The key to catching the northern lights is to wait patiently in a cosy spot, far away from city-lights and busy highways. Our secluded and accessible winter paradise between Seljalandsfoss and Þórsmörk is just the right place, the surrounding hills often provide clear skies and light pollution is minimal.
Explore the south coast by day and gaze at the northern lights by night.
We do recommend that you have a 4x4 car especially in the winter time. In the summer time it is not necessary but convenient as there is a gravel road to get to the cabin.
Optimal for families and couples, the cottage is a private and peaceful escape from daily rush. It is a place to recharge your batteries between daily adventures on the South coast of Iceland.
The cottage comes with made-up beds, towels and body-wash.
We recommend staying for a few nights to maximise your chances to see the northern lights. Success lies in waiting patiently rather than wasting precious time driving between locations. This way you will also have more time to explore the wonders of the south coast by day.
Built in 1980, the fully functional, warm and comfortable house has faced the test of time which in our eyes gives it a certain rustic charm. The rooms are quite small but the spacious common area, large private yard and amazing mountain views make up for the compact and cozy rooms.
Cooking your own meals at the cottages is an excellent way for you to to stay on budget. In the kitchen you have access to a stove, kettle, toaster, coffeemaker and a microwave oven. It is fully equipped with pots and pans, utensils, dishware, cups and utensils. Note - there is no baking oven in the house.
