About Jerry & Robin Reaves
Jerry is a retired middle school teacher & I (Robin) teach elementary school. We have two adult children, both married and a precious grandson. We built Robin's Nest ourselves along with the help of family members. We divide our time between the N.C. coast and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Jerry & Robin Reaves purchased this House in 2002
Why Jerry & Robin Reaves chose Newland
After several years of vacationing in Avery County, we discovered this quaint & secluded community called Roaring Creek. After getting to know the neighbors & exploring the natural beauty of the area, we knew this was the place for us. We love being "off the beaten path" and away from the hustle & bustle.
What makes this House unique
Robin's Nest is conveniently located from most area attractions. The Appalachian Trail is a short walk from the house. Boone, Appalachian State University, Banner Elk, & Blowing Rock are all within a 30-45 minute drive. The Blueridge Parkway, Roan Mountain State Park & Linville Falls are close as well. The city of Asheville with the Biltmore House is about an hour's drive away. If you enjoy fishing, grab a pole & go down to the creek & fish for wild mountain trout. (NC Wildlife Fish & Game Regulations apply) or put on your hiking boots & hit the AT! When you grow tired of sight-seeing, fishing, & hiking, grab a cup of coffee or tea and a good book then, settle down on the porch swing or better yet, curl up on the swinging bed and relax to the sound of the rushing waters of Roaring Creek!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Quiet and relaxing
One of the best places to stay in Avery County!
Robins Nest Review
Very adequate accommodations and we enjoyed the soothing sound of the water at Roaring Creek on the property
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed your stay. The the relaxing sound of the creek while resting on the front porch is our favorite also.

We had a great Holy week weekend on this cabin, we enjoyed every single days we stayed and we would like to stay more. Cabin is beautiful..
Amazing location at the edge of a roaring creek.
Cozy and charming decor in this scenic location. My family loved spending the Thanksgiving holiday here. We didn’t even explore other sites in the area while here because this house has everything we wanted in a mountain getaway.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it. We’d be glad to have you back anytime.

Roaring Creek itself is a marvel!
We had 7 people in this 5 BR cabin. It is comfortably, but modestly appointed. Lots of seating in the main living area. Perfect for coming home to after hiking along wet trails in warmer weather than we anticipated!
The 2 living areas (1st floor and basement) were great for having different levels of activity going on at the same time.We enjoyed some family game activities in the basement living area. Apples to Apples was a favorite.
The creek behind the house is really special as are the outside decks.
There are at least 3 eating areas, and 2 are outside. There was no place where all 7 of us could eat a family meal. While the deck eating areas are terrific, we missed having a family table. There were only 4 chairs in the dining room when the table and space could easily accommodate 6. That and the 2 nearby bar stools would have sufficed nicely.
There are several wonderful places to eat in Newland, but the distance makes it likely you'll want to cook at least some meals. The kitchen met our needs with the exception of the dishwasher (or lack thereof). I should've paid closer attention to the listing.
Beds were comfortable. We were prepared for no cell service in the area, but the internet availability in the cabin allowed WiFi connections when needed. It was nice to be away from phones and screen time for the most part. The roaring creek is so soothing. Disconnecting from the electronic world was a pleasure.
The home is located in an area where there are lots of waterfalls within a reasonable driving distance (usually less than 30 minutes each way). Made for perfect day trips with picnics by the waterfalls.
We saw a fox and a flock of wild turkeys on the way back to the cabin one evening. Chipmunks were playing around on the grounds as well as an abundance of squirrels. We enjoyed using the fire pit for making S'Mores.
Overall, a great vacation!
Loved the “roaring” creek!
We all enjoyed sitting on the upper deck listening to the creek. Home was clean, comfortable and kitchen well stocked. Super comfy king bed! Host was excellent to work with and quick to answer emails. Only improvement would be filling in driveway on muddy end so guests would not have to back up onto main road.
Thanks for the wonderful review. I would like to mention that the “muddy end” is not actually part of the driveway, it’s a shallow part of the road ditch and can be muddy after a rain. The main road is a rural road and has about 5 cars per day going by because it leads to a dead end. The driveway is about 50 feet long. We do have a plan in place to make a turnaround very soon.
