This is our home and we have put a lot into making it beautiful. We’ve also built an eco-friendly house and hope you will enjoy taking part in sustainable living. While we want you to enjoy yourselves to the fullest, please take care of our home and PLEASE respect the following rules: Remove shoes and leave in mudroom. Make sure to wash off any sand with the hose outside. Keep the front door closed at all times. Mosquitoes are abundant and for everyone’s enjoyment, we want to keep mosquitoes out of the house. Do not pull wheeled luggage up the stairs because it will mark the wood. Unlock the front door before opening it from the inside – even though the door will open inside while in the locked position, doing so will damage the lock. Double-check that the recessed lighting in the breezeway is turned all the way off after use – sometimes the lights are barely noticeable when on the lowest dimmed position. Press the square switch to make sure the lights are off. Do not use any metal utensils on non-stick pans. It is essential to use coasters on the dining room table. Do not use ceramic or glass dishes outside – plastic dishes are in the laundry room for outside use. Do not use bath towels outside the house – beach towels are in the garage for your use. The septic system can only handle toilet paper – use the wastebasket for all other products. Cape Elizabeth follows single sort recycling so all recyclables can go in the same container. There is a list of recyclable items on the fridge and also in the laundry room. Please place recyclables in the “recycle” container. There are extra recycling bins and garbage cans in the garage. A composting container is on the counter next to the kitchen sink. All produce and coffee grounds can be put inside. If it gets full or smells and you want to empty it, the composter is about half way down the driveway on the right. Turn off the propane tank and clean the grill after use. Cover the grill once it has cooled down. Wash all dishes before check-out and leave the house in as relatively clean condition as you found it. Excessive mess will result in additional cleaning charges. Have a wonderful stay!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Hidden Gem— Perfect getaway to test & recharge!
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us this Labor Day weekend. We had a wonderful time, really latched on to all Maine has to offer and finding it hard to peel ourselves away. The two of you are absolutely fabulous hosts! We truly appreciate all the knowledge and suggestions you had to offer. We enjoyed the Portland Schooner Co sunset sail and Island Creek Oysters in particular and would certainly recommend both to future guests. Also Bite Into Maine and the lemon tart from Scratch. The list of things we loved ends only with the time to enjoy them. We very much appreciate your gracious hospitality and personal touch we would not get elsewhere. Breakfast was delicious and the berries served -- almost as refreshing as your kindness and generosity. We'd love to stay again so we'll keep you in mind for future ventures this way.
A little bit of Paradise with a Taste of Maine!
This is an awesome property tucked back in the woods of Cape Elizabeth. The owners are unbelievably accommodating for any and all needs. One of the beauties of this spot is even with the wonderful rural setting you are only a short 10 minute drive to the incredible Portland scene, 5 minutes from the highway and 15 minutes from the airport.
Their home is spotlessly clean and has all the modern conveniences of home that Elena shares with her guests. I truly look forward to this visit every year and hope to be going back for many years to come.
We look forward to having Bill and his family at our home each summer. They all seem to truly enjoy Maine and all that is has to offer and are wonderful guests in every possible way.
Second time is even better!
Our first experience being so great, we decided to book Elena's property for a second year in a row for our summer vacation with our three year old daughter. The moment we got there, we felt so glad we had made that choice! The house is warm yet serene... you can feel that the owner has thought of every detail to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as it can possibly be.
The location is perfect for those who want to enjoy a wide range of activities at close distance and I would say especially for young families who wish to spend a couple of hours at one venue and than come back home to rest or simply enjoy sun in the yard. There are numerous beaches within a 30 minute drive, some of them, including beautiful Crescent Beach and Higgins Beach being only 10 to 15 minutes away. On a cloudy day, you can visit the charming city of Portland, right across the bridge, and its amazing Children's Museum. A hit for our kid!
However, what really makes this property so special is the owner, Elena. You can tell that she really cares about her house and her gorgeous garden and that she is proud and happy to share it with her visitors. She is available for any question about the house, of course, but also to provide activities and restaurant tips... and yes, she will tell you where to get the absolute best Maine lobster roll. The house is fully equipped for cooking, well suited for young children and there is everything you might need for the beach. If you were to miss something, Elena will go the extra mile to accommodate you.
At the end of your stay, your head will be full of memories of gorgeous Cape Elizabeth... and you might somewhat feel like you have visited a friend. Thank you Elena!
Second time is even better!
Having such good memories of our first experience, we decided to book Elena's property for a second year in a row for our summer vacation with our three year old daughter.
I wrote last year about how the house is perfectly located between charming Portland and several beaches (beautiful Crescent Beach and Higgins Beach are only 10-15 minutes away), how it is fully equipped and fitted for young families... but I really think what makes it so special is its owner, Elena. You can tell she cares deeply about her house, her prolific garden and her sustainable living ideology and that she is most happy to share all of it with her visitors. Thank you Elena for your warmth and for always going the extra mile, especially with Chloé.
At the end of our stay, we left with even more beautiful family memories of Cape Elizabeth and with the feeling that we somewhat visited a friend...
It was an awesome property owned by awesome people!
Could not have been happier with this property and owners. I highly recommmend for future tenants!
What a pleasure it was to have Bill Staub and his family as our guests for the week!
The adjective that comes to mind in describing Bill as a guest is "class act". It is totally unexpected (and not required) to have our guests launder bed linens and towels, but the Staub clan not only took care of the laundry before they left, left our home in impeccable condition.
We enjoyed Bill tremendously and are now looking forward to an ongoing relationship for his future visits to Maine.
Hosts would be extremely fortunate to have Bill Staub and his family as guests.
Warm house in a perfect location
We spent a whole week with our 2 year-old daughter at Elena's house. What a great vacation we had! The house is big, super clean, fully-equipped (everything you need for the beach is also provided) and if there is anything else you might need, Elena is readily available at anytime to help you with any info on the surroundings, great spots to visit, restaurants and general directions. An impressive choice of small and pleasant beaches are just 10 minutes away and so is the town of Portland which is certainly worth visiting for a day trip or for dinner in one of its gourmet restaurants. But most of all, the property, probably because it belongs to such a warm person, will feel just like your home. From the cedar sidings and the calm atmosphere to the lush garden, you will be delighted to have chosen Elena's home and Cape Elizabeth as your destination. Do not hesitate!
The house is located in the middle of all the popular Portland area beaches.
Very well-liked Higgins Beach and Scarborough Beach are only 6-15 minutes by car and 20-35 minutes by bike (on lovely marsh roads!) In the other direction, Crescent Beach, Portland Head Light, and Willard Beach are only 8-15 minutes by car and 20-35 minutes by bike (on nice back roads).
Portland's Old Port is a very easy 7 minute drive over Casco Bay Bridge.
