About Ralph Grizzle
I am a travel writer specializing in the cruise industry. I am frequently in Europe, but Asheville is my homebase, the Avid Traveler's HQ, so to speak. I have two wonderful children - one lives in Asheville, the other in Greensboro. I enjoy mountain biking and hikes and continually being awestruck by my beautiful city, the nature that surrounds it and the creative people that make Asheville what the city is today - and always has been for that matter. Did you know that F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in Asheville briefly? His wife Zelda died in a fire just down the street. I have written a few books, including Remembering Charles Kuralt (if you're too young to have known him, Google him - he's worth it). I wrote for 12 years for United Airlines' in-flight magazine, Hemispheres, and was editor of Porthole Cruise Magazine until I launched my own. My websites are Avid Cruiser and River Cruise Advisor.
Ralph Grizzle purchased this Apartment in 2014
Why Ralph Grizzle chose Five Points
I love Asheville, and I love the location of my home, which was on the verge of collapse when I bought it. I could see the diamond in the rough. Now completely restored, 220 Broadway is a wonderful house on downtown's doorstep, situated in a great neighborhood that is full of hidden gems - Habitat Brewing, Little Jumbo, High Five Coffee Shop, Five Points Restaurant - and some gems that are not so hidden, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods/Greenlife, as well as the eclectic mix of shops and restaurants that is downtown Asheville.
What makes this Apartment unique
I love the original windows, the heart pine floors and the happy spirit of the house. Much of the house reflects my life in Sweden. For example, the kitchen cabinets are an IKEA design called Hittarp. I used to live within walking distance of Hittarp, a beach community in southern Sweden. I've never had a better home than this one. It is a delight to wake up in this house each morning.

Great place, clean and well kept. Fantastic location
Ralph was an attentive host and the place was just what we were looking for: comfortable sleeping quarters, unbeatable location. Would easily stay again.
Absolutely wonderful! Clean and cozy, walkable to everything from downtown to groceries.
We couldn’t ask for a better experience. Our host helped recommend things to do in the area even before we arrived. He greeted us and helped when we arrived. The place is nicely appointed and clean and was perfect for our needs. We were able to walk to downtown each day to experience the amazing restaurants and attractions, as well as to the grocery store and coffee shop within a block. We were near the highway for excursions to hike and see the Biltmore. We couldn’t recommend it more highly!!
Thank you Jeff! You and your family were a delight to host. I could not have asked for better guests, and of course, it made me happy that you really enjoyed Asheville. Thanks very much for staying at my place and for giving it such high praise.
90-second walk to Harris-Teeter, Trader Joe's & Whole Foods, 6-minute walk to downtown, 1-minute walk to High Five Coffee and Habitat Brewing.
