Peaceful, Cozy Getaway!
My husband, Blue Heeler - Dixie, and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Camelot. The home was warm and inviting! The pictures simply cannot convey the warm and peaceful feeling of the place. I absolutely fell in love with the antiques in the home!!!! The bed slept great and we found everything we needed to fill our needs. We made due with the bathroom window situation that someone mentioned by simply placing a towel over the window. The home is back in the woods on 3 acres, so I believe the mindset is it is away from prying eyes. However, if one is uncomfortable try the trick we incorporated.
We arrived mid-afternoon and drove up to Camelot as some had posted about the road condition. We found it to be easy to navigate on a Buick LaCrosse when traveling slowly, especially over the drain tile areas. No problems! We had the good fortune to meet the owner, who was very hospitable and invited us in to look around. After a nice chat and visit, we were off to explore the area. Close to Ingles and downtown and many sites, such as Gem Mines, Orchard at Altapass, Little Switzerland, and more. We have visited all of these places in the past, but Mt. Mitchell was a first for me.
We had the best time visiting downtown Spruce Pines where I picked up a copy of "The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree" for a gift. Burnsville was also a delightful place to visit. We love shopping antiques and flea market type venues to find special treasures to take back home to our little log cabin. The visit to the top of Mt. Mitchell was so awesome!!!! Lots of great pics taken there; nothing more beautiful than nature. It was great to unplug, unwind, and live simply. Laura, the property manager, was so easy to work with throughout. Thanks so much for allowing us to bring our Dixie Girl! It made the trip complete.
Nice house, poor details
Old house definitely has a lot of charm. Unfortunately many details make it not very comfortable and limits its full potential. Poor details such as:
- very dirty plastic chairs on the beautiful deck that make it impossible to sit on.
- no curtains on big window of first floor bathroom really makes it uncomfortable to take a shower or go to the bathroom.
- plastic covers on all mattresses upstairs make sleeping very uncomfortable due to sound and heat.
- missing very basic kitchen utensils (such as a cutting board), making it uncomfortable to prepare meals.
- cabin sleeps 7 but dining table sits 4 and is falling apart..... has plenty of space for a bigger table.
All of these are very simple fixes that could make the house much more pleasant to stay in!
Was not up to par !
I was not impressed with the accommodations at all .
Such a cozy, beautiful, secluded stay!
My boyfriend, dog and I stayed here over this Labor Day weekend and it was the perfect getaway! The house is so secluded and private, yet a close drive to a grocery store and a couple of restaurants. The house is adorable and in great condition. Everything was clean and very well maintained. It was definitely bigger than what we needed for two people, we would definitely go back again with a large group of friends/family. We loved our stay and recommend it to anyone!
Very comfortable cabin
Laura was great helping us out and she made sure we had everything we needed. The cabin was clean and comfortable.
Quiet stay in the middle of the woods in a charming property.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Beautiful wide pine floors, open concept living area, quaint gardens, and a warm woodstove for a chilly evening. We especially liked the rear deck overlooking the woods. Property had everything you need to enjoy a quiet, relaxing time in the mountains. The driveway is a bit tricky with a lower car but worth the drive up.
