About the property

Great Place to Relax. This Historical Building Takes you Away to Days Gone By

This is the upstairs to a 1920 Beach Cottage and separated like a Condo. It overseas the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and offers a great beach to swim in or walk on. The waves are gentle most the time, not choppy like Va Beach. The sandy shallow bottom is great for all ages. The view is incredible and you're only a few steps from the beach. There is a full kitchen and dining area with unique antiques throughout. The living room offers a place to watch TV or just read. There is a Queen Bed in one Bedroom and a double in the other. This is a place to relax. The fishing is also good. You can walk to the OceanView Pier or the Famous Thirsty Camel Restaurant.

About Randy Luten

The owner bought the house and started a long remodeling effort to ensure the house stayed in its original condition. Except for adding central air and heat, not much has changed. With the breeze from the ocean take advantage of opening the windows as few if any bugs are able to fly in the breeze. This house has Character and Style. The owner spends a lot of time there in the lower unit and is about as Jimmy Buffet as they come.

Why Randy Luten chose Willoughby Spit

Built in 1920 for a Sea Captain, this is a very unique and historic house with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Thought to be the best location on Willoughby Spit.

A Little Slice Of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

This second floor of a beachfront cottage does not disappoint.

The pictures do not do justice to this beautiful space. The kitchen dining area is big enough for 2 people to cook together comfortably with plenty of counter space. The dining table easily sits 5 chairs with room around it for kids to play on the floor. The beds are super comfy. The living room only needs a pull out couch as this space could suit 6 people no problem. The outside deck was where we spent most of our time when not on the beach which was about 15 steps away. It is a locals beach so no fighting for a beach spot. the most people I counted on it on a sunny Sunday was 13!.

I would love to own this apt! it is spotless and the owner Randy Luten is kind and non-intrusive. If you are like me and work hard for your vacation money be assured that this property will be money well spent!

Subpar at best....

  • 2 of 5

The first impression wasn't good at all because we got there an hour late and we're told to come because the house still wasn't cleaned.

We immediately smelled a horrific odor because of the cleaning solution they used. The kitchen was very nice however, the house was very rundown and needed several repairs. We were left with only 1 trash can and expected to take our own trash out. I hope your not a sports fan because they do not have ESPN or any sports network.

Owner's Response: We've had our best Summer ever because we've had the best guests ever. However, I will have to update the guest book. There are 3 very large garbage cans on the outside of the house and a very large recycle can, for guests who wish to take their garbage outside once the inside one is full. There's a smart TV with 240 Channels including ESPN. Cleaning lady may have been behind schedule, but usually it's the other way around where we are letting people in early so their groceries can be put in the fridge or their children can play on the beach or both. The house is not in need of repair, but it was built in 1920, which most couples consider romantic. In fact we've gone to considerable expense to make it Historically appropriate. (Except for the Smart TV) :)

Return visit is definitely in order!

  • 5 of 5

Being first time renters we soon discussed we were well under packed. No beach chairs, umbrella, or water toys. That's when Randy came to the rescue and offered us his things. He was awesome! We felt at home immediately. The outdoor shower was a welcome bonus. You could spend time in the water then come up and rinse off. Very nice! To contradict one of the posts here, the a/c worked perfectly, so much so that we had to turn it down to avoid frostbite. We are definitely planning to return next year. We highly recommend this property to anyone looking to spend some quality quiet time in a the charm of a vintage home. A+++++

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation here! The large porch is perfect for morning cup of coffee and evening glass of wine. Steps to the ocean and large beach that we had almost to ourselves. We loved watching various ships go by and also saw a pod of dolphins. Plenty of room inside for our family of four. Comfortable beds and nice room darkening drapes. It was in the nineties during our trip and a/c kept it cool inside. Randy was friendly and accommodating. Great place!
