Welcome to Cooper's Cottage at beautiful Barren River Lake, Kentucky. This beautiful cottage is a single family residence with a second-story breakfast nook and deck. Our lakehouse cottage offers breathtaking views of the water, a location merely two miles from Bailey's Point campground, dock, and recreation area; as well as being convenient to Barren River State Park, gas stations, and the best fried catfish in the south.

The cottage is a three bedroom, two bath home, and a full kitchen including a microwave, dishes, pots, and pans. Everything to make your vacation easy and economical. The house sports two queen-size beds, and a full bed, as well as a breakfast nook that can be used for a sleeping area. The house is approximately 1600 square feet so it provides plenty of room for a family or couples looking to share a vacation rental. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, microwave, stove, and a refrigerator.

We request a minimum of a two night stay and a three night stay on holiday weekends. If you book six nights, you will get the seventh night free. We require a 25% deposit on all bookings and have a 15 day cancellation policy. Minimum rental age of 25. No Pets, No Smoking, No Illegal Substances Allowed.

Close to hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, wild-life viewing, swimming, water-skiing, knee-boarding, wake-boarding, jet-skiing, tubing, and boating. Bailey's Point a short two mile drive also hosts camping, has children's playgrounds, concessions, and sponsors movies nights during the summer season.

In addition, the lakehouse is merely 30 minutes from Bowling Green, Kentucky home of the National Corvette Museum and Plant. We are less than an hour from Kentucky Down Under and Mammoth Cave National Park, which offers horseback riding, spelunking, and various other sightseeing activities.

The lakehouse is also close to Harper's Restaurant - offering what we think is the BEST fried catfish in the south, a convenient store, gas stations, and grocery store, and we are happy to provide directions to any of these activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a beautiful view! It was a little chilly to be out on the deck, so we moved the kitchen table in front of deck doors to enjoy the view. This was a perfect spot for us - close to family, room for all of us to be comfortable. Very clean! We will definitely return!

Nice peaceful convenient location with great fishing

Very spacious and great area. Several restaurants within 20 minutes and very close to a nice state park called Bailey's Point. Fishing was excellent and only a 10 minute drive around the corner from the cottage. Very nice and great value.

Kentucky vacation

Overall stay was great and nice area! Only issue is there were too many branches and trees covering the view to the beautiful lake and scenery.

This house is interesting. Some things are good and others are in need of improvement. The best thing is that it was easy to work with the owners. The bedrooms were good. The living room was nice. The kitchen was good after we got some cooking spray. I suppose that was our fault but I thought there would already be some. There was some at the other houses we have stayed at. The view of the lake was nice. I loved looking at the stars. There are no hand towels. The bathtub/ showers are very slick. All of this could be fixed with $100 and 1 hour. All in all, we had fun.

Owner's Response: We thank you for your feedback. We view each review as an opportunity to improve our customer experience at Cooper’s Cottage. We do provide hand towels in each bathroom and in the kitchen, however, we do typically roll them and leave them in the baskets of towels, washcloths, etc. in each of those rooms. Is it possible you may have missed them because of this location? While we do try to provide all necessary kitchen implements like a blender, pots and pans, cookie sheets, a toaster oven, microwave, toaster, fry daddy, outdoor grill, multiple tea / lemonade pitchers, glasses, plates, bowls, etc for 8, you are correct, we do not supply cooking spray or other consumable items. While this can be a source of frustration for some guests, it is also something that many guests do not want to use if others have used it. In short, we view all feedback as an opportunity to improve and grow our cottage. We hope potential guests will take the time to read the many other reviews we have with 4 and 5 stars, and realize that our goal is to have satisfied guests who enjoy their stay and want to return every year!

Positives: Booking and paying for the rental home was easy. It was easy to contact the owner prior to staying. Nice having a washer and dryer.

Negatives: Having our kids in the rental property posed a lot of issues. Safety Issues: Exposed outlets-bathroom, broken Coffee table with protruding hinges, broken thresholds on flooring creating trip hazards, vent cover for furnace not secured down to floor causing trip hazard, overall poor workmanship on repairs to home. Cleanliness: old Food throughout the furniture covers, floors not swept throughout home, Old chips/food debris in bowl on top of frig., Some drinking glasses had old food residue on them, frig inside shelf broken, One bedroom sheets looked as if they were not washed. An advertising feature in the paperwork of home was to open windows to get a fresh breeze through house - all the windows had dozens of dead lady bugs on window sills and when we opened the window, they blew throughout the house - very disgusting. Broken screens on windows, broken tiles in bathroom as well as missing grout and terrible workmanship on home repairs. Oven had old food spilled and baked on the bottom of oven. There is no access to Lake from Cottage - cottage is on steep cliff down to water, that was not explained in the description. The closest small town is a 20 minute drive (Very remote location). In general - I would never rent this home again nor would I recommend it to anyone for rent. To make this home an acceptable rental property on VRBO, many "Professional" repairs should be done to get things up to code and a more professional cleaning crew should deep clean the home. This is the 2nd time we have rented a home through VRBO - the first home was exceptional, but for this home the basic standard of cleanliness/safety (that a renter should expect) was not met.

Owner's Response: We thank you for the detailed feedback on your stay, and are truly sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your stay. The home was built in the 50’s and we have routinely replaced, and renovated various aspects of it over the 10 years we have been in business. This is part of our effort to offer an improved customer experience each and every year, and part of the reason we believe we have such a large percentage of return rentals every year. We have corrected many of the issues you mentioned, and appreciate your feedback and its help in assessing and addressing these things for future guests. In short, we view all feedback as an opportunity to improve and grow our cottage. In response to this feedback, we are going to increase the “surprise” inspections that we normally do as a routine procedure to make sure that our cleaning staff is hitting all the nooks and crannies. We have added a few less used areas, like the top of the refrigerator, to our list of items to clean, and have reviewed the details of our cleaning schedule with her. We hope potential guests will take the time to read the many other reviews we have with 4 and 5 stars, and realize that our goal is to have satisfied guests who enjoy their stay and want to return every year!

Owner's Response: Thanks Jim! We appreciate the kind words! Our favorite is the view from the uppermost back deck. You can see quite a distance and command a great view of the lake and all its activities. I love sipping coffee and watching the wildlife before the rest of our family wakes up in the mornings!
