About Sam Carlson
I'm a retired World Bank executive, reincarnated as a solar electricity developer in Vermont.
Sam Carlson purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Sam Carlson chose Las Terrenas
We lived in the Dominican Republic for 4 years while with the World Bank, and absolutely fell in love with Playa Bonita. It has great waves, quiet waters around the point, few people, and we made this our weekend getaway from Santo Domingo.
1) GENERAL INFO: Our villa manager is CARIBSERVICE, specifically MIRTHA FARFAN Agencia de servicios en República Dominicana Residencial Los Nomadas - Playa Cosón Las Terrenas (Samaná) www.caribservice.net Cel. (1) 829 806 9175 Email: email@example.com) Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Mirtha is responsible for all information, housekeeping, maintenance, airport pick-up/drop-off (if you need it), and general information on services and outings available in the area. You should also call her if you need help giving instructions to the housekeeper or if there is an emergency. She speaks Spanish, and understands French and English (for the most part!). Maintenance: If you have any maintenance questions or requests (light bulbs, toilet paper, how to use the DVD, lost keys, etc.), please ask the housekeeper to contact Mirtha to address them. 2) SWIMMING POOL: You are welcome to use the swimming pools in the hotel complex towards the beach, SO LONG AS YOU ORDER A DRINK FROM THE BAR OR SOME FOOD FROM THE RESTAURANT, and in the apartment complex opposite the entrance of our driveway. Our villa comes with beach towels under each of the sinks. Please be sure to return them to our villa. On the beach there are shops that rent surf boards, boogie boards, paddle boards, etc.and provide lessons (take a right on the beach and walk about 300 yards). IT IS PROHIBITED TO BRING ALCOHOLIC DRINKS OR GLASS BOTTLES OF ANY KIND TO THE POOL. 3) WIFI/INTERNET: WIFI IS AVAILABLE for all our guests; CaribService should provide it to you upon arrival. PASSWORD is on the bottom of the ORANGE router. 4) HOUSEKEEPING:. Please clean off your plates in the evenings into the trash at the far back corner of the kitchen (under the lid on the counter) to avoid ants. 5) WATER: The entire house has filtered water, including the showers, but we encourage you to use the water provided in the pitchers in the bathrooms for drinking, as well as the large filtered water bottle in the kitchen. This will be replaced when needed by our housekeeper. All faucets have the hot water on the left, and cold on the right. The hot water takes a while to warm up. 6) BEACHES: The biggest waves are right in front of the hotel and farther down to the right where you will often see a surfing class in the afternoons. The waves are usually safe, with sandy bottoms and body-surfable. The calmest waters are farther to the right as you face the beach. If you go to the end of this beach, you will end up at a beautiful little creek, where a nice guy sells fish to eat on the beach. If you go farther around the first point you will find the fishing boat beach. Take the forest trail at the end of that beach, and you will land on the ‘secret beach’ where there is often nice snorkeling and lots of privacy. By contrast, if you turn left in front of the hotel, you can walk to the point past several nice restaurants. Another beautiful set of beaches is around that far point…Playa Coson…gorgeous especially at sunset. A walk along Coson will take you all morning, but it’s a great way to discover the area. Beach towels are provided for you under each sink. Please keep track of them ☺. 7) MOSQUITOES: They come mostly in the evenings, but we always eat outside for dinner. We put on the fans, wear longer items (pants or long sleeved shirts), and spray our ankles with mosquito repellent. We also close the doors to the house to keep the mosquitoes out at night and strongly recommend using the mosquito nets provided and fans when you sleep. Citronella candles are also useful and available in most local stores. Some guests also have bites from sand fleas, and the best way to avoid these is to shower immediately upon returning from the beach, and not place used beach towels or swimsuits on the beds. Please leave your extra insect repellent (and sunscreen) behind for other guests. The controls for the porch fans are right next to the bar in the kitchen and are in opposite order from how they appear on the porch (!). 8) FOOD: There are several excellent/decent restaurants within walking distance on the Playa Bonita beach, as well as in Las Terrenas itself, including the Costa Las Ballenas Italian Restaurent. However, if you’d like to eat in, you have several options: i) get groceries in Las Terrenas (Super Pola and Supermercado Lindo has the best selection); ii) ask CaribService to get groceries for you (for a fee); iii) emergency items can be bought at the corner store out of Playa Bonita (Supermercado Leon); or iv) order pizza (two numbers: Casa Coco 809-240-6095 or Pizza Playa 809-240-6399). They will charge appx. 150 pesos to deliver to the reception area of the apartments. 9) TRANSPORTATION: If you have not come by car, you can easily catch a “moto-concho” ride (riding on the back of a moped taxi) to Las Terrenas for around 150 pesos. They will wait for you in town if you ask. Fix the price beforehand. Everyone does it. Ask the guards at the gates of the complex to help you. You can also request a taxi (car) to go into town or for other touring purposes. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY ATVs INTO THE GARDEN. 10) OUTDOOR SHOWER: We encourage you to use the outdoor shower when you come back from the beach to keep the sand out of our showers. It is located near the laundry room on the side of a palm tree. 11) FANS: The fans for the porch are next to the kitchen bar, and the switches are in the opposite order from how they appear on the porch. One of the outdoor lights is next to the living room couch. 12) TRASH: The trash can for the kitchen is in the far back corner under the lid in the counter next to the stove. A trash collector comes and picks it up from the outside each day. 13) TELEVISION: The TV can be a little unreliable. Supposedly, the Villa has Dominican Cable (in four languages, but mostly Spanish). Please use the remote control in the basket on top of the console. You may also watch DVDs (put the ‘input’ button to ‘input 2’ for DVDs), if the DVD player is working (humid, salty air does a number on electronics). You are welcome to use our selection of DVDs or to rent others in town (Plaza Rosada or Club DVD across from the gas station). Please ensure that the video connection is set up properly with the yellow, white and red connectors in left to right order (they are labeled) at the front of the TV Make sure the TV is set to channel 3. 14) SECURITY: Although the Costa Las Balleñas property is very secure, with 24-hour guard service, we still encourage you to lock up the house when you are at the beach. If you notice anything strange, please report it to the reception. Most of all, ENJOY!! We are happy to share our home with you. If you have any suggestions on how to make a guest stay more enjoyable, please place them here!

Beautiful house in playa bonita
We stayed at villa dorada . The check in process was excellent . We got a local WhatsApp
Number of the property manager . She was quick to respond and took care of all our needs . The house has a black folder which is like a bible for that area. I mean it has everything you need to do and not to do. It felt like home and not a rental property . It was full of books to read . It’s very close to beach 🏖 food places and is very safe . The internet is fast and the location is minutes away from the best beaches I have ever seen .
Cons : the tv and cable were not working for those who want to watch tv . We played hide and seek till late so did not miss it .
Lot of construction going on in the neighboring houses so all day there were sounds of hammer etc . Again I don’t think it will last forever but something to ask before in case you want a quite experience . We had small kids and we love to sit in the patio and talk and laugh so we buried the sounds
In all a 5 star house and if and when I come back to playa Bonita this is the house I will try to rent
