Why Marie and Lorenzo chose Colle di Compito

The truth is that after 4 months of looking and only 5 days prior to our departure before returning home, we walked through the gates on a wet and wild winter's day and we knew that this was it! Confirmation did not take long. Two steps into the 100 square meter living room and upon seeing the majestic like sculptures of the stone milling wheels with their cogs that towered to the 5 meter ceiling; the search was over!”

What makes this villa unique

This is the chance to stay in a traditional historic property dating back to the 14th century. The property is ideally located in a peaceful village but yet offer the perfect opportunity to visit the major sites of Tuscany, such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence

Wonderful holiday in this beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband, daughter and grandchildren in September last year. As soon as we arrived and saw Roocello we were delighted. The villa is beautiful full of interesting very Tuscan features and the garden is delightful. Everthing was spotlessly clean and the furnishings are comfortable and cosy. Roocello is a great base for exploring this part of Tuscany, Lucca is just half an hour away where we loved cycling around the ancient walls and we drove to Florence in around an hour and had a wonderful time there. The village is just a five minute walk where we could shop and get our cappucinos and ice creams. We found a couple of lovely restaurants just five minutes drive away. When we returned to the villa from our adventures each day it was great to relax in the gorgeous garden in the shade of the terrace and cool off in the pool - the children particularly loved playing in the water every day. Marie and Lorenzo are the managers just 15 minutes away in Vicopisano and they were incredibly helpful and kind and invited us to join them in their lovely Medieval village for aperitivos - Marie suggested we bring some empty wine bottles - we went to her local enoteka and filled them up with Prosecco for just under 3 euros a bottle which was great fun! As a family, Roocello provided us with the perfect home from home in this stunning part of Tuscany and would happily recommend Roocello to anyone who is looking for an idyllic and peaceful place to stay with family or group of friends. We went home with the best memories so happy we chose Roocello and dream of our return.

Beautiful villa in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two weeks in this villa. The villa is very well equipped and spacious, making it ideal for a large group or family to stay in. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, Marie and Lorenzo, who provided information about the local area and were happy to help if we had any queries. The village is lovely and has a few shops where you can get local product and there is a supermarket less than 10 minutes drive away. The residents in the village were very friendly and welcoming, one lovely neighbour even brought us home grown tomatoes and wine!

Thoroughly recommend the olive grove in Vicopisano, where you can buy oil and wine that they grow and produce on site and they'll even show you how the oil is processed. We ate at the local restaurant where both the food and the service was excellent.

We would definitely recommend this villa and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Owner's Response: Dear Gail Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about Roocello. It is so nice to hear that our guests have enjoyed the property during both in the Spring and at Christmas time. We have to agree that Roocello is ideally located to visit the main sites of Tuscany in addition to being just a short distance from the beautiful city of Lucca. Thank you for recommending the villa to your friends and we hope that you will return to Roocello in the not too distance future. Warmest wishes Marie and Lorenzo (Property managers)

Villa mit viel Charme

  • 5 of 5

LUCCA

Lucca has preserved its characteristics since Roman times with the city still surrounded by the well-preserved 16 th century ramparts that once served to defend it. The ancient ramparts now serve as a recreational area for its citizens and visitors who walk or cycle around them.

The inner city is closed to most traffic, offering the visitor the chance to enjoy the city both by foot or by bicycle. The city has many fine churches, including its grand Romanesque cathedral. You can wander the picturesque narrow, winding streets and alleys lined with alluring shops, and visit the Piazza del Anfiteatro, once the site of a Roman amphitheatre which continues to preserve its ancient form.

Lucca has a museum in the house where Giacomo Puccini was born, and holds an annual opera festival in June as one of several arts events. There is a well-known antiques market in Lucca on the third weekend of each month.

PLACES NEARBY

Nearby there are interesting historic villas, the foothills of the Apuan Alps, the seaside beach resorts of Viareggio and Forte di Marmi.

The region has a well-developed transportation system enabling longer day trips to be easily made from the Lucca area to the Cinque Terre, to Carrara where Michelangelo quarried the marble for his statues and where sculptors still carry out their art, and to Florence and Siena. The area is renowned for its fine olive oil, its wines and its many gastronomic specialties.

In addition there are many other local villages nestled on the slopes of the Monte Pisano worth exploring. In less than 15 minutes you can reach the village of Buti famed for summer long festivals and popular restaurants. In just 20 minutes you can reach the charismatic Medieval town of Vicopisano which is home to a magnificent fortress designed by the Renaissance master Brunelleschi.

For those who like to hike and bike the surrounding trails of the Monte Pisano offer the perfect opportunity to engage in such activities.
