Leave your car and your cares at the marina because Little Gasparilla is accessible only by water taxi! That means our beaches are uncrowded and tourists and traffic are just a mainland memory. If you are looking for a quiet tropical island to relax and unplug, Little Gasparilla is your dream vacation spot. Our "nightlife" consists of giant sea turtles laying their eggs -- our only bar is the sand bar where you can find sand dollars and shells!
This stunning property combines the best of both worlds on Little Gasparilla....the thrill of beachfront living with the convenience and great fishing that your own private dock on the bay affords you. This unique gulf-to-bay property offers a truly one-of-a kind vacation experience. From the white sandy beach on the bay side of the island, with views of Bird Key and the Boca Grande Bridge to the pristine beach on the Gulf of Mexico, this property gives you as much beach as you could possibly want. Your private dock offers plenty of room to dock two to three boats. And the fishing off the dock is quite simply spectacular. The owners also include the use of three kayaks to explore the bay. Please note that this home is not on the island pathways and therefore is NOT ACCESSIBLE BY GOLF CART.
The property affords a large yard and so much privacy that you and your family can spread out and enjoy the naturally landscaped grounds.
The house offers views of the bay from the screened porch and views of the gulf from the living room....again, the best of both worlds! The open concept kitchen/living/dining area is casual and comfortable and decorated in beachy vintage bamboo furniture. The master bedroom features a king size bed and views of the ocean...the second bedroom has three twins.
A separate downstairs bonus room is also available if you need extra room or anticipate extra guests...the bonus room has an extra bathroom, extra kitchen, two twins and a queen size sofa sleeper. It also has an additional flatscreen TV.
There is a natural sandy pathway leading to the beach which is rich with shells and shark's teeth, an abundance of shorebirds, natural tide pools and gentle waves. Little Gasparilla's beaches are among the most beautiful in Florida and are never crowded. Shelling at the south end of the island is always rewarding, especially if you head out immediately after your morning coffee!
This unique property offers a taste of old Florida in a beautiful, natural setting....the beach the way it used to be before seawalls and highrises became the norm. Bring your family to this "Island Paradise" and enjoy the best of both worlds in this beach to bay setting!
ANSWERS TO LITTLE GASPARILLA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...PLEASE READ!
• You cannot drive your car to the island and the only access is via water taxi; there is no vehicle ferry.
• You must park your car at the marina at the mainland but it will be perfectly safe there; parking is $6 a day.
• The water taxi is $10 per person each way and he will drop you right at our dock.
• All homes come with a grill.
• All homes come with beach chairs and an umbrella.
• You must bring all groceries to the island with you.
• There are no stores of any kind on the island, not even a convenience store.
• There is no need to bring drinking water; the water from the tap is safe and drinkable.
• There are first responders on the island and we have 911 service in case of an emergency.
• You can fish off the dock or the beach but non-Florida residents will need to purchase a fishing license.
INTERNET: There is no wired internet service on the island. There are a couple options for wifi. Most people just opt to use the mobile hotspots on their smartphones, especially if they have unlimited data or a large data plan. Cell service is excellent and that is the most convenient option...and it seems to work a bit faster. We can provide instructions on hot spotting if you are not familiar. If you do not have a smartphone, we provide a free Verizon jetpack BUT you have to purchase data AND YOU MUST REQUEST IT IN ADVANCE. You can either bring a Verizon card with you OR we can sell you one when we bring over the jetpack. You can buy as much data as you need, but it IS expensive....so we urge guests NOT to plan on using the jetpack for entertainment...no streaming music or videos, etc. It is more than adequate for checking emails, etc. and most people use about 2G of data per week which is $35. 5G is $60 and 10G is $100. (It is sort of like a cruise where you have to pay for the minutes you are on-line.) You just need to let us know in advance so we can make sure we have a fully charged jetpack available for you. If you bring a Verizon card with you, we can show you how to add the data. Or, we can pre-add data prior to your arrival but you have to let us know how much you think you will need. Just keep in mind that it is NOT the internet you are used to on the mainland, and anything that uses up a lot of data will increase your costs. (It is especially helpful to remind kids and teenagers who are used to unlimited data!) We usually suggest that people download books and movies to their tablets or e-readers BEFORE coming to the island..

