Beach's Walz Family Builders I seized the opportunity to sell my California condominium and built on Bolivar. I appreciate the area and the hospitality. It is like coming back to my roots. I am very pleased to be able to share my home with you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. (By the way...the picture is of my great nephew, Alex. He photographs cuter than I do.)

Margene Walz purchased this house in 2016

Why Margene Walz chose Gulf Coast

Since my brother owns a home and a business in Crystal Beach I have visited many times. Each time I fell more and more in love with the area. I decided to invest my retirement money here and started with Pelican Bay. It has been such a pleasant experience with wonderful, wonderful guests! So when an opportunity arose I jumped at the chance to purchase a second home. I can't wait to share this peaceful stress-free beach with you.

What makes this house unique

The most spectacular thing about Pelican Bluff is the unobstructed beach front view. The front deck is 16' deep - 8' is covered and 8' is uncovered. Guests are able to enjoy the shade, read, sip a glass of wine or beer or tan in the sunshine. Since there are no neighbors guests will have a peaceful and quiet stay. The family area under the house includes a shower, a two built-in picnic tables and charcoal grill. It is a wonderful area that will accommodate many family members and guests. Plus it is brand new and offers you all the comforts of home with the additional bonus of hearing and watching the surf.

Second stay here and it was as wonderful and relaxing as the first! Clean, comfortable and the view!

  • 5 of 5

I have been fortunate enough to travel to beaches in Nassau, Mexico, Florida, Jamaica and the Grand Caymans.... and this Bolivar/Crystal Beach property has become one of my favorite places! No close neighbors in this VERY comfortable, clean home and the view is simply stunning. You can watch the sunrise while in bed from 2 of the 3 rooms. Not much traffic on this end of the beach and it's a perfect getaway. Margene attends to all the details and staying is just a delight! We hated to leave and were discussing our next visit as we drove away!

Great view, very quiet.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit, and we will return. The house is in very nice shape, well appointed, and clean. The deck is private, and has 180 degree unobstructed view of the gulf. The nearest house is at least 1/4 mile. Bird watching is top notch from the deck, and our dog had the time of his life. I suggest renting a golf cart for drives on the beach, a bird ID book, and an app called Marine Traffic. It will identify the ships you see offshore. (A bunch!) The Big Store is a short drive away, and has everything you need, except fresh seafood! We were unable to find a fish market, (JB's looked closed). Margene is a great host, and if you have any issues, she takes care of them ASAP.

Best location on bolivar with great views and seclusion!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed Sept 18-22, 2017, and enjoyed every day. Beach house was stocked with everything anyone could want, caught a 23 inch redfish at rollover pass, and saw some beautiful birds, even some pink pelicans (roseate spoonbills) on our last day. We are now planning to return during the winter to do some serious beach combing. Thanks, Ms Walz!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the very nice review. I appreciate guests taking the time to write one. One of the many nice things about staying at Pelican Bluff is the birds. It is on a large piece of undeveloped property with a couple of small ponds. Because there is no traffic all kinds of birds fly in for a drink or feed off the grassy area. You can sit on the deck and watch them come and go. The pink Roseate Spoonbills are my favorite. I actually think they look like flamingos with a spoon-like bill. The Houston Audubon Society is up the road a few miles so if you are a bird watcher this is the house for you. And of course the fishing and beach combing are great too!

Perfect Family Vacation Get Away

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to take our 5 year old Autistic son (and his 3 year old little brother) to the beach/ocean, and this wonderful home couldn't have been any more perfect for our family. The home itself was lovely, clean, and had everything we could possibly need for our 5 day stay.

But it was the seclusion of the beach - we didn't see a single person or car on the beach the first two days we were there - that made it ideal for our son who doesn't tolerate crowds very well.

Even though we arrived less than 2 weeks after Hurricane Harvey, you couldn't tell there had been a storm at all.

Thank you, Margene for sharing your lovely home with us and for making sure our boys' first trip the beach was such an amazing experience for them. We'll definitely be back again.
