About NIck and Francesca Hurrell
Nick and Francesca Hurrell We are semi-retired and live in England (West Dorset, close to the beautiful Jurassic Coast). We have been visiting the area for over 25 years as Francesca's parents lived at Catalina from 1990 until 2013
NIck and Francesca Hurrell purchased this Villa in 2013
Why NIck and Francesca Hurrell chose Vinรงa
We bought Catalina in 2013, from Francesca's parents and have successfully rented it as a holiday let ever since. 2019 is the first year the property is available on Home Away / Abritel. Francesca's parents had the house built in 1989/90. It was their home for 23 years. We stay in the house for 2-3 months each year and have tried hard to maintain the "family feel". We think this sets it apart from other rental properties.
What makes this Villa unique
Many of our previous guests have commented that Vinca is an ideal base for a vacation. A car is necessary for longer days out, but many of our guests find that they stay in Vinca for a large part of their holiday! The house is just 2 minutes walk from the centre of this quiet village - with local shops, 2 bars, restaurant and an excellent take away pizza. Yet, Catalina is set in a very secluded and quiet road in it's own extremely spacious area (0.4ha). The beach is just a few minutes walk. Climate plays an important part in a holiday - so if it's too hot on the coastal plain, the proximity to the mountains offer a cooler (and peaceful) alternative. The Pyrenees are much quieter and no less spectacular than the Alps! Whilst the coastal area is lively and offers lots of excellent beaches (and is only 30 -45 min drive), like the rest of the Mediterranean, it can get get crowded in summer. Vinca is an excellent place to return to after a busy day..... swim, BBQ and relax....

Fantastic tranquil place in a beautiful setting. Incredibly well equipped villa in a lovely "local" town. Great base for exploring the Pyrenees, coast and Spanish borders. Loved the area & people are really friendly, didn't find one town/village that we didn't like and didn't encounter a single grumpy person!
Thanks very much for the review. We’ve always thought that Catalina is ideally positioned for both the mountains and the Mediterranean coast, so it’s good to hear that from our guests too. Very pleased that you found the area so good for cycling as well.
Excellent stay in perfect area for cycling holidays
We were staying 1 week in Vinça with a group of friends for our yearly cycling trip. The house was perfect, with 2 nice terraces and a large swimming pool. The area was perfect for cycling in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Overall highly recommended!
Thank you for your review - and we’re glad you enjoyed Catalina and the surrounding area.
Yes, the area is ideal for cycling (and triathletes too - with the local lake at Vinça used for long distance swim training). Don’t forget to tell your friends about us!

A beautiful home - so much more than just a holiday house
Firstly, Nick and Francesca made all of our communications so easy - from the booking process, to finding answers during our stay, they were quick to respond and very helpful with suggestions and advice.
The house is truly beautiful and felt like a comfortable, luxurious home. There was absolutely nothing missing - the kitchen was fully equipped (including most pantry staples and some gratefully received local wines), all linen and towels were also provided. We all loved the pool, especially our daughters and they were also really thrilled with the games room and the board games. The garden is a beautiful haven - it was so nice to sit on the terrace for a meal or read a book on the sofa with all the living room doors open to the view - such a perfectly relaxing space to unwind.
The location is superb - we walked through the little town of Vinça a few times, and down to the lake (the peace and solitude was wonderful). We also visited Perpignan (including an outstanding meal at Le Garriane - thank you for the recommendation!), Villefranche, Eus, Prades and the Orgues D’Ille sur tet. We followed the directions to the cascades at Estoher and enjoyed the walk through the woods (stopping short of the final climb but paddling in the stream under the bridge instead).
Altogether it was one of our most memorable holidays and the house was one of the most wonderful we’ve stayed in during our travels through Europe.
Thank you Nick and Francesca for sharing your beautiful home with us.
Massive house for relaxing holidays in Occitanie
Loved Catalina. It's a big house with all the needed amenities and even more. The TV reception wasn't great however, the HDMI cable was good to have. We didn't get to enjoy the pool as we stayed over Easter but we would have surely had a quick dip. It was really easy to communicate with the owners to arrange the keys and ask any questions. Vinça is quite small but there are many great places to visit around: Orgues d'Ille-sur-Têt, Prades and Vernet-les-Bains were our favourite spots.
So glad you enjoyed your short stay at Catalina and thanks for the review. Good Luck with the house hunting!
