Fantastic Stay at the Pink Fielding House

  • 5 of 5

This house is in a wonderful quiet location with views across to the ocean and the beach which is about 100m away. The house has got a huge amount of character and history and is very well equipped and very comfortable. My thanks to the owner Kendall who was very helpful during the booking process. Finding freshly fallen coconuts in the garden every morning was awesome. We had a very relaxing break and didn't want to leave. I would thoroughly recommend Kauai and the Fielding House.

Perfect for us- just as described

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay at the Kekaha property. It was just as described in the ad and shown in the pictures with the exception of a brand new refrigerator. The owner provided some really nice, thoughtful, extra touches such as leaving some hotel soaps and shampoos in each bathroom, some spices and seasonings in the kitchen and they even had the lights and ceiling fans on for us when we arrived. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us.

We just spent two weeks at Fielding House and have a mixed review. The cottage itself is comfortable but the location is not very desirable. Fielding House is located about 20 feet from a large power substation. You can constantly hear the buzzing of the power lines. A sugar mill is right behind the power substation. It is no longer in operation and we found it historically interesting though quite ugly to look at. There is also a bus station right in front of the house. You face it when you sit on the lanai. The bus does not come that often so it is not very intrusive. The view from the lanai is quite nice (except for the power lines) and peaceful. There is a lot of dog barking and howling by neighbours' dogs which can erupt anytime during the day or, worse, in the middle of the night. It woke us more than once. When we arrived just after midnight after a long flight the key to the cottage was not under the mat as we had been told. As a matter of fact, it was not to be found anywhere and we ended up climbing through the kitchen window to get in (which, fortunately, had been left open and we could easily remove the screens to get in). The owner provided the missing key as soon as we contacted her the following day. The cottage was clean except under the beds. We even found clothes from previous vacationers there. It was very dusty on top of the kitchen cupboards with spider webs and dead insects. The fridge door has rust spots all over it but the fridge was clean on the inside. The washer and dryer worked but the top of the dryer is very rusty so don't put your wet clothes on it. The bathtub drains very slowly. There are no hooks in the bathroom or kitchen so you have to improvise when it comes to hanging towels, etc. There were also not enough spoons for four. The beach close to the cottage is a long, narrow, steep strip of sand and boulders. You can walk to Kekaha Beach, but it is not a great beach, very small, quite a bit of garbage and unsafe for swimming. I would not recommend this property to a friend or relative.
