Very quiet and relaxing stay.
Aside from issue as with VRBO site not accepting our final payment and having to obtain and mail cashiers check, we loved our stay and the cabin and surroundings were beautiful.
Our quick getaway
The cabin was beautiful although a bit out of the way. The appliances in the kitchen were updated which was great and we had plenty of dishes. They also had an electric pressure cooker and a ninja blender, which was wonderful. It is a bit out of the way and there is no wi-fi so be prepared. We used our own data and that was a bit spotty as well but if you want to be totally unplugged this is the place to do it. It says that there is a fireplace but there wasn't one. There was a fire pit on the deck but it didn't have any propane. My kids were disappointed we weren't able to have smores. Also, the only tv available was a small 13 inch. There was a DVD player but no movies. We went into town and rented our own. Despite a few disappointments, we really had a lovely time.
Great cabin but felt a little isolated
We loved the cabin and definitely would rent again. It was comfortable and felt like home. The ranch is a bit off the beaten path but not too far from town and things to do. We expected more people to be around but when we first arrived it felt abandoned and we weren't entirely sure what we were doing. I didn't get very quick responses from the property manager and sent several emails and didn't get all of my questions answered. That being said, there weren't a lot of rules to follow and the process overall was quite easy. We woke up to snow our last morning and the kids were super excited! A couple of little things need to be completed, like varnishing doors and hanging smoke detectors but the place was still in good working order. There is a fire pit area right behind the house and a bigger one by the lodge. The doors blow open to the outside when it's windy so be sure to bolt lock them. We didn't see any elk but did get to hear them bugle. Lots of beautiful stars too! The ranch was quiet and peaceful, but could use a bit of upkeep. The horseshoes were scattered all over the property and walking through the grassy areas left us all with burs on our legs. All in all, the place was great, but a little different than expected. We love the pinetop area and would definitely visit again!
Comfortable and relaxing.
Very cute cabin! Enjoyed our stay very much.
VERY BAD EXPERIENCE
THIS IS A REVISION OF A REVIEW, CASE 23862478, PER YOUR REQUEST:
My wife and I rented this cabin for a family vacation with our young grandchildren and their parents. Unfortunately, the photos of this chalet didn't exhibit the problems we would face upon our arrival, July 10. When we started to put our food away, we discovered that there were rat and field mice droppings in the kitchen cupboards. Continuing our inspection, more rodent droppings were in two of the other bedrooms, spiders and their webs were everywhere: under the beds, from the walls to the bedframes, in closets, and in the kitchen above the stove. We found dust bunnies under the beds, along with an empty soda bottle and pieces of candy. Most alarming was the third bedroom closet. On the closet floor was a three foot round area covered with more rat droppings, dampened by urine. Additionally, the wood plank flooring had spacing between the boards that was open to the ground below. We saw spiders coming through these gaps into the living areas. I sent a text to the owner describing our discoveries and asking him for a call back to discuss our situation. He never called.
Our family decided it would be best to plan a relocation rather than staying at this cabin. Having a knowledge of the hantavirus, caused by rodent droppings (in California Yosemite was closed after people died due to an outbreak, and a lady from showlow died this year from the virus) and knowing there was no satisfactory cleanup without the use of bleach and other chemicals, we didn't want to expose anyone more than necessary. The owner called us the next morning saying he would send his agent by, and talk to his cleaning people.
Two hours later, he texted that his cleaning people did clean the day before. Incredible. His agent arrived after that. He looked around and left.
I received another text from the owner. The agent "said that the cabin was clean with the exception of the mouse droppings and a few bugs." He continued, "Cabins in the woods are a different experience than hotels in the city," and, he "realized that different guests have different levels of sensitivity and the mouse droppings and bug issues are a bigger problem for you than our prior guests." He closed by offering us one free night. We declined
We found another rental later that morning and left, losing a week’s worth of rent.
Bottom line is that this place was filthy and a health hazard. Oh, and we were just too sensitive.
This guest greatly exaggerated the problems he complained of, fails to disclose important facts and generally misrepresents the situation. He sent me pictures of what he called widespread infestation, the pictures showed trace amounts of rodent droppings and one spider web. Then he complained to vrbo and said there were no pictures of what he complained of. Ask yourself, why would file a complaint and refuse to send his own pictures in to vrbo? Hmmm...I wonder. It’s because the pictures contradicted his exaggerated story. I went ahead and sent the pictures in to vrbo and they decided not to do anything. When he complained I immediately had my agent inspect the cabin and he said the problems were minor and the guest was overreacting and hypersensitive. The guest didn’t like me inferring that he was over sensitive, I guess he gets that a lot. He also didn’t acknowledge that I offered to have the cabin immediately cleaned again to satisfy him and he declined. He wanted a free stay at the cabin, rather than have the minor problem taken care of. Every once in awhile you run into folks who specialize in making mountains out of molehills and seek to take advantage of situations. Fortunately, I haven’t had any other dissatisfied guests as just about all of my other guests have given the chalet 5 star rankings.
Loved it! The cabin was great!
It was a little hard to find due to a road name being different on google maps. Once we were there though we fell in LOVE with the cabin! Definitely would love a longer stay next time. Very clean & accommodating. Our teen loved the loft. The pictures do this home no justice. Much more than expected
Elk Haven Chalet is secluded to assure privacy yet conveniently located near the quaint mountain community of Lakeside/Pinetop.
