About Colin McLarty
After growing up in Texas I moved to New Orleans in 1993 at the ripe old age of 19. I lived in the Marigny neighborhood and walked to work in the French Quarter. For 10 years I lived and loved New Orleans, but it was time for my partner and I to start a new 10 year journey. We moved around the country and lived in Houston, Chicago, Santa Fe, and San Diego. All of the cities were wonderful and have a special place in my heart, but it was time to come home to New Orleans. We bought Bywater Craftsman and started our vacation rental in 2016. I am a Realtor in the neighborhood and surrounding areas and have developed a deeper passion for our unique architecture we are so fortunate to enjoy in New Orleans.
Colin McLarty purchased this Apartment in 2016
Why Colin McLarty chose Bywater
Bywater Craftsman was renovated in 2015 and has all of the modern amenities and creature comforts of home including central air and heat, washer and dryer, LG stainless steal appliances , and marble counter tops in the kitchen. We are located in a fun neighborhood with lots of local bars, restaurants, shops, galleries, and even a brewery scattered throughout. We are a short Uber ride or bus ride to the French Quarter, but far enough away to get away from the madness when it's time to relax. If you're feeling ambitious take a walk to the French Quarter through Crescent Park along the Mississippi River and watch the barges and ships pass by. Around the corner is a Blue Bike station where you can rents bikes and return them at any Blue Bike station in the city.

Great location, great house
The house was in a perfect location, it was very clean and nice.
I would recommend this property to other people.
Comfortable and cute
We had a wonderful stay here and felt very at home.
Beautiful, immaculate, lovely!
This is my second stay at Colin's home and I loved it every bit as much this time as I did the first time. I don't even have the words to describe how perfect this place is. It's immaculately clean, it's renovated and feels brand new in all respects, everything you need is thoughtfully provided, and it's quiet. The kitchen is modern and Colin provides a Keurig along with the capsules to make coffee. The bathroom is bright, also modern, and cheerful, with plush towels. There is a washer and dryer and there was laundry detergent there as well. The bedroom is located at the back of the house which keeps it very quiet. There is no street noise and no train noise at all.
The location is perfect. In my case, I chose it because it is near family but the Bywater is amazing in its own right with eateries, jazz music, wine bars, and the best coffee around. The levee is nearby as is Crescent Park and all the tourist sites are a quick drive away. Don't miss Revelator coffee at Paloma Cafe, pastries at Bywater Bakery, wine and music at Bacchanal, music at Vaughns, barbeque at the Joint, and even pizza at Pizza Delicious-amazing pizza and this is coming from an ex-New Yorker. These are all within walking distance!
I don't write many reviews. I missed my chance to write one for this rental the first time I stayed because I waited too long. I made sure I wrote this one! This rental is one of the best I've ever enjoyed and I want to make sure Colin gets the credit for it!
This was our first visit to NOLA so we had no idea where to stay. This place was a great choice. Loved the decor. I was afraid the location might be a bit far from what we wanted to do, but it was a very short drive to everything we were there for. Colin was so nice and easy to work with. The neighborhood was quiet. We would definitely stay here again in the future.
Beautiful Cozy Home At An Affordable Price
I stayed in this beautiful home during the weekend of Essence Festival, and I loved everything about it. The owner, Colin, was very welcoming and helpful, and was always available if I had any questions. The house was stocked with everything you could need, from water in the refrigerator to washing detergent for the washer/dryer. The neighborhood was nice, and within walking distance to many little shops. But be aware that this home is only supposed to sleep two guests, since it is a one bedroom house, or Colin could risk losing his license. I’ll definitely stay at this house again on my next visit to New Orleans.
Lovely house, near Crescent Trail and walking distance to live music, bars and restaurants
The property is in great shape and was very comfortable. Our two grandsons stayed over one Saturday and thought the fold-out couch was quite comfy. The layout is great if you have four people: although this is a shotgun, the bathroom comes before the bedroom. The location, for us, was perfect. We could walk to Elizabeth's, Bywater Bakery and Satsuma Cafe for breakfast, and return on the Crescent City Trail, which has an entrance at the bottom of Poland Street, about four blocks from the house. We were literally around the corner from Vaughan's Lounge, where we heard Corey Henry on two consecutive Thursday nights.
Our only disappointment was the stocking of cooking related items. We ended up purchasing a colander and a large bowl (very inexpensive at the Dollar General just up the street), which was no big deal really, but it would have been nice if they had been there. The fridge was well-stocked with water, however, which we really appreciated.
