About Chris Haunold
My wife and I have lived in Idaho since 1977. We enjoy horseback riding, skiing, mountain biking, hiking , fishing and just relaxing with a glass of wine and watching the sunset. The photo of us is from a ride in August on Soldier Creek across from the cabin.
Chris Haunold purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Chris Haunold chose Fairfield
We bought this cabin because we wanted a getaway from the city hustle with close access to everything we loved doing and a relaxed slower pace. The cabin is 2 miles from Soldier Mountain Ski area and being a skier and snowboarder I always wanted to be close to a ski area. We love the weather and being close to skiing , hiking and riding trails and rolling hills and mountains . We used to go to the Sun Vally area but decided we wanted a less crowded ,slower paced getaway ,so we choose Fairfield and the Soldier Creek area because it has every thing we love, with out the crowd's and a great community with wonderful people. There are great restaurants, groceries and ever thing you need, and you can see the stars!
What makes this Cabin unique
We can do everything we like to do, from horseback riding to snowshoeing and Cross-country skiing and cycling from the steps of the cabin. It is off the beaten path and very quiet with no light pollution .You can still see the stars and Milky Way at night . We purposely do not have a phone or internet so when we are at our cabin we could truly relax, slow down and not get dragged back into day to day hassles. The wrap around deck is where we spend most of our time in the summer and you can hike go for horseback rides and cross country ski right off the property.

cabin was lovely Western retreat
Cabin was just like pictures, but there is a cabin next to it. Had great view across and up the valley from the front and side porches - couldn't see the road. Lots of guidebooks in the cabin to identify birds from the preserve that flew into nearby trees, wildflowers in the mountains, and other places to go in Idaho. Easy access to Sawtooths up the best dirt road I have driven in years. Water running in Soldier Creek. Only 2 restaurants in town, but the Brewery served the best variety of hot sandwiches and had real salads. Lovely animal, trees, and mountains cabin wall decorations - not cutesy.
Awesome cabin in a great location.
My wife & I really enjoyed our 4 night stay at this cabin! A bit hot when we arrived, and even though we opened all the windows after sunset, did not cool off until about 2:00 in the morning. Kept it closed up with all the blinds pulled down each day after that. Stayed much cooler. We grilled rainbow trout that we caught at nearby Big Smoky Creek Sat & Sun nights. Very tasty! Thanks for use of charcoal grill, Chris. We also loved sitting comfortably on the deck each evening watching meteor showers. Perfect location for this event that we were fortunate to see! As was mentioned in another review, a microwave would really be a nice addition. Overall, condition of cabin was very clean and communication with owner was exceptional. We plan on returning again some day.
Glad you had a great stay and you are obviously a better fisherman then I am! I have plans to add a microwave and a few other amenities this fall when I can get a contractor scheduled. With the recent trend of much hotter summers I will have Michelle close the blinds and leave the window's open between guest stays instead of closing everything up. The cabin sits at 5,400 feet so it usually cools off quickly when the sun goes down, but keeping blinds closed and windows open between guest should help a bunch. Thanks so much for the feed back! Chris
Liked it but would not go this time of year way to hot.
We had a good time for the most part. Instructions getting there was a little vague. Had a hard time finding. Really nice place just too hot.
The cabin is amazing with nice trails and hot springs nearby. It was clean and like expected. The communication with the owners was ok. I really recommand this place.
There were a few minor things that we would suggest adding to the cabin, but overall we loved it!
My wife and I just spent a great weekend at this cabin with our puppy. We loved the area. The cabin itself was just right for us. Loved the heated floors in the bathrooms and the large soaking tub! The cabin also stayed really nice and cool the whole time we were there. No issues with water, power, or anything. A few things we would suggest are adding steak knives, nonstick cooking spray, and perhaps mowing or weed wacking more of the grass around the lot. Just minor things. Also, if you take a pet here, you may want to keep an eye on them when they are outside. Our little pup loved exploring, but he got into several bones, dead birds, etc.
Thanks for the feed back. I will buy some steak knives for the cabin and restock cooking spray. I apologize for the weeds, normally everything gets cleaned up as soon as it stops growing, but my trimmer broke while I was working on clean up and I just got it back from the repair shop. Everything will be trimmed up this week. Glad you enjoyed every thing else about your stay . Chris
Lovely Country Cabin
We loved our stay at this cabin. The views are amazing. It rained most of our stay but the view of the hawks, deer, and sandhill cranes was perfect! The fireplace wouldn't kick on when we arrived but Chris and Michelle made sure that it was up and running by a technician even on a Saturday. We would love to stay here again.
The cabin is 8 miles from Fairfield which has a gas station, grocery store, and bank as well as several restaurants. Soldier Creek road is paved.

Check in is anytime after 3:30pm and check out is by 12 noon. Soldier Creek road is plowed by the county. We have the drive plowed as soon as possible after snow storms but some times it will depend on when the plow driver can make it, we make every effort to keep it cleared. The cabin sits about 200 yards from the road and four wheel drive with snow tires or good all season tires is recommended in winter and may be necessary after a storm. The drive has a turn around which is big enough for trailers and we try and plow it wide enough for trailers in winter.
