Welcome to Castle in the Sand in an award winning boardwalk like community!! This home offers four bedrooms and three baths and can accommodate 11 guests. An open floor plan makes this an ideal home for gathering friends and family.

There is also plenty of outside space, on the front porch and rear patio, for enjoying the beautiful outdoors!!! If you are looking for a little quite time, there is a private screened in porch off the master bedroom. Additionally, the loft area is a great place for the kids to hang out!

The community offers many amenities that are available to all guest, these include a pool, basketball court, tennis court, putting green, playground and a fishing pond.

We are only a short walk from Sheridan Beach, Indiana's best beach on Lake Michigan. The Indiana Dunes National Lake shore is a 5 minute drive away and boosts great hiking and picnicking, as well as the beautiful lake front. Blue Chip Casino has recently built a new full service hotel, to go along with its' bigger and better casino. Washington Park Zoo is just a short journey down Lake Shore Drive. Lighthouse Outlet Mall is within minutes, for those looking for that great bargain!!!

There are also many dining options in the Michigan City/New Buffalo area.

Wonderful weekend getaway...

Castle in the Sand is the perfect spot for a getaway with friends or family. We spend most of our time together in the large kitchen/dining area and on the screened-in front porch. The property is about 30 minutes from the Warren Dunes, which Were a wonderful place to visit and explore. Being from Chicago, we were happy to find that Uber was also easily accessible. The place was very clean and had all the equipment/amenities you could need. Thank you!

Clean and ready for our family.

This is our fourth stay in the Beachwalk community, and Castle in the Sand was by far the best equipped with regard to kitchen supplies (I have a very picky chef husband) and beach necessities. To have four umbrellas, countless beach towels, and an amble number of beach chairs was much appreciated. Steven was quick to respond to questions and we were very happy and comfortable during our entire stay. We hope to have opportunity to stay here on our next family reunion.

Great location just steps to beach!

My family spent a week at Castle in the Sand and loved, loved, loved the location! This is our 7th time renting in Beachwalk and definitely one of the best locations in the community for getting to the beach with ease. The house is clean and the kitchen high-end and very well stocked. There is a first floor bedroom which was perfect for grandma. All the upstairs bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. It appears that this property is still a bit "under construction" (walls partially painted and missing molding around some windows) but nothing that interfered with our comfort.

The front porch is great for people watching and just relaxing. We liked being so close to all the action and not having to walk far to the beach or pool. There is a very cool rooftop deck (although it's missing railing and sort of dangerous for young kids) and once that is completed it would be a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset. While some of the other properties we've rented here have been fancier inside, we all agreed that this property was one of our favorites because it felt like a relaxed beach house and the location was fantastic. We will definitely consider returning to Castle in the Sand again next year. Steven the owner was very easy to work with and responsive to questions.

Beautiful home

The house is very clean. It has all new appliances. It's close to the beach, pool, basketball court and pond. The owner gave me his cell and email, but we didn't need to contact him as everything was very good. We went to the zoo and Treehouse restaurant ( very kid-friendly ). Everything was excellent!! Highly recommend!

Excellent house

The house is in great condition. The induction stovetop was new since our last visit, and we had to resort to YouTube to find out how to work it - then it was our 7 year old who became the expert. Plenty of towels, cooking equipment and wineglasses.

Steven has been very obliging with check-out times.

It is easy walking distance to the beach, but far enough that the wind is moderated.

Think Twice Before Booking

Imagine a minivan packed full of a week’s worth of needs for a family of 5 – luggage, coolers & grocery bags full of food, fishing poles, strollers, bag chairs, beach & swim toys, sleeping bags, etc - halfway into it’s drive to Castle in the Sand on a Friday at 2:20pm only to get a call from the owner informing them that the house “won’t be ready” for their 3pm check-in time and giving them a check-in time of SUNDAY at 5pm instead. That’s the call we received from Steven, the owner of CITS, the day our vacation was to begin. Steven apologized and offered to refund our vacation and pay for 2 nights in a hotel while he finished numerous construction projects on the house. However, hotel rooms simply were not an accommodation that would work for 3 families convening at Beachwalk with coolers full of food & cars full of gear. Our group decided to find alternative lodging rather than spend 2 days in limbo waiting to get into CITS on Sunday. Thankfully we were able to secure another rental for the week. And in hindsight, after seeing the interior of CITS, we are incredibly thankful that we did because the construction work would never have been completed by Sunday as was promised. However, having to frantically pull over to the nearest rest stop before even reaching our destination to reorganize a vacation that was planned, booked and paid for months in advance is completely unacceptable. Steven agreed to pay the $1,100 differential between the weekly cost of his rental and our new rental. After numerous follow-up calls & emails, we finally received the $1,100 from Steven on June 30th, 11 days after our scheduled check-in date at CITS, and after we were already home & done with our vacation. Needless to say this was a huge source of stress for us on vacation – wondering whether Steven was actually going to make good on the payment he had promised, checking our email & voicemail for communication from him, etc. All that being said, I would NEVER recommend renting from him. It is unimaginable to believe that he didn’t know that the house was unsuitable to accommodate guests more than 40 minutes before our arrival. What he did was unconscionable and we deserved better than that. Unreliable contractors & unforeseen construction delays causing a rental home to be uninhabitable should not be the burden of the renter and in this case, Steven allowed it to become our problem.

Owner's Response: I do not wish to sling mud via these reviews and agree with most of what this review has to say. In my defense, I did make a very reasonable offer because the house was still under construction and agreed to wave our normal refund policy. The house was subject to a frozen pipe and a large amount of water, causing severe damage. I worked on the house through out the winter and spring, but unfortunately timelines and schedules do not always work out. For those considering this property, the work has been completed and photos of the house will be posted soon. We toke advantage of the disaster to update the upstairs bathrooms and the entire kitchen. We hope these upgrades will be suitable for all of our future guests. We hope you consider us for your rental and will do everything we can to make sure you have and enjoyable stay!
