175+ Acre Mountain Valley Retreat

Bedrooms 6
Space 3,500 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

6 bedrooms, 3 bath horse ranch

Escape from the city to this historic mountain ranch located in Lockwood Valley just 90 minutes from Los Angeles. This unique newly-rehabbed horse farm features 175+ acres adjoining the Los Padres National Forest. The Ranch is located within easy driving distance from Los Angeles but you feel like you are in another world. Situated at 5,200 feet in the beautiful Southern California mountains, no matter what time of year you book your visit, you will enjoy each of the seasons.

Perfect for the intimate getaway or large family gatherings, the main house features 3,500 square feet of newly rehabbed living space including 6 bedrooms, 3 baths, fully-remodeled chef’s gourmet kitchen, kitchen dining, formal dining, 5 fireplaces, huge living room with TV area and fireplace seating, front veranda porch, back patio overlooking lake, outdoor seating with patio dining and casual picnic tables. The property also includes lake, horse paddocks, horse barn, acres of walking and riding trails, picnic areas, creeks, riverbeds, outdoor games, vegetable garden, berry bushes, fruit orchards and more.

If you enjoy the feeling of remote open space, this is the property you will enjoy visiting! Within 15-minute driving distance to Frazier Park which includes neighborhood restaurants (burgers, pizza, Mexican, Chinese and vegetarian Indian cuisine), well-stocked local grocery store (including meat market) and local businesses. One-hour drive to Bakersfield or Santa Clarita.

At this mountain-top retreat you will experience all the seasons. Evenings are cool year-round so wear plenty of layers. Wintertime weather can be as low as 10 degrees so winter wear is a must during the snowy season. Summertime weather can get upwards of 105 degrees, so bring a hat if you plan on hiking or walking. There is usually a breeze so the shaded areas are comfortable.

This is a ranch… so it is dusty. This valley is known for its wildlife including bobcats, mountain lions, bears, jack rabbits, cottontails, lizards, horny toads, gopher snakes (the good kind), garter snakes (the good kind) and rattlesnakes (the kind we shoot), crawly insects including big (stink bugs) and small (ants).

Cellphone service is only available in limited areas of the ranch. The main house is set up with full kitchen including dishware, glassware, pots and pans and utensils, and bath and bed linens. You will only need to bring your suitcase and your personal items. The kitchen pantry is stocked with basics only so you will need to bring all your food and ingredients or drive into town for your meals.

The closest airports are Burbank and Bakersfield. During snowy and icy weather, chains are required on Lockwood Valley Road. If you are unable to navigate the snowy conditions, the ranch truck can pick you up in Frazier Park. We are surrounded by 3 creeks, so during flash floods, the road is sometimes closed.

Our hope for you is that your stay at Lockwood’s Ranch is one of rest and quiet. If you can’t unplug, the main house has satellite internet, wifi and DirectTV satellite.

This setting beckons you to pull up a lounge chair or slip into the hammock with that novel that you had hoped to someday read. Hikers will enjoy the easy walking trails on the property or can venture into the national forest for more hiking enjoyment. Bring your camera! There are loads of photo opportunities year-round including beautiful sunrises, spectacular sunsets, wildflowers, wildlife, pines, creeks and dry riverbeds and farm animals.

[Please note that there are ranch employees here 24/7. We always take the utmost care in keeping our ranch noise to a minimum when guests are in residence and we honor your privacy at the main house, but keep in mind that we do care for all the ranch animals so you will hear ranch vehicles driving around the ranch at various times during the day.]

About Tiffany Windsor

I am a Weekend Farmgirl! I work in LA during the week and spend my weekends at home on the ranch. I love mucking out the horse stalls, driving the tractor, pulling weeds (lots of them), tending to the garden, meditating by the lake, driving the 4-WD around the property and welcoming you into our home.

Tiffany Windsor purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Tiffany Windsor chose Frazier Park

This property is where a miner by the name of Lockwood built his one-room cabin - hence the name Lockwood Valley! This area is filled with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains including Frazier Mountain, Mt. Pinos and San Guillermo Mountain. If you're a history buff, you will love to walk the same paths as the hunters and trappers and gold miners before you.

What makes this cabin unique

Tucked against the Los Padres National Forest, Lockwood's Ranch gives you a unique place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors while only 90-minutes from Los Angeles. You will enjoy all the seasons and the fresh air of this mountain valley retreat whether relaxing on the hammock on the lake view patio, hiking to the San Guillermo Creek or rock hounding in the riverbed, listening to the wind blowing through the Ponderosa pines, photographing nature or visiting the ranch animals. Look up at the nighttime skies filled with a billion stars while you roast your S'mores by the campfire.

Rustic yet Mordern

Family of three generations had a fantastic time getting away from city to a location that feels totally remote yet is just 90 minutes away from the LA. The team of ranch workers were fantastic, showing us all the animals and letting the kids feed the animals. House has original bones but has been updated with modern features that you need including WiFi and killer kitchen. Would definately go again to Lockwood Ranch.

Our ranch animals LOVED all the special attention and loving that they received during this visit. Would definitely be happy to host this family anytime!

Perfect Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Fourteen members of our family met at Lockwood's Ranch for a wonderful Thanksgiving. We stayed for three nights, and loved every minute of it. The cook's kitchen was perfect for preparing meals with several helpers. Three refrigerators made storing foods easy, and four ovens, for turkey, ham, and all the extras worked out perfectly. Tiffany is a gracious host, making all of us feel welcome, and alway available when we had questions. She showed anyone interested, all the animals, the different areas of the ranch, and shared the fascinating history of the Ranch and the local area. We hiked, and drove to nearby off road trails in the forest in our Jeep, but mostly just relaxed in the spacious house. The younger members of the family enjoyed the big screen TV. Having excellent WiFi reception was an added convenience. In warmer weather, sitting out on the patio at night and seeing the night sky, after bar-b-cueing would be lovely.

Thank you Tiffany, you have a beautiful ranch.

Owner's Response: We are so delighted that Peter & Charlotte selected our ranch for their Thanksgiving family get-together. All the guests were delightful and gracious. It's always a pleasure to watch our guests get out and about and enjoy hiking around the property. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing some horse time with the younger members of the group as we chatted while feeding carrots to the horses. I was so very grateful that they left the house in immaculate condition. Looking forward to welcoming this group back in the future!
