About the property

Enjoy the quaint character and charm of this beautiful waterfront cottage! you hear the screech of the bald eagles, swooping low to the dark waters to catch a salmon? Do you hear the bark of the seals, basking in the late afternoon sun on the docks and piers along the waters edge or the cacophony of crows fighting over clams? Breathe in the delicious aroma of mounds of lavender mingled with the fresh salt air as you relax at the Port Orchard Bayview Beach Cottage.

Everything good about the Pacific Northwest comes alive when you stroll across the large, covered porch of the Bayview Beach Cottage. It’s a rare gem awaiting you and those you’re traveling with, nestled on the water's edge of peaceful Sinclair Inlet, in Port Orchard, WA, and just a ferry ride away from the skyline of downtown Seattle.

Built in 1918 and restored several times since then, this beach cottage is the quintessential experience for anyone wishing to escape the madness of our modern world without giving up any of the comforts. Three well-appointed guest rooms, a large parlor for entertaining and a fully-stocked kitchen will meet your needs, while also benefiting from more modern luxuries like high speed Wifi and modern appliances.

Walk on the 170 feet of private beach, collect sun-bleached clam shells, or try your hand at paddle boarding in the Bay (arrange with the owners in advance and plan to use a dry suit, as the water is chilly year around).

Located less than three miles from quaint Port Orchard, WA, the Bayview Beach Cottage is lush with history, charm and beauty. The main level living room/meeting room features hand-hewn log beams, harvested from the property at the turn of the century, milled on-site and used to create a warm and inviting space in which to let your creative juices flow. Nestled on a forested hillside, the Cottage has a patio in the back with enough tables and chairs to accommodate 16 for your outdoor entertaining.

The Bayview Beach Cottage has three sleeping rooms upstairs and a shared bathroom:

"Suite Dreams" - the first room at the top of the rustic pine staircase, will wrap your weary heart in love as you fall asleep listening to the waves of the Puget Sound and the ferry boats quietly slipping by. Suite Dreams has a queen size bed that can sleep two and a trundle bed that has two twin-sized mattresses.

"Wings of Love" - a second sleeping room down the long hall that serves as an art gallery for local painters, including some of Delilah's original art work, as well. This delightful room will wrap you in "wings of love" as you rest amidst paintings of feathered friends and antique bird cages. Gaze out the windows and watch the bald eagles and seagulls dance above the waves of Puget Sound. Wings of Love has an antique brass queen-size bed, brass twin bed and a twin rollaway.

Lavendar Fields" – the third and largest room at the end of the hallway. It features a California King-size bed nestled in an antique wrought iron headboard, as well as a comfortable seating area with plenty of books to choose from. This room allows you to feel the breeze from the Sound as you curl up and get lost in your favorite story. Author Debbie Macomber's "Cedar Cove" series is written about Port Orchard and Sinclair Inlet. You can read her touching stories as you gaze out the window upon the natural beauty that inspired them. Her home is less than a mile from the Bayview Beach Cottage and her wonderful restaurant, "The Tea Room", and yarn shop is less than 3 miles in distance.

Bayview Beach Cottage is perfect for small retreats, intimate outdoor weddings, family reunions and weekend getaways. If all beds are used in the three sleeping rooms, the house can accommodate 10-12. For couples choosing private rooms, six persons.

Artists can gather to paint in plain air on the porch or the beach. Knitters and crafters can shop at Debbie's Macomber's yarn shop and then create! Best friends can bond as they talk heart to heart. Womens' groups may gather to pray and worship, (a well-tuned upright piano awaits your fingertips!) and men can rest before departing early to golf the famous Gold Mountain course or fish the bountiful rivers and streams on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Want to pick wild blackberries? Come in July! Collect polished glass in Port Townsend? It’s just one hour away! Visit the wildlife reserve in Sequim? It’s just 40 miles away. You may wish to hike the multitudes of trails and explore the many parks and beaches of Kitsap Peninsula, which is just mere minutes from your front door. Do all these things and more, then return to rest and reinvigorate at the Bayview Beach Cottage.

Pick fresh herbs from the kitchen garden and cook sumptious organic/non GMO meats and veggies raised by Delilah (order ahead of time) by finding the fridge and freezer stocked for your arrival. You can even order local wines to be chilled. Make your own lavender soap using goats milk and lavender from Delilah’s farm and a little guidance from our on-site staff.

