Lodge/B&B On 5 Treed Acres With Stunning Lake & Mountain Views
About Maggie Kavanagh
Gord & Maggie are avid outdoor enthusiasts who like to spend their free time in nature - hiking and cycling in the summer, snowshoeing and skiing in the winter. While vacationing in the Kootenay’s during the period from 2005-2008, they recognized the incredible recreational opportunities in the area and decided it might be a great place to settle down. Coming from hectic lives, working in corporate Calgary, nature had become the place they escaped to, so they could merely recharge their batteries. When they purchased Tara Shanti however, they envisioned the potential to shift away from survival to being present in the natural environment, living in a small community and making nature a bigger part of their lives once again. Now, after renovations, they want to share the comfort of Tara Shanti and the natural beauty surrounding it, with their guests.

Why Maggie Kavanagh chose Walkers
When purchasing the property it was recognized right away that major renovations would be required, and the decision was made, from the outset to use environmentally sustainable products or recycled materials whenever possible. This can be seen even as you approach the property – the roof, which looks like naturally weathered cedar shakes is actually made from 95% recycled materials. This theme runs throughout the lodge, including a large wrap-around deck surfaced with soft recycled rubber tiles. The view from that deck, and many of the rooms at Tara Shanti as well, is truly world class. Looking up Coffee Creek to Kokanee Glacier illuminated by the morning sun is virtually breath taking; in fact many find themselves actually mesmerized by this vista when taking it all in for the first time.
What makes this Bed And Breakfast unique
A quick look on Google Maps shows that there are many established parks or wilderness areas in virtually every direction out from Tara Shanti. This represents a wide range of outdoor recreational activities. This combined with nearby hot springs at Ainsworth, world class golf at Kokanee Springs, artisans in Crawford Bay and nearby wineries in Creston make for a great get away; whether that's for weeks or just a few days.
