Great house for a getaway
Arnie’s house was a great for our beach vacation. He was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish.
Fantastic place on the island
Arnie’s place was in a great location, clean, and comfortable. It had everything we needed for a few days on island. Arnie himself was kind, available, and made checking in and departure effortless.
We had a wonderful stay! Very nice property owner!
Arnie is the Best
Nicely equipped apartment with private entrance and AC. The only plus/minus is that it’s 20 min walk to Old or New Harbor and taxis average $15 one way. Great access to walking trails.
Week long getaway to Block Island
We (party of 5 adults) rented this apartment for a Monday-Friday stay on block island. The check in process was easy and seamless. The property was both professional and friendly and was always close by in case we needed anything. Here are the pros and cons to this property:
Be aware that this property is located on a street that is quite heavily traveled. The noise from the street, especially in the morning hours was quite off putting. Everything from cars to heavy trucks zoom by and will make you feel like you're in the big city next to a busy highway.
The listing states that it accommodates 6 people, but the couch/pullout bed in the living room area is shot. The cushions are no longer cushions and the mattress is very uncomfortable, you wouldn't want your mother in law sleeping on it (maybe you would, lol). Hide away beds in general are notoriously uncomfortable, but this one needs to go. Realistically, the couch should be replaced. We had brought along an air mattress, lucky we did.
We were located in the first floor unit and both units above us were occupied. Lots of noise from people moving around at all hours.
No washer and dryer and we never figured out where to go to access one.
Unit was very clean everything was in good working order.
Owner was available and very responsive.
Unit had most of the pots and pans we needed to prepare meals with including a nice big lobster pot. Could definitely use some sharp knives though.
It got quite warm while we were there during the day, but the unit has an ac unit in the living room that kept us plenty cool during the day--it worked great.
We would stay again, but with no more than 4 people and probably pack heavier knowing that there's no laundromat on the island. It was a great week!
It really helps to understand what you are renting before hand, by reading the description of the property, which includes the amenities offered and having good communication with me before booking and while on the property. It is clear the apartment is on the 1st floor and there are others renting above during your stay. My apologies that you were disturbed, not only by others in the house, but also that the house is located in the Old Center (formerly the Center of town in the 17 and 1800's) and not in a remote part of the island. Not everyone is on vacation and most people who live here year round have to work and unfortunately some drive large trucks. It is also clear that the apartment is a 2 bedroom with a sofa bed which is typically used for extra guests on a limited basis or children. It sounds like you should have rented a 3 bedroom, (which by the way I offer in my top 2 floors), again reading the description helps.
As for the house not having an available laundry facilities, once again it is noted in the amenities section that none is available in the rental, however if you had text or called me I would have been happy to recommend the Eureka laundry, drop off in the morning and pick up later in the day. My question to you is why would you bring your dirty laundry on few days vacation? If an emergency, I would have happily been willing to help you out with a load..
In conclusion, it seems you should have rented a single family 3 bedroom in a remote part of the island, with a washer and dryer, how did you end up at my place? Could it be that typically houses are not available for less that 1 full week, or you didn't want to spend the extra money to rent my 3 bedroom or any other 3 bedroom on Island? My apologies once gain for offering a great price, flexibility in renting less than 1 week (2 night minimum stay) and allowing you to up to 6 people in a 2 bedroom apartment.
