About the owner: I am a travel writer specializing in the cruise industry. I am frequently in Europe - I have Swedish residency - but return often to Asheville, my hometown. This is my homebase, the Avid Traveler's HQ, so to speak. I come here to write and rejuvenate. I have two wonderful children - one lives in Asheville, the other in Greensboro. I enjoy mountain biking and hikes and continually being awestruck by my beautiful city, the nature that surrounds it and the creative people that make Asheville what the city is today - and always has been for that matter. Did you know that F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in Asheville briefly? His wife Zelda died in a fire just down the street. I have written a few books, including Remembering Charles Kuralt (if you're too young to have known him, Google him - he's worth it). I wrote for 12 years for United Airlines' in-flight magazine, Hemispheres, and was editor of Porthole Cruise Magazine until I launched my own. I love Asheville, and I love the location of my home, which was on the verge of collapse when I bought it. I could see the diamond in the rough. Now completely restored, 220 Broadway is a wonderful house on downtown's doorstep, situated in a great neighborhood that is full of hidden gems - Habitat Brewing, High Five Coffee Shop, Five Points Restaurant - and some gems that are not so hidden, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods/Greenlife, as well as the eclectic mix of shops and restaurants that is downtown Asheville.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I love the original windows, the heart pine floors and the happy spirit of the house. Much of the house reflects my life in Sweden. For example, the kitchen cabinets are an IKEA design called Hittarp. I used to live within walking distance of Hittarp, a beach community in southern Sweden. I've never had a better home than this one. It is a delight to wake up in this house each morning.
