Ideal for those who enjoy private space as much as together time. Both are here
About Liz Smith
Visiting the Cape for the first time as a middle schooler, I knew I wanted to live here someday. The beaches, the air, the relaxed life style appealed in ways city living didn't. Eastham became my home town in 1979 and although I've moved 7 different times since then, it's always been to a property in Eastham. "The Gov" was purchased with the idea that once the renovation project was complete, we'd enjoy the results together. However, living on the Cape wasn't as important to my husband as it was to that dream ended. However, owning "The Gov" then became an adventure. How would it be possible to keep the house by myself? After several years of renting portions; to J-1 students (still friends with three delightful Bulgarian women), to an art student from South Carolina and to a psychotherpist who wanted desperately to move to the Cape, I relinquished living in the house and rented it year round. This year, in November, I will move back to enjoy this wonderful property. Renting it during the summer months will make it financially possible and I'm sure all vacationers will concur; this is a very special house. Recently retired, I look forward to scheduling your vacation in this unique house. Stay for a week or and relaxation is the goal.

Why Liz Smith chose Eastham
Most Cape Cod houses are the same. Two bedrooms down - two bedrooms up. But "The Gov" is different and that is what makes it so special. It has a very contemporary open floor plan that invites good times both inside and outside. Yet, it is decorated with unique antiques that give it a very special asthetic appeal. The half acre is secluded from the main roads and provides beautiful views of the lawn, shrubbery and natural habitat. Don't be surprised to see a deer, or a fox or a coyote crossing the yard. This is normal and fun to see and enjoy. Furnished with a combination of traditional and antique furniture, the living room's sectional sofa and chairs are perfect for conversation and or movie viewing on the flatscreen television via the DVD. The round oak dining table is set up for four but can seat 8 by adding the extra leaves that are stored in the closet. Linens, stored in the antique buffet, can make a casual or more formal table. The two master bedrooms - one on the first floor with a king size bed and one on the second floor with a king size bed and a twin daybed, make this property very unusual. You'll have all the privacy you can imagine but can also enjoy together time for meals. When you walk onto the front porch, comfortable Adirondack chairs welcome you. The front door opens into an entry way that boosts a comfortable cushioned bench for shoe removal (barefeet love the beautiful pine floors and plush area carpets). The "great room" is furnished with a comfortable sectional (queen bed pull out) and chairs where gathering for conversation, cocktails or even meals is possible. The round dining table awaits the meals you'll prepare. Or the "togo" you'll bring home to enjoy!!
What makes this House unique
Having privacy with two master bedrooms and bathrooms makes this property different from all others. There is plenty of shared space, in the open floor plan with the great room, as well. As stated above - the floor plan in this house sets it apart from all of the others. It's great for a family vacation as well as one for couples who enjoy traveling together but would LOVE to have separate spaces as well. The location of The Gov is perfect. You can bike from the house to the bike trail and then go to Orleans (or further south) or to Wellfleet. What fun!! This IS Cape Cod at its very best! Beaches are a half mile to a mile and a half from the house and driving there on back roads will help you avoid busy Route 6.

The house is located conventiently to all of the beaches in Eastham. You can actually bike, on the bike path, to Herringbrook Pond or First Encounter Beach. The more enthustiatic biker can even go to Coast Guard or Nauset Light Beach!
The specialness of this location is that it is central to all attractions yet VERY private. You won't know that another house is nearby!!
For nature lovers, you'll enjoy seeing many varieties of birds as you relax in one of the chaise lounges on the fabulous wrap around deck. Enjoy your morning coffee and watch them flit from tree to tree. You might even see a deer run across the yard!
The National Seashore Visitor's Center is worth a visit. In addition to films about how the Cape was formed, there are scheduled activities that attract both locals and visitors alike.
The bike path, from the Center to Coast Guard beach, is a favorite. Enjoy it on foot or bike.
Eastham is just 3 miles wide, from bayside to oceanside. The beaches are gorgeous and a day spent there, walking the flats on the bayside at low tide or riding the waves at Coast Guard or Nauset Light Beach are sure to be fun filled ones.