About Little Gasparilla Vacation Rentals
We have lived on the island for 30 years and we started renting our own home many years ago when we traveled. Then our neighbors asked us to handle rentals for them also -- and now we offer vacation rentals in a variety of price ranges and locations on the island...from dramatic beachfront homes to cozy interior homes with lots of privacy. Our vacation rental homes are painstakingly cared for...we want you to feel like you are vacationing in a friend's home rather than a sterile "rental unit". So relax, kick off your flip flops, dig your toes in the sand and enjoy the island lifestyle!
Why Little Gasparilla Vacation Rentals chose Placida
We love the location of this home....with its sandy beach on the bay and the gulf beach out in front. The home is cozy and comfortable, with great views from both porches, and tons of privacy. The fishing is excellent off the dock which is an added benefit and -- another secret -- the shelling is always best at the south end of the island and this house is just steps away from the best shelling on the island!

It was the perfect get away! Staying right on the beach, having to be boated over. We don’t want to leave!! We see dolphins at the dock. We find endless amounts of shells. It’s like being on your own private beach. You can sit in the living room and watch the ocean or sit on the back deck drinking coffee and have the view of the ocean. Just perfect. We will definitely come back!
My husband & I spent 9 days on Little Gasparilla Island in this beauty! When they say it is one of a kind- it truly is! When you are dropped off at your dock, you walk up a private path surrounded by beautiful trees and greenery. When you walk up the stairs, there is a screened in porch and a side balcony where you can watch the sunset. The inside has everything you need, the kitchen is stocked, there are west facing windows in the living room where you can watch the sunset, also there is a balcony with 3 chairs off the living room. You can fish off the dock, take the chairs & walk to the beach, use the kayaks.... everything you need is there! A private path in the back takes you to the beach. I truly don’t think there is a better place to stay on Gasparilla Island, this place is the BEST 💗💗
Nice peaceful spot, house has a few weak points
With some attention, this house could be a lovely vacation spot for a big group. Upstairs, just a few basic improvements and repairs need to be made, but the downstairs "bonus room" has, among other problems, a heavy mildew odor and needs a more extensive makeover to be acceptable. Also note that the wi-fi is pay-as-you-go -- nice for people who don't want to spend their vacations glued to their screens but alarming for your typical 11-year-old in 2018. Our group included both... The location is beautiful, the house was clean, and the folks in the area, including the property manager, were all friendly and helpful. Once it's fixed up a bit this place will be a great find.
We are sorry you had issues with the house....especially the downstairs room. Since there were only four in your group, and the upstairs sleeps 5, we did not anticipate anyone would be staying downstairs and it may not have been opened up and aired out as thoroughly as usual. (It is normally used only for overflow sleeping and the additional bathroom. If there are more than 4 guests and someone will be sleeping downstairs, we can open the windows prior to arrival. Otherwise the room stays closed up when not in use. )
As for wi-fi, because there is no wired internet on Little Gasparilla yet, hotspots and jetpacks are among the few reliable wi-fi options. (And quite frankly, most people come to the island to get away from technology!) We clarify to all guests the wi-fi limitations...it is sort of like a cruise, where you have to pay for the data you use. We suggest downloading books and movies to your tablets prior to coming to the island, and caution parents of teenagers that wi-fi cannot be used for entertainment, streaming videos or music or anything that requires a lot of data. But sometimes that is difficult for teenagers! The owners ARE making upgrades in the house constantly...they recently purchased a brand new central AC unit. The unit was installed literally the morning of your arrival; the air had been off for two days which may have contributed to the musty smell downstairs. And I understand that the installation crew also left closet doors off the track in one of the bedrooms and we were unable to get them reinstalled prior to your arrival. I am sorry that the home was not up to standards when you arrived, but at least it had working AC which was a priority!
Sun, surf, sand with the privacy of your own house.
Had a wonderful stay ! House comfortably accommodated eight people (6 adults, 2 kids). The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The weather was perfect for the first week of February 75 - 80 degrees mostly sunny. The Gulf was chilly at 60 degrees, but way better than the frozen lakes back home. Fishing off the dock was good - live shrimp is the ticket ! Have a fish cleaning table with running water right on the dock. Tried to catch some blue crabs for dinner with no success. The kayaks were perfect to explore the bayside. Watched dolphins every day and had some feeding right under the dock. The hassles of getting your food and drink and water taxi to the island are soon forgotten as “island time” sinks in. Nobody wanted to leave.
A great place to be healed.
Island Mind....old Florida
Old Florida.... not many places still left like this.....
