About Leanne Spencer-Harper
I'm originally from California, but now have lived in England for over 8 years with my British husband and our 1 year old daughter. I love having amazing adventures, travelling the world with my hubby, and mothering our precious little one.
Why Leanne Spencer-Harper chose Henley-on-Thames
The cottage belongs to Bob and Angela Spencer-Harper, my lovely English grandparents-in-law. Sadly, Angela has now passed away, and Bob is in care, so my father-in-law, Michael, and I manage the cottage and rent it out on Bob's behalf. The Old Place has been in the Spencer-Harper family for over 40 years. It is a very special place to gather and we have enjoyed making many happy memories there. We love sharing it with other people to make memories there too!
What makes this Cottage unique
The Old Place is steeped in history, having been built around 1604, and retains many of its original features, including its original exposed wooden beams and its large inglenook open fireplace. The cottage has a stunning outlook across over half an acre of expansive enclosed gardens. It is perfect for a quintessentially English countryside experience, being nestled in a wooded valley which the British government has deemed an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). There are loads of lovely walks right out the back door and a charming village right up the road. A cosy country pub is just a short walk away, which serves up delicious food and delicious ales!

Book group visit to Oxford
A delightful country cottage, well equipped and comfortable with a fantastic garden. It was the perfect location for our book group weekend enabling us to explore Oxford .
Away from it all in Oxfordshire
This is a beautiful cottage with a glorious garden. Although you might think that you are miles from civilization, in fact there are some great pubs (with very good food) just a short walk away, and a lovely village store! And masses to do around and about.
Very friendly welcome and a super house for a family break. Totally enclosed garden which was very safe for our two young grandchildren. A plentiful supply of everything needed was there right down to dustbin liners , logs for the fire etc. The house has a warm feeling about it and although the furniture cannot be described as new , it is a very comfortable cottage. Local pubs are very good and there are good country walks. Henley is just a short drive away.
Michael was very accommodating on arrival with lots of useful local info.
The garden and surrounding woodland are great for exploring with kids.
If you like character, open fires and history within easy reach of beautiful little towns this place is for you.
The Rising Sun pub at the top of Witheridge Hill. Excellent cafe, another great pub and award winning restaurant in Stoke Row. Delightful shops, bars, pubs, restaurants, theatre and cinema in Henley. All of the above plus John Lewis in Reading. Sightseeing in Oxford, Windsor and the surrounding area. Three nearby National Trust properties to visit.
