Vacation with dog
I have been to Condominiums Pilar before but not this condo unit. It is a beautiful area. Nice beach area, and great swimming in ocean. Watching dolphins while Kayaking and swimming. However, Staff were slow to respond on wash clothes and towels. Only had one washcloth for 2 people and manager was too busy to-get some extras. Fortunately I brought some wash clothes from home. Bring extra would not be bad idea. Staff responded well to other request. The security guys are great. The patio overlooked public beach access, which unfortunately we had a great view their trash left behind. The condo itself was basic, older, and okay for dog friendly accommodations. We cleaned the condo as requested by owner ( take trash out, wipe counter tops, wash dishes you used, sweep the sand up, etc) your sorta expected responsibilities, but condo had no cleaning supplies. We bought our own to use. No paper towels and only one roll of toilet paper. Bring your own. The owners had 2 kayaks you can rent and we did. The kayaks are locked right on the beach great access and fun time kayaking with dolphins which is worth every minute. The restaurant has great food and great staff, which is well worth not driving into town. If you have time and want a great breakfast or dinner try Tortuga Bar and grill. Live music, great food and nice staff. Accommodations fair for the price and being dog friendly.
Great location, wonderful communication and price. Dated Condo
Pros: location, grounds, beach, owner communication and price
Cons: there is a reason it’s cheap. We go to another spot in Baja quite frequently
And you can get great places for this price if you book early enough. This place is DATED. The bathroom is the worst. Old everything, Lighting, peeling paint, fixtures. You don’t feel clean after taking a shower. It’s roughing it. The rest of the place just feels dusty. The bed upstairs is okay the pillows are terrible. Also our freezer smelled like fish. The towels, sheets and blankets were old and need to be replaced. We had a lot of rain while we were there and there is a leak in the door out to the patio that water pours into. We had to mop up constantly. The owners were wonderful to deal with but just be aware that it’s not the cleanest updated place. Also there is nothing in the condo. Not one garbage bag, laundry detergent or water. So you need to go to the store as soon as you get there or bring stuff with you if you can. You can buy water at the office of the hotel.
Thanks for your suggestions. Sorry to hear it wasn't cleaned to your satisfaction. There are maids on staff who clean between guests. When cleaning is finished, condo is checked by maid supervisor for quality control. I wish you had notified the office or me immediately of your concerns, so that maids could address them promptly. Normally, linens are washed after each guest and the cleaned home is left with soap and trash bags, of which supplies we have provided to the cleaning staff. Many other incidentals that might be needed upon your arrival are available in the onsite shop in the restaurant by the community office. As you mentioned, purified drinking water is available from the office for a nominal charge, where staff will promptly deliver the bottle to your door at no charge. We’ve tried to explain these details in the Operating Instructions that were provided to you prior to your arrival.
Although the guests who followed your stay seemed to think cleaning and recently replaced linens were fine, I’ve again purchased new linens and down feather pillows. Will have the maintenance staff check for painting/upgrade in bathroom and and the door seal on porch. Sorry to hear of rain water blowing in under the door seal. It rarely rains here, so perhaps the door seal has become brittle & needs to be replaced.
Since you mentioned "hotel," I'd like to clarify for "expectation" purposes that this is a privately owned condo in a cozy beach village, not an all-inclusive hotel/resort that caters to a different type of high end vacation experience…. and price. The premises are well illustrated in the online photos, so that guests can have a clear understanding of what to expect, but any future guests should feel free to ask if any additional questions.
Outstanding Location in San Carlos
We recently had the opportunity to stay at Cam Anderson's one bedroom condo located at Condominimums Pillar in San Carlos. The location was outstanding, right on the beach. The only things that need to be upgraded are the beach chairs available for your use. Furniture is dated but perfectly functional, would definitely stay again should we return to the area.
Thanks for your suggestion. Beach chairs have been bought and will be taken down on our next trip. ****
Great beach condo
On a great beach. San Carlos is wonderful, lots to do. Wonderful beach for the kids our second year in a row staying at Pillar Condominiums and can’t wait to go back!
Great beach and view but condo needs some work.
Loved the location on the beach and the view but the condo had some issues. Terrible smell from the bathroom shower drain. We ran a bunch of water for awhile and that helped. Water heater noise constantly that lasted a long, long time whenever the hot water was used. Owner wanted the dishes washed but didn't even provide any dish soap. Only one wash cloth and one hand towel provided which had bleach stains all over it. But, other than that, our stay was very enjoyable.
Thanks for your suggestions. We have replaced the shower drain cover for a more secure fit, with a water trap for odor control. The water heater had a mineral buildup that made a pulsing noise as it heated. It has been serviced by onsite personnel and is working fine. Future guests are encouraged to immediately contact the onsite office if any need for maintenance or additional linens.
