Overview

About the property

Newly renovated apartemnt on street level in St Paul en Foret. Sleeps 2.

This ground floor apartment is ideally situated in the heart of the village just 2 steps from a pizzeria, restaurant, hairdresser and the village general store. The entrance door leads out onto a wide pavement where it is possible to sit under the plane trees and listen to the waters of the nearby stone fountain. In the Summer it is refreshingly cool, and of course, the trees lose their leaves in the winter so it's good then too.

The oak beamed interior has been recently renovated and equipped with a new washing machine/dryer, fridge, microwave/grill, 2-ring hob and bedroom furniture It is a very comfortable and pleasant place to stay, and is well placed as a base for exploring the local area.

The apartment sleeps 2, with one double bedroom.

Our studio is situated in the church square in the center of St Paul en Foret, a charming village, in the middle of wooded hills . The peacefulness, the luxurious vegetation and the strategic geographical situation (sea and mountains) make St. Paul an ideal place to sample the relaxed lifestyle of the region. This is one of the 8 hill villages in the Fayence area, and is about 30 minutes from St Raphael and Cannes. It is an ideal area for walking, with many tracks leading into the surrounding countryside, through the pine woods, vineyards and olive groves. Lake Rioutard is nearby with a walk around the perimeter and signs explaining the indigenous plants. There is also another lake, much larger, called le Lac de St Cassien. This is about 20 minutes away and has water sports such as windsurfing, rowing, pedalos and canoeing.

St Paul en Foret is close to the other hill villages such as Fayence, Seillans, Montauroux and Callian, as well as all the shops, markets and facilities that this sought after area has to offer. It has two very good yet reasonable restaurants, a bar which does lunchtime menus, and a pizzeria. There is a general store, a butcher’s and a hairdresser’s as well as a post office, library, cinema and community centre. St Paul en Foret has its own tennis courts, which are a ten-minute walk away, past the Mairie and a small chapel and there is also an equestrian centre.

It is only ten minutes from the very prestigious Terre Blanche golf resort, and also about ten minutes from Bagnols en Foret, a village that is in another good walking area with stunning scenery. The area as a whole is known as the ‘Pays de Fayence’, and there are events organized all year round such as plays, concerts, lectures and dances. There are numerous shops restaurants and bars and everything you could want is right here nearby, with free parking in all the villages.

This part of France is very special. It has stunning scenery with lakes, rivers, and gorges. Stone walls enclose vineyards and olive groves and all is bathed in the clear light which has always attracted artists and writers. We feel very privileged to wake up every morning in such a wonderful place. We have lived in the area for many years and are always on hand to offer help and give advice when needed.

St Paul en Foret is in a good central position for visiting places of interest further away. For example, San Remo in Italy takes about one and a half hours, The Verdon gorges are about 2 hours,

About Marjie Edwards

We have been resident in this area since 1976, originally based on charter yachts on the coast. We had a spell back in the UK in between, but were eager to return. We think there is nowhere better than here and every day feel so fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world.

Marjie Edwards purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Marjie Edwards chose Saint-Paul-en-Forêt

We were looking to buy a property for rental to supplement our income, and fell in love with this apartment as soon as we walked in.

It has a lot of character, with beamed ceilings, and what was a bonus was that it was on ground level and has a fountain outside on a wide pavement.

So many places we had been shown were accessed by dingy or dirty communal stairways.

Parking is possible right outside under the plane trees of the village square, but if all the places are taken there is still room to double bank to unload cases or shopping.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is in the centre of a very attractive village in a good walking area. There are a few shops in the village, and two good restaurants are a few paces away - as is a takeaway pizza parlour. There is also a bar.

If you want to go further afield the area as a whole has everything you could want in terms of shops, restaurants and places to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great base from which to explore Provence

  • 5 of 5

I have spent a few very relaxing days in St-Paul-en-Foret, a wonderfully quiet village in rural Provence. The apartment is clean, up together, with a good shower and well equipped kitchen. The sofa bed and double bed are very comfortable. The apartment is street level with parking outside and is only a couple of minutes walk from two good restaurants.

This is a great base from which to explore Provence. Many beautiful villages nearby, wonderful walks from the door and only 30 minutes drive from Cannes. Very good value for money with very friendly and helpful owners. I will return.

A good choice

  • 5 of 5

We have spent four good days in this apartment. It is cozy, clean and well equiped. We were 4 persons and the bedroom and the bed-sofa of the living room were enough for us. Also is well connected because you can be in Cannes in 30-35 minutes. A good choice if you want to enjoy the "Cote d'Azur" in a cheap way, or if you want to rest in a quiet town of France.
