About Marcia Hadley and Patricia Shelby
In 2002 I purchased and renovated a large village house, 6,000 sf, in a smaller, neighboring hill town. In 2008 i helped the original owner of Il Nido design and furnish this 'nest'. Recently, Il Nido transferred to me and together with my best friend we felt it was too magical a place to have it 'leave the family.' We offer it to you, knowing that it is unique and that it may be a special place for you, too.

Why Marcia Hadley and Patricia Shelby chose Sinalunga
It is rare to find privacy and yet be in the heart of an authentic Tuscan hill town. Yet, Il Nido offers 2 private roof terraces, modern standards and the fun of village life. Pastries, wine, salumi and a very lively village café - all right outside the door. And Tuesday mornings the largest of the weekly markets offering everything from kitchenwares to fabrics to fresh fish and local produce. Sinalunga is just off the autostrada from Florence and Rome and the 'superstrada' that connects Siena to Perugia and Assisi and Deruta. Montepulciano is 25 minutes, Pienza 30 and Montalcino 45. See our website for other distances and times.
What makes this Apartment unique
To live like an Italian requires a deep breath and a sense of enjoyment of small things. Il Nido offers stunning views, comfortable living, privacy, but the opportunity to experience Italy first hand.

Artists stay in IL Nido
A week at il Nido for two artists was a taste of what we will return to many times, we hope. The apartment is a crow’s nest above the lively piazza. The sounds of the Italian life, just out our windows, and below the roof terrace, animated the locations, but were distant enough to feel private. We particularly liked the periodic ringing of the ancient bells.
The piazza had all the conveniences we needed for daily living, too. Pastries, wine, fruit and vegetable shop and a great corner café!
The apartment provided all that we needed for relaxing a few days. And the location is a great place to use as ‘home base’ for a wide variety of day trips. We loved the hot mineral baths, since we were there in the fall.
Everything was well set-up and generous. We love to cook so between the great thoroughly Italian Tuesday market, the great kitchen and the covered outdoor dining terrace, we were very happy. A smaller market showed up Thursday, too. Very Italian. Not many foreigners.
This response was written by Ben, an artist that stayed with his significant other last September. Both were artists, some of their work now hangs on IL Nido's walls. I posted his review for him and ended up with my name listed as as reviewer.
They were delightful guests. We loved hearing about the menus served on the terrace using local ingredients.
Sepetember at IL Nido, Sinalunga Sienna
Il Nido! I don't know where to begin. First of all, Sinalunga is perfect off-the-beaten-path base for wandering Tuscany. It’s a small town, mere kilometers from tourist destinations like Montepulciano, and within day trip distance to Florence, Pisa, Siena.
Il Nido is nestled amongst a maze of Medieval-era homes and churches atop a hill that overlooks a spectacular view over the countryside to hill towns in the distance. The apartment is located directly on the Piazza Garibaldi, up two flights of stairs. The Piazza a spacious stone plaza bustling with locals, a handful of cafes and restaurants, water fountain where locals continually replenish empty bottles, and an incredible weekly Tuesday market (trucks bringing seafood, fresh pastries and bread, clothes, traditional local crafts).
The photos of this place don't do it justice! It’s two levels, plus a rooftop patio with a stunning 360 degree view of what seems like the whole of Tuscany. We ate breakfast there and toasted the sunset with a glass of wine nearly every day.
The rooms are spacious, with plenty of linens, hair driers, toilet paper (which might sound silly to mention, but after spending time in a variety of apartment rentals with less than enough of such stuff, it makes a huge difference). There are delightful touches like bookcases filled with books in English, Italian and French (happily consumed in the late night hours to the crackle of a wood-burning stove in the living room). The kitchen is one of the jewels about this spot: large, fully equipped with all the cookingware and cutlery, dry goods, wine, local olive oils, pastas, vinegars, etc, needed to get started cooking Tuscan delicacies. During our stay, we took advantage of the Tuesday market and stocked up on fresh fish, fresh eggs, olives, cheese, cured meats. We could barely bring ourselves to dine out.
Other things to note: there is a washer (for drying, there are racks in the sun). There is plenty of parking around, though make sure you have the signs figured out and park in a 24 hour spot and move Monday night since the Tuesday market sets up very early. I very much recommend renting a small car for your stay here, as the countryside is stunning and you’re so close to so much.
Oh, and PS: There are thermal springs and mineral baths all around. Do not miss them!
Sehr schöne und gepflegte FeWo!
Geräumige FeWo, Sehr schön gelegen, Sehr gut eingerichtete Küche, Sehr gute Pizzeria vor der Haustür
Il Nido will give you something you really can't find anywhere else - the opportunity to 'live like an Italian'. restored 10 years ago to modern standards, Il Nido has 2 private terraces overlooking a lively, authentic Italian piazza and the panoramic view beyond. You can sun bathe on the top roof terrace in complete privacy or step out of the building into the center of a traditional Italian village piazza. Tuesday mornings Italian life comes to you, as the weekly market fills the piazza. Throughout the week the pastry shop will tempt you. You can bring empty wine bottles to the Vino Sfuso to refill with the local wine and buy cheeses and salumi. In the summer, just a block away, the large village swimming pool will let you enjoy summer life, Italian style. If you are bringing children, there is a wading pool and across the main piazza a large, friendly children's park and play area. Stop, breathe and enjoy. Il Nido is located in Sinalunga, a larger market village that is convenient to Siena, Perugia and via the A-1, Florence and just a little over 2 hours away, Rome. Sinalunga is in the heart of southern Tuscan wine country - equidistant to brunello, Chianti and vino nobile. If you are here the first weekend of the month, Arezzo and its very famous antiques fair is only 45 minutes away, both Saturday and Sunday. Bear in mind that every little village and hill town has something special to be discovered; local cheese maker, a bee keeper, a museum, a painter, a wine maker, a doll maker or a bakery. And seasonal festivals for truffles, olive oil, artichokes and more. And then, there are the wines.... The owners are pleased to advise about logistics, guides, chefs, cycling, hot air ballooning and the local driving service and other inquiries. We love the area and want to share that with you for your stay.
