Relaxing, Comfortable and Scenic
Second year for us and we have already reserved for next year. Mike Oplinger is an excellent host and the property is immaculately maintained. There are neighbors, yet the setting makes you feel as if you are secluded. The view down the lake is spectacular.
A peaceful, quiet get-away spot ...
This cabin was lovely -- beautifully furnished (including needlework in the dining area) ...a well-equipped kitchen ... spacious deck ... lots of soft towels and hot water on demand. A very steep incline down to the lake and dock could challenge some "seniors". Take a toaster if you don't want to be limited to the toaster oven. There's a comfortable, cozy living area for TV watching and plenty of board/card games available, too. If you need to "re-charge", watch a few chipmunks, enjoy a mug of hot coffee while breathing in some fresh mountain air, this is a wonderful spot.
The Great Escape
My family enjoyed a wonderful week here at "Almost Gone" in mid-August 2018. We have 3 kids 8-10 and a dog. All enjoyed the privacy, and water fun. We rented a trampoline and used the kayaks constantly.
House was well maintained and clean and completely as advertised. The view from the deck was great. And my kids and dog enjoyed all the running around the hill and swimming.
It was really the great escape from our busy lives and the perfect place for family bonding and water fun!
Thank you! Love “the great escape”!
Owner provided perfect amount of communication. I felt the owner really cared about our experience. Rental was clean and provided all the amenities we expected and more ! We had good weather and enjoyed our stay. We would recommend it to others.
A wonderful home in which to relax lakeside.
Mike was awesome to work with, very responsive and thoughtful. His vacation home is lovely and very peaceful. It is by far the best equipped and stocked kitchen we have experienced, which was very helpful. The lake views are lovely from the many windows, with lots of places to sit comfortably and relax. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Almost Gone.
Beautiful property on the water
We had a wonderful stay. The owner was very helpful throughout the whole process, before, during and after our visit. The house had just about all the things one needs for everyday living, such as paper towels, condiments, small appliances, coffee etc. The list is long! The view is magnificent, and we fished and swam in the water everyday. We also ate meals on the outdoor deck which has a peaceful, relaxing water view. We enjoyed playing horseshoes, grilling on the excellent outdoor grille and using the fire pit to make s'mores. I loved the quaint and comfortable decor and furniture. There were 7 of us, which included two teens and two young children and a dog. The sleeping arrangements worked for us. The only issue for us was that the loft was very warm during the day. It would have been nice if the kids could have spent some of their daytime hours in the loft, reading and playing games, but it got quite warm, so that didn't happen. However, there were plenty of other things to do. The owner did provide fans which helped a little bit up there. A couple reviewers have mentioned the drive to lake activities. The drive to the main lake area, shopping and restaurants was about 10 minutes. We found the drive very pleasant, just know that you can't zip to activities in two minutes. In addition, there is a somewhat steep hill that leads to the pier. It is a bit of a workout to walk up the hill, but wasn't a problem, even for the senior citizens. However, if one of your guests has mobility limitations, then they may need to spend their time enjoying the view from the deck. The home is not a large home, but it worked well for 7 people. We all would love to come back.
Definitely don't miss hiking at Swallow Falls/Herrington Manor state park, the hike and the waterfalls and bathing pools are spectacular among old growth forests.
