With an address like “Jungfrau Trail,” there has to be a bit of an Alpine flair here. And, there is! Welcome to the Rocky Mountains and welcome to Terra Furma! A unique and amusing map of the United States graces a wall at Terra Furma. Various quadrants of the country are printed over with cautionary observances in block letters proclaiming them “TOO RAINY,” “ TOO HOT,” “TOO UNDERPOPULATED,” “TOO OVERPOPULATED,” “TOO EXPENSIVE,” “TOO NICE,” or “TOO SAUCY.” But, proudly emblazoned over the State of Colorado is a word that says it all: “PERFECT” And, the perfect way to experience Colorado is to find your way up to Estes Park and spend some time at Terra Furma. It is a masterpiece of a house that can only be described in superlatives. A bridged walkway leads to the front door. Gracious trees bow in homage to your passing. Opening the front door you are greeted by a glass wall of windows showcasing a magnificent mountainscape of the Mummy Range in Rocky Mountain National Park. Ypsilon Mountain at 13,514 feet is flanked by Mt. Chapin, Fairchild Mountain, and Mount Chiquita. But this is not the only focal point. There is glass everywhere and Mountains march in review past every window. Splendid near-at-hand trees wave greetings in the breeze. Terra Furma’s sunken living room is about as close to “outdoors” as you can get “indoors.” Stunning views join in with your every conversation around the fireplace. A sublime dining room table set for ten with ladder-back leather chairs are calling for your next gathering of friends or family. French doors open to a massive deck replete with elegant rattan furnishings perfect for lounging. Yet another dining table offers outdoor seating if you choose to employ the fine Weber grill standing at the ready to grill some trout outside tonight.
“Kitchen” is an understatement for the masterful culinary environment at Terra Furma. The appliances are among the very best that Sub-Zero, Bosch, Viking, Thermador, and Cuisinart have to offer. Stacked ovens and six gas burners await your command. Impress the onlookers at your gallery bar as you prep the lamb racks, sweet potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, and selected greens for an evening feast.
There are two over-sized king suites at Terra Furma. Each has a private balcony. The east suite on the main floor has a magnificent view of Ram’s Horn Mountain and is embraced by forest. Its bath suite has a polished barn-wood motif and a view shower that is big enough to hold a dance, with two copper sinks. The west suite is upstairs and features 180-degree panorama to mountains, mountains, and more mountains with a vaulted ceiling, a view shower, his and hers sinks and walk-in closet. We’ll save the dramatic walls mounts above the bed for a surprise!
But, the fun has just begun. Terra Furma’s lower level features a family room with a flat screen TV and sound system, fireplace, and a stylish pool table. A portrait of an aspen grove draped in the rich colors of fall adorns the south wall. A baker’s dozen of windows lets you never forget why you came in the first place. An outside deck and stairs melt into the woods to find the coolest kid’s swing ever! The first of the downstairs bedroom suites features a private patio. The second is for the “buckaroos” in your entourage. It has bunk beds for four (with two trundles), a dressing room, vanities as sturdy as trestles, and wait until they see the clothes hooks and the “bath” room!
There are lodgings — and then there are LODGINGS! Considering where Terra Furma is situated and the amenities it affords its guests, this has to be one of the finest vacation accommodations available in America today. And, assuming that your journey to Estes Park and Terra Furma was inspired in part by a desire to visit Rocky Mountain National Park, you won’t have far to go. The Park’s nearest boundary is less than a hundred feet away. Venture out the front door, walk across the Jungfrau Trail that brought you here, and you can step directly into the National Park. The Park is Terra Furma’s nearest neighbor. And, in the course of staying here, you will discover that Heaven isn’t very far away either. Enjoy your stay!
Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at Terra Furma — separated from the hustle and bustle of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the Terra Furma residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!
