Cozy cabin located in friendly neighborhood yet very secluded. Situated on 4+ acres joining directly with the George Washington National Forest. Because of the rural location, there is no cell service. We do have WiFi which you can use for phone service. Amazon prime videos and Netflix are also available to view on a 50 inch tv in the living area. There is a telephone in the bedroom and a large collection of dvds for your use. The inside has two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bath with shower and a loft. There is also a large screened in porch and a large deck on the front. Sit back relax, and listen to the birds or view the stars. Outside is woods as far as the eye can see. No other visible dwellings from the cabin in the summer when the trees are full of leaves. In the fall you might see another vacant cabin. We provide both a propane and charcoal grill for your use. There is also a useable outhouse. We are located close to Trout Pond State Park where you can hike, swim, fish or use the playground. Because of the location, there is plenty of wildlife in the area, You may see, deer, bear, fox, coyotes, raccoons or (yuck) snakes! On occasion, a mouse might get inside. We do our best to keep them out but it is one of the hazards of being in the woods. We do have an exterminator in every other month to keep pests out of and away from the cabin.

About Rene Halterman
Hi! I'm Rene' and my husband Russell and I live in Mathias WV not far from the property. We purchased this cabin so we would have a peaceful place to get away and as a hunting area for my husband. We found we didn't get to use the cabin as much as we had hoped so we decided to let others enjoy it. We both work in manufacturing in Harrisonburg. We have between us, 4 adult children and 16 grandchildren. We enjoy spending time with our family and cruising.
Rene Halterman purchased this Cabin in 2015

Nice cozy cabin!
We had an enjoyable time relaxing, hiking, & fishing! Nice views! The cabin had all your essentials! Very clean! We would love to come back!
Thanks so much for staying at our cabin! You and your family are welcome back anytime!
nice and quiet
nice little cabin. quiet. never saw the neighbors. was good to get my kids out in a remote location.
Quiet little cabin in the heart of the forest
We just returned from our stay at this nice little cabin in the woods. It is a small cabin with 2 bedrooms and 1 loft, 1 bathroom and a small kitchen/living room. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare a meal, including some salt, pepper and a few spices, along with coffee. There was bottled water in the fridge upon our arrival, which was a nice touch.
It is as advertised, quiet, and adjacent to the George Washington National Forest. Although the description is technically accurate, you can't SEE other dwellings from the cabin, there are many other dwellings in the area, as this property is part of the Trout Pond Property Owners Association. On one of our morning walks, we counted 14 other cabins on the short stretch of road. This appears to be a rural development with properties every 2 - 5 acres. With that said, it is VERY quiet and peaceful.
The description also mentions mice on "occasion". During both nights we heard mouse activity in the kitchen. In the mornings, we awoke to find many mouse dropping all over the counters and stove top. We've stayed at other cabins such as this, in remote forest locations, and never experienced this before. While this didn't necessarily bother us, we wanted to make others aware of it.
Overall, we had a nice, relaxing time and enjoyed our stay. If you stay here, I encourage you to visit the Trout Pond Recreation Area.
This is a great out-of-the-way cabin. Everything was set up nicely for our stay.
Several lakes close by for great fishing! Also a beach area and playground at Trout Pond Park less than two miles away!