If you are a Seahawks fan looking for a unique Seahawks experience, book ahead and reserve your room for the big game weekends. A ride can be arranged to take you the three miles to the foot ferry which will take you to the Bremerton ferry dock where you will board a classic Washinton state ferry, glide across the deep blue waters of Puget Sound to downtown Seattle. Cheer on the Hawks, join the Legion of Boom and take an uber directly to the airport when the game is over.

If you are looking for the PERFECT wedding venue and you envision an outdoor wedding with photos along the waters edge, book now.

The Port Orchard Bayview Beach Cottage awaits your arrival.

About Joni Sonneman

Wikipedia would define me in the following way: "Delilah Rene (born February 15, 1960 in Reedsport, Oregon) is an American radio personality, author, and songwriter, best known as the host of a nationally syndicated nightly U.S. radio song request and dedication program, with an estimated 8 million listeners.[1] Although she first aired in the Seattle market as 'Delilah Rene', she in now known mononymously as Delilah."

Although the definition above would be true, I would add that I am a child of God, a happy wife, mother of 13, grandmother of 18, sister, aunt and blessed to have many wonderful friends and a loyal staff. I am the Founder of a non-profit named POINT HOPE, which cares for children in Ghana and foster children in the United States. When I am not spending time with my family and friends, I LOVE to garden, cook, ride horses, interact with my goats, cows, chickens, emus, pigs, zebra, ducks and geese, immerse myself in a wide variety of art projects and then, after I complete my show for the evening, I love to finish my day by hunkering down and snuggling with my children, a good book...or...both!!

I am very excited to have this opportunity to allow my cottage to be used for the enjoyment of all those who choose to enter in for the purpose of spending time away with their loved ones while on vacation...or celebrating a wedding, graduation, birthday or anniversary...or retreating with friends for a time of instruction, crafting or rest. I trust that you will spend your days enjoying every moment spent at the Bayview Beach Cottage, and that you will look forward to returning again one day soon!

Joni Sonneman purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Joni Sonneman chose Port Orchard

I am in love with the Puget Sound and built my (God-willing) "forever home" here in Port Orchard. I have lived in some very beautiful and unique areas of the country, but the Northwest is stunning in so many ways and has truly become my "home". The people here are warm and friendly, and I have developed lifetime friendships that mean the world to me. I realize that I am extremely blessed to have had this opportunity to purchase a waterfront cottage in this incredible place!

What makes this cottage unique

I chose this home and property because it captured my heart from the moment I laid eyes upon it. The first thing that stole my attention was obviously the wide open and AMAZING view of the Sinclair Inlet with the Olympic Mountains peaking over the Bremerton skyline...the sunsets over the water and behind the Olympics are breathtaking! When I walked up onto the huge wraparound porch and approached the large, hand-made door with hammered wrought iron hinges that stretch across the width of the door, I KNEW that there was something pretty special waiting for me just behind it...and I was right!! I entered into a beautiful room filled with hand-hewn logs cut from the property almost 100 years ago when the home was about CHARACTER and CHARM!! As I entered each room throughout the cottage, I fell deeper and deeper in love with this peaceful, beautiful, cozy cottage with incredible views...within 48 hours, the cottage was mine, and I am delighted to make it available for you to come and enjoy on your vacation holiday!

The bathroom in the downstairs office has a shower, as well, so there should be no long wait for a hot shower. (Although, we do have to admit that a standard tub/shower is not QUITE the same as a vintage clawfoot'll just have to make sure that you take turns with the tubs!)

