About Jan or Bob

We are from Chicago and always vacationed in this lovely area of Michigan, a short drive from the city. Eventually we bought a second home & spent every weekend here enjoying the great beaches and lush green woods on this side of the lake. We are now here full time and love it! No traffic, beautiful sunsets, nature at it's finest as well as gourmet restaurants, an active art scene, every outdoor activity, great beaches and many interesting people. There is always something to do and every season brings it's special beauty.

Jan or Bob purchased this studio in 2006

Why Jan or Bob chose Harbert

We love it here & hope you do too! It feels like the country, yet a beach resort area and is just a short ride (1-1/2 hr) back to the big city.

What makes this studio unique

Location, location, to everything in a few minutes.

So conveniently located in the Heart of Harbor County.

Perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Needing a weekend away from Chicago’s hustle and bustle (and kids!) we just loved our time at Picasso’s hideaway. Perfect size with a wonderful little patio, beautifully decorated, with a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. We took advantage of the great location, with lunch at the Stray Dog, a late evening stop at Greenbush brewery and breakfast at Luisa’s. It was a cold, rainy weekend but it didn’t matter with the warm fireplace and fresh coffee in the morning. We were only sad we could not stay longer. We can’t wait to come back!

Not a hideaway

  • 1 of 5

The owners must mean hideaway as a joke because the property is located just a few feet from major artery US 12 (Red Arrow Highway) and across the street from from active train tracks. It’s an odd space that uses a former retail space/art gallery as housing. The cute decor and welcoming bottle of wine do not make up for the squishy mattress, shoddy plumbing and loud traffic noise. Also, lots farther than half a mile from the beach, as advertised, it’s about a one mile walk. ☹️

Owner's Response: Sorry these guests did not enjoy our loft like so many guests have, as evidenced by all the glowing reviews! We call it a hideaway because it is an end unit with a private patio overlooking a garden with pond & woods. The building is set back from Red Arrow & there is NO traffic noise at nite & only some at times during the day when most guests are out. Also, there are plantation blinds & blackout curtains and a partition wall. The train is heard everywhere in Harbor Country, is only very occasional, & is considered part of the "charm" of Harbor Country. The space is considered artistic & charming by most guests, the mattress is an extremely good pillowtop mattress which many guests have favorably commented on. Not sure what "shoddy plumbing" means. The bathroom is in excellent condition with a handcrafted walnut vanity & glass bowl, new plumbing & custom lighting. Harbert Beach is 7 blocks as mentioned on the site and in our Beach Directions left in the loft, unless you take the longer route or go to another township beach a mile away. Despite the fact that we prominently post both our cell numbers in the loft & invite guests to let us know of any concerns at any time day or nite, no calls were ever received from these guests. This, along with the totally inconsistent review score (1 star) causes us to question the sincerity of this review.

Very comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Nicely decorated, bed was great. Property is located on a highway and close to train track intersection so vehicle and train noise was a problem for me at night. Otherwise a great place.

Picasso's Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at this unique property with such fun decor...from the furniture to the wall hangings and especially the sink in the wood table. It was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. We were fortunate to see a great band and experience the rare Acorn Theater in Three Oaks. Thanks, Jan!
