About Russ Abney
I was born and raised in small town in rural Georgia. In middle school my family moved to St. Charles, Mo. and then to Huntington Beach, CA. I attended Berkeley for Undergrad and returned to GA for law school (Go Dawgs!). I worked in Texas for over 15 years before relocating to Atlanta. My wife, Aileen, was born and raised in Tokyo and attended college at Wellesley. She initially worked for a Japanese Company (Recruit) in New York and then relocated to Houston shortly after we met. We have two girls , 17 years and 13 .
Russ Abney purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Russ Abney chose Copperhill
We live in the Atlanta area; about an hour and a half from the cabin. We found the cabin during a beautiful winter weekend getaway in 2007 while Aileen was recovering from breast cancer surgery. We fell in love with the tranquility of the place and our children loved playing in the river and living among nature. We bought the cabin a month or so later. I love the world class whitewater that is available in the area and enjoy introducing people of all skill levels to the local rivers. The people of North Georgia and the Copper Basin Area are down to earth, good hearted people. This is the place for people that love the outdoors but don't love roughing it.
What makes this Cabin unique
As you have probably seen, there are hundreds of cabins available in this area. I have seen none that match the river experience of Canoe Cruise. There are no hills or stairs, or roads or railroad tracks between you and the river. There are no busy road or nosy neighbors; the Ocoee River is in your back yard and you will have it all to yourself. You will at home when you drive down the driveway and you will feel immersed in nature the whole time you are here. The quality of this place shows from the beautiful woodwork to the tranquil view of the river. And it is easy to get to. Located half way between Copperhill and Ducktown only 1/2 mile off of Highway 68, there are no dangerous mountain roads or drives with blind switchbacks. The access is flat and straight, making it an easy drive year-round.

Everything was as promised and was great.
An absolutely beautiful cabin on a picturesque piece of the Ocoee river. Owner was excellent about communication and it's close to a lot of fun outdoor activities. If you're looking for an awesome place in the woods to spend a relaxing vacation look no further rent this place.
We stayed at Canoe Cruise in October 2019. It was so pretty, the owner was so nice and made sure we had everything we needed. It is very secluded, which is what we loved about it.
Whether you’re seeking an amazing location for your next outdoor adventure or a serene retreat to rejuvenate, this is THE place for both! Not only is the cabin close to great hiking and whitewater rafting, the quaintness of the towns within minutes of the cabin provided opportunities to enjoy local cuisine and art.
For those that love to cook, this cabin’s kitchen has everything (and more)! By far, the best stocked kitchen with nearly every item you’d need to entertain. Love love, love how inviting the decor was and the beds super comfy!
The owner is incredibly responsive and quick to offer local hot-stops to make your trip memorable. He even offered to connect us to outdoor outfits to enhance our time by jumping into class II-IV rapids on the river. The cabin is surrounded by woods providing privacy to enjoy the morning visits from deer, ducks and other wildlife.
If you’re looking to have gathering at the cabin, horseshoes, volleyball, pool, complete bar, tons of board games and poker table will keep you busy! Afterwards, the spacious deck with seating for an army allows everyone to unwind by the fire.
Wholeheartedly recommend this cabin for its superior location, charming accommodations and responsive owner. Great time had by all and will come again!
Sandra - thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review. I am delighted your group enjoyed their stay. I would love to have you back for some whitewater rafting! I will even come be your safety boater. My best,
Very nice and quiet location.
Awesome cabin in a prime location!!!
Russ could not be nicer or more helpful. The reservation and checkin process was easy and the cabin is as advertised, large and secluded with lots of activities but still minutes from shopping and dining. A group of seven of us on a guys trip rented Canoe Cruise for a white water rafting weekend and it worked perfectly for us. The cabin is well maintained inside and out and offers loads of activities. We took full advantage of the horseshoe pits, the volleyball/badminton area, the pool table, the game table, the hot tub, and the river that runs right along the property. After telling my wife about the cabin and how much fun we had she wants to take the family there next year. Count me in!
Our cabin sits on the banks of the Ocoee River and is conveniently located between Copperhill, TN and Ducktown, TN. While enjoying activities at the cabin you will feel a hundred miles from anywhere, but you will be minutes from everything in the area: whitewater on the Ocoee, ziplining, shopping, spa treatments, golf and more.