Charming, spacious and great views

  • 5 of 5

This house was very comfortable for our group. Good beds & linens, a nice big kitchen to cook in and a gas grill. The front porch was where we spent most of our time so we could look out at the water, mountains and the ferry going by. It's an old house and the upstairs is quite creaky so you hear everything both upstairs and down when someone is walking on the 2nd floor. We were there for sunny weather and spent time down on the beach, and I would imagine the living room with a fire in the colder weather would be quite cozy. Joni was very communicative and met us at the house to show us everything. Very easy check-in and check-out! Overall a great place and stay!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We were staying in Port Orchard for a big family wedding so needed to find a house that was big enough to fit lots of family members but also warm enough to feel like home for a long, busy weekend. This stunning property completely delivered! Not only does it have lots of intimate spaces to entertain, relax and hang out but it is well equipped to host large dinners comfortably. The extra touches of having bicycles and a seaside fire place made it so special. Joni as a property manager is responsive and incredibly considerate. She has made the process of coordinating our stay so easy, there is no doubt in my mind that if we return to Port Orchard for anniversaries or christenings (!) we would stay at this beautiful, iconic American home. Thank you so much for the extra touches Joni - it was a weekend to treasure forever!

On a scale of 1 to 5 we would give our experience a 6. This was a wonderful substitute for our annual Cape Cod trip, complete w/Three quarter porch. Our host could not have been more gracious and welcoming. In fact we extended our stay an extra day and will be back again soon. - Mitch & Allison Lomax

Beautiful, but maybe not best for young kids or hot summers

  • 4 of 5

Your experience at this beautiful cottage will depend greatly on time of year and whom you're with! We were on a 3-generation trip with 6 adults, 4 kids, and one baby. Granny loved the decor, but we tried to set most of the delicate decorations and bowls of candy out of the kids's reach. ;)

Plenty of beds and tables, but no table big enough for all at once. Great porch for morning and patio/grill for evening. We loved the many tables in the main downstairs room: one for games, one for puzzles, etc. Netflix was great. Beds were comfortable (if squeaky), with plenty of soft bedding. The upstairs tub has a sit-down shower, and that sink has separate hot and cold taps, so there was only one modern bathroom, which most of the adults used. Plenty of towels and space to store all our toiletries!

The kitchen had plenty of dishes, appliances, and utensils, all in good condition, and a quality dishwasher (lots of small mugs, but we all fought over the only 3 large mugs ;) ). Filtered water dispenser was appreciated as tapwater has a slightly sulfuric odor (we drank a combined 10-15 cups of coffee/tea a day; would've been more in cool weather!).

Location was great. We were worried about the beach being across a road, but it wasn't a busy road, and the house is set back enough to feel private. It's a rocky, beachcombing-type beach. Check the tides! Super-low tide has lots to see, but high tide will drown the fire in the fire pit. ;) Drive to Port Orchard was short and easy, and we enjoyed their shops and farmers market. From there you can take a cheap foot ferry to Bremerton for more tourist/restaurant options, or drive around.

Unfortunately, we had HOT weather (90s). Cottage doesn't have air conditioning, and many of the windows don't open, so it didn't cool down before sunset. The beach has NO shade. Judging by the quilts, comforters, space heaters and fireplaces, guests don't usually worry about being hot. Having to open all the windows overnight dispelled the faint musty odor (not surprising in an old house).

Overall the house is clean, beautiful, and well-maintained. Joni was highly responsive, which is invaluable in my book, and we didn't have any problems other than the heat. I would stay there again, but maybe not with young kids, and I would hope to avoid the hottest weather.

The downtown corridor in Port Orchard is filled with quaint antique shops and consignment shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, historical sites and museums. Port Orchard is known locally for it's many festivals and events. Being that we are so close to the foot ferry, it is a quick and easy jaunt across the inlet to Bremerton where you will find even more wonderful restaurants and unique shops. Once you are on the Bremerton shore, you can walk a few yards and catch the Bremerton Ferry for a 1-hour trip across the Sound to Seattle for a day of shopping and fine dining on the Seattle Piers or at the famous Pike Place Market. If you are a Seahawks fan (and--let's be honest here--who isn't), you can plan your vacation around a Seahawks home game and catch a taxi or shuttle to CenturyLink Field directly from the Seattle Piers. We, in Port Orchard, have the wonderful advantage of being a small village directly in the center of everything...the Cascades, the Olympics, Hood Canal, Seattle, Gig Harbor...from where we are located, you can go almost anywhere!! Speaking of Gig Harbor, it would be well worth your time to go visit this beautiful Scandinavian fishing village located on the water where you will find wonderful restaurants, a deluxe movie theatre, kayaking, paddle boarding, quaint shops and much more! It has become quite the tourist destination in recent years!
