About Theresa

We searched for many years and found this paradise. We plan to retire here to this house. In the meantime we hope to share the Aloha with others who appreciate a slower pace, relationships with the neighbors, and enjoy the cultural heritage and activities that Molokai has to offer.

Theresa purchased this bungalow in 2015

Why Theresa chose Kaunakakai

This ocean front property is very special. The fish pond reminds us that there were many here before us and we have a duty to honor and respect the area. We are caretakers. The people of the East end have helped our family and created memories for the entire family. It is a unique and special place.

What makes this bungalow unique

The beach often is pristine and you feel like you are the first to walk it in the morning. The fishing can be done from the beach or wade out to the reef; you can snorkel, hike, sit and meditate, or go deep sea fishing. Local guides take you up to the waterfalls and share the history of Molokai. There is something for everyone.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tonight is the last evening and ...the family is thinking: want to stay!!come again!! During our stay ...we've been part of a Hawaiian heritage visit, made leis, had a hula lesson, shared Talk Story. Now it's time to carry...the Aloha spirit back home. Loved our stay here!

Words Cannot Describe the Awesomeness!

  • 5 of 5

We can't wait to get back to this perfect paradise on Moloka'i! The beds are comfortable, kitchen well stocked, home very welcoming. We never wanted to leave the lanai overlooking the ocean and Maui in the distance. Theresa is amazing and easy to connect with, with lots of ideas for fun and interesting things to do on the island. We've stayed on Moloka'i many times and Lanikai Beach Bungalow is the very best!

We had a fabulous visit to Molokai!! Our wonderful house on the beach truly helped us enjoy the simple beauty of Molokai. The accommodations met all our needs, and we immediately felt like we were at home. The sad part was leaving, but we plan on visiting again. Thank you Theresa for all your help.

Great - rain or shine

  • 5 of 5

Lovely home with terrific furnishings. Large deck with covered areas was a wonderful place to enjoy the ocean and Maui views, rain or shine. Spacious for two, and would easily accommodate three couples or a family.

Incredible home on the beach with everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place to enjoy paradise. Directly from the house(without driving) we snorkeled, kayaked, grilled fresh fish, hiked to a beautiful valley overlook with waterfalls, watched whales, sipped fresh brewed Molokai coffee on the deck watching the sunrise over Maui, walked the beach and heard great stories about Molokai from Martin next door. Loved staying here and would stay again if I get the chance.

Fantastic seaside location, proximity to snorkeling lagoon and beach

  • 5 of 5

We were two couples traveling together and we liked the privacy the annex provided our group. The large lanai with the views of Maui, sunrises, stars and migrating whales was unforgettable. The protected shallow lagoon is perfect for snokeling and children's swims. The beach is small but beautiful.

The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and dishes, etc. The washer and dryer were convenient and there was plenty of detergent on hand. There was also plenty of sea toys and equipment, e.g., kayak, life jackets, snorkel masks and tubes, etc. Most everything in the house worked fine, certainly everything necessary for an enjoyable stay.

The only real drawback, but also a plus, is the distance from town -- grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Be sure not to fly in on Sunday like we did when all the grocery stores are closed because the only thing open is the mini-mart, which doesn't have a lot of groceries. We had to drive back to town on Monday to stock up for the week. (FYI, there are 3 boxes of bisquick in the cupboard!) You can bring a box of groceries on the Mokulele plane from Oahu, which is what we should have done.

Also be aware that the house to the west is close, so sometimes we could hear the neighbors. The road is close, too, but there is very little traffic at night, maybe only one car all night, and not much traffic during the day.

The beach is short, and there's no shoulder on the road, so walking opportunities are limited. But a bigger beach is just up the road from the house.

I recommend this beach house to families or couples seeking a relaxing seaside Molokai stay. The layout and location are both very nice.

Gorgeous location and lovely cottage. Highly recommended if you want to experience rural Hawaii!

  • 5 of 5

This is a terrific cottage located on the east side of the island on the road to Halawa Bay. It is quiet and has an awesome lanai to relax and enjoy the ocean view. It's a long, but beautiful, drive to the town of Kaunakakai (30 to 45 minutes) for shopping and restaurants, so this cottage is perfect for those who want to enjoy the rural island lifestyle. The master bed is comfy and the cottage is roomy and well appointed. The only thing I would recommend is for the owner to update some of the kitchen pots and pans. The non-stick coating on the skillets is long past their useful time. It would also be nice if there was a gas grill instead of a charcoal one for those who grill frequently. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely vacation rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. The kitchen has a mix of high end pots and pans along with convenient non stick pans. I will replace the non stick pans immediately. We tried a gas grill when we first arrived on Molokai and found that the corrosive sea air required the starter to be replaced at a minimum monthly so decided to go with the charcoal grill as all of our neighbors with more experience with the tropical environment have done. I am glad you enjoyed your stay overall. The tropical setting, being right on the beach, and enjoying the rural lifestyle is what makes the house special. I hope you will return to Molokai Beach Bungalow.
