4 bedrooms and 2 bath home, sleeps 7. Mountain views.
Why Diane chose Stanardsville
This area of Virginia is a very special and beautiful mix of rural and mountain views. Close to one of the few entrances to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Also close to Massanutten Resort which offers many activities to include an indoor/outdoor water park. Enjoy many wineries in the area as it is near the Monticello Wine Trail. The house is the original 1947 cottage style home, and I am told that the builder used some wood/lumber from the mountain in the home. We loved the view, the area, and charm the house had to offer. We tried to preserve/restore as much as the charm as possible. Some of the doors, knobs, and wood flooring seem to be original to 1947 and some of the home seems to have been redone in 1960. We have worked hard to restore the home, and we left as many of the original details as we could to retain the vintage charm. Furnishings are mostly traditional style with some antique inspired or original pieces to honor the home's history.
What makes this House unique
The home has a large lawn, with views of the mountains. It is located in a nice quiet neighborhood with views of nearby farms. Very close to Lydia mountain and Evermore Farm venue. Near one of the few entrances to Shenandoah National Park. Cute vintage cottage charm, rather than your cookie cutter interior. 4 bedrooms and 2 baths make for a comfortable stay.

Houses in a very small quiet development nice place to stay
Thank you for staying at Bell cottage. We hope you come again. Have a nice holiday.
Everything was great as expected
Everything was prepared well for us.
Thank you so much for staying at Bell Cottage. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope you have a Happy New Year!
Cute cottage, basic, good location.
When we arrived, there was an infestation of lady bugs inside one of the bedrooms. We vacuumed them and plugged window holes but this was a constant problem. I called the owner to let her know. She was not aware of this problem, gave us some suggestions to fix problem and allowed us to checkout later than schedule, this was helpful. Overall the home worked out well because of the location. This is an old home so there few power outlets, kitchen is basic, small oven, no dishwasher, no washer or dryer...our bed was not comfortable.
It was unfortunate that the lady bugs that habitat the Blue Ridge Mountains in spring-summer chose your fall weekend to try to find a hibernation spot for the winter. The guests that stayed the week prior had no issues so I had no way of knowing the ladybugs were coming. Had I known I would have notified you of course. Fortunately, they are pesky but do no harm and the period of time they seek hibernation is very short lived prior to the cold setting in. I'm sorry you had to vacuum to remove them.
Thank you for clarifying that there is no dishwasher or washer/dryer in the cottage. This was not listed as one of the amenities included, so it is good that guests are clear on this prior to booking so that their stay can be a positive experience. All mattresses are newer and are popular name brands. During renovations we had an electrician add additional outlets in the upstairs bedrooms and in more convenient locations in the bathrooms. Guests will find all rooms have power strips located near end tables, night stands, desks, etc. so that guests can plug in multiple electronic devices in an easy to access location. The oven is a good size for the guest capacity of the home. It is good for roasts, casseroles, cookies, etc. However, it is not large enough for cooking multiple meals at one time.
Due to your report of the ladybugs, I offered that you could check out with full refund to find other accommodations in the area, but I understand this did not suit your needs. I'm glad we could accommodate your request to extend your stay by 5 hours on the day of check out.
We enjoyed staying at this little old farm house. It had a nostalgic feel and was clean. Two bedrooms upstairs and two down which was perfect for our family. The owner was quick to respond to my questions ahead of and during our stay. It took a little bit to figure out the heating system as it’s a bit older but other than that no complaints. We stayed during a fall peak weekend and the morning view from the front porch was gorgeous. We would stay again another time.
Thank you for choosing Bell Cottage and we are glad you may be a repeat guest in the future. The mountains must have been beautiful during peak.
We do have two different types of heating for upstairs versus downstairs. The upstairs heating units should just need to be plugged in and set to a desired temperature. They should automatically turn on and off to regulate temperature. However, directions are in the bedroom drawers should you need them in the future. The downstairs thermostat can be set to your desired temperature but the unit needs to be switched to the on position for it to run.
Take care and we hope you come again.
The property was really nice. The grandkids really enjoyed running around outside. The house itself was very roomy and had a homey feel. The water pressure was a little light for some of the guests, but they got over it. We would recommend this place to others for sure.
I am glad that the kids enjoyed playing on the 4 acres of property, and that the cottage had enough room to comfortably accommodate your party of 8. You are correct that the upstairs water pressure in the shower is a little light. Fortunately, the water pressure in the downstairs shower is strong as all the plumbing is new.
We hope you come again.
Lovely setting and quaint mountain cottage.
Kitchen needs some updates with very limited lighting but well supplied as far as pots 'n pans and dinnerware. We paid the linen fee and had an abundant supply of towels, etc. WIFI was available and there was a TV which we never even turned on! We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood and seeing the ducks in the pond nearby, and it provided us a comfortable family getaway weekend!
Thank you for staying at Bell Cottage. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. We are sorry to hear the light was out during your stay. We have since fixed this issue and also added some additional lighting.

Rapidan Wildlife Management Area (RWMA)- The Rapidan Wildlife Management Area has an exceptional native trout fishery. Healthy populations of brook trout abound in its rivers and streams; most notable of which are the Rapidan and Conway Rivers. The area consists of 10,326 acres broken into eight separate tracts distributed along the east slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison and Greene Counties. Four of these tracts adjoin Shenandoah National Park and share nearly 25 miles of boundary. Elevation ranges from 1,400 to 3,840 feet. The Rapidan, Conway, and South Rivers are the area's major streams. In addition to fishing, other outdoor activities compatible with the wildlife management area include hiking, camping and nature photography.
See the RWMA website for additional information/directions- Be advised wildlife management area roads, and roads leading to the area beyond state maintained portions, are narrow and not maintained to VDOT standards and can be rough.
