About Barbara Trolsen
Engage in southern hospitality with Rick and Barbara Trolsen in their historic Old Algier’s Pointe 1930’s craftsman cottage. Musicians will enjoy the sitting in with Rick Trolsen, trombonist/pianist/composer during his weekly Friday night gig at Old Point Bar, only a few blocks away. Rick, a gifted musician is usually performing nightly or daily. Algiers continues to be a home and haven for musicians, writers, artist, and snowbirds. A state of the art recording studio can be reserved in the neighborhood. Rick enjoys mentoring at jazz camp or hosting up-and-coming international proteges. Barbara’s creativity and candid knowledge of the New Orleans’ scene will keep you coming back. This amazing couple met and fell in love while working on the Mississippi Queen Riverboat sailing up and down the river from New Orleans to St. Paul Minnesota and have celebrated over thirty years of bliss traveling the world of music and friends and residing in New Orleans. Catch the amazing sunset, New Orleans skyline and the mighty Mississippi River with the locals on the levy directly across from Old Point Bar. You may borrow our bikes and enjoy miles of paths along the levy or walk to the historic Hubbell library. Ride the ferry over to New Orleans to the Canal Street outlet mall, Aquarium, Insectarium, Harrah’s Casino or take the streetcar to Café du Monde in the French Quarter or uptown to the Audubon Zoo, passing through the famous Garden District on St. Charles. Seldom do we endure any winter; the fire pit, porch and two decks are a charming retreat or opportunity to spur your creativity. With Rick and Barbara you will always capture a little something extra and his repertoire is much like gumbo, a blend of Western European, African, Caribbean and North and South Americas’ influences. Contact Rick or Barb to secure your vacation rental and you are guaranteed lagniappe and a gumbo of local cuisine, music, and art.

Why Barbara Trolsen chose Algiers Point
We've always dreamt of living in a quaint neighborhood just outside a big city. Well, our dream came true when we found Old Algiers. Young and old alike, family friendly, as well as plenty of "watering spots" in the neighborhood, and a venue that has music 5 night's a week, close to a recording studio with easy access to the French Quarter via a Ferry ride across the "Big Muddy Mississippi River".... Idyllic
What makes this Apartment unique
The people in our neighborhood are about as friendly as you would ever imagine! To walk up on the levy is a magical experience, giving you a picturesque view of Downtown New Orleans, the Riverboats, Cruise Ships and Freighters.

Fabulous location + inviting home makes for great trip!
I've never before felt compelled to write a review of a property, but this is a definite exception. It was EXACTLY what we look for when we travel - quiet place to sleep, easy access to all the touristy stuff, safe, walkable, great breakfast/coffee joint nearby, beautiful neighborhood, and helpful hosts, and loads of local charm!
My husband and I were traveling with our two children, ages 10 and 12, on a road trip from NC. The kids each got their own room and bed (the foldouts, which included soft toppers to make them super comfy), which keeps everyone happy on a multi-day trip. We ate breakfast every morning at the little café right across the way, though we could have easily whipped up something in the kitchen. None of us are bathroom hogs, so the single bathroom served us just fine.
Getting over the river was easy with a multi-day ferry pass (there's an app you can download for that so you don't have to keep up with money or paper tickets). The walk to the ferry was quick and easy, though Barbara's tip to walk in the street at night was right-on due to uneven sidewalks. Even walking home in the dark, it was completely safe and I'm pretty sure we never met a car on the road. While on the subject of transportation, parking was a breeze.
One thing we were pleasantly surprised by - most older houses have very low doorways, which is a pain for my 6'2" husband. This one didn't! No complaints about having to duck!
The back yard was magical. The children found great spots to read there. Later in the evening, we visited with Barbara, Rick, and their friends on the back porch.
Barbara could not have been more accommodating and inviting. One of her best ideas is to provide different types of pillows for the master bed - whatever type you want is there. That was a nice touch!
We happened to be there for Easter and were able to walk to a local church that Sunday morning. My daughter said she wished we could walk to church every morning :-) Speaking of the church, Algiers Methodist was incredibly relaxed and welcoming.
I feel like I'm rambling, but am trying to cover all the important stuff. Basically, you can't do better than this place/location/cost/vibe.
Algiers point
Right across from New Orleans by ferry. Owners are in other side of duplex if you need anything. Home is nicely furnished and lots of books, travel guides and menus.
Close to all the action... Great hosts.
I’m coming back because the location is perfect for the activities I want to engage in.
Charming home conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood with easy ferry access to New Orleans.
Barbara is an awesome hostess. She helped us get groceries (including a king cake). We had a blast at the Old Point Bar listening to Rick play jazz on the keyboards.
Beautiful, Comfortable and Welcoming stay
We had a beautiful, comfortable and welcoming stay. Barbara and Rick were very hospitable. Thank you Barbara for giving us a tour of the neighborhood and then taking us to the Grocery shops. We also enjoyed the easygoing nature of them with a few wines (even a few too many) out the back chatting.
The Algiers Point area has a very safe feel and a welcome change of pace to the New Orleans city. This location was easy to get to and from the City and as a family gave us the option to either get involved in the energy of the city or chill in the suburbs.
Thank you.

Wonderful
The owners are very nice and welcoming. This is a great location, walking distance to restaurant, bars and the ferry.
