The villa is very spacious (280 square metres), well maintained and is a perfect situation for people who want space to relax. The villa is set in private grounds and is in a quiet and secluded village offering access to lots of local amenities and things to do nearby.
The garden is very large (7,000 square metres), providing space at the back for a decent sized football pitch (30m x 25m) with two goals. It also has an orchard with fruit and walnut trees.
Set in the front garden there is a large private, secure swimming pool that is 12.5m x 5m with a patio area to sit.
At the front of the house the lounge opens out onto another terrace with space to barbecue and sit and eat.
We have a few (not very well maintained) bicycles that you are free to borrow to ride around the country lanes.
www.labelleauberge.com is 300m away and is a wonderful and very inexpensive restaurant where you can sit outside in summer and enjoy the most fabulous food.
We bought the house ten years ago to enjoy holidays with friends and our young family. We often visit with other families and the villa is large enough that 10 people can stay very comfortably.
We chose the location because being in the south of France near the Spanish border the climate is great.
Within 45 minutes you can either drive to the best surfing beaches in Europe at Biarritz or within 1.5 hours you can be at the top of the Pyrenees skiing at 1,850 metres. The mountains and the beaches offer lots of other activities at different times of year. Being within easy reach you can enjoy a bit of both.
If you want to go on other trips you can easily get to Pamplona, San Sebastian or Bilbao in Spain, or head up Les Landes to Bordeaux or east towards Carcassone.
Being the area of France that heralded the 17th century King Henry IV, there are lots of Chateuaux and historical sites to visit. The pilgrimage to Compostello follows the river and passes a few hundred metres from the house, and Salies-de-Bearn a beautiful medieval village is just 7km away. Lourdes, set in the foothills of the Pyrenees is less than an hour away.
The house is set in the countryside, with a beautiful river that offers some of the best fly fishing and rafting experiences you can find.
Being France, the food and wine is abundant and fresh, and this part of France is especially famous for its gastronomy.
Whether you want to keep yourself very busy or chill out, we hope you will find Villa St Jean to be as perfect as we do.
