Lovely spot, but could feel cozier.

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Doonbeg. It was a good location, with lots to see and do, even in the cool shoulder season. The house was well kept, and well equipped with all conveniences, and the owners were considerate and helpful in answering all our questions, and providing useful tips and instructions regarding the appliances and the nearest places of interest and of course where to pick up provisions.

Our single caveat was the furnishing of the main living room. Half of it was barely furnished at all. Although the house is located with a view of the bay and river, these views are only available when one is standing up. Aseat, the view is primarily of the grey, bare retaining walls. Perhaps in the summer, with bluer skies and seas this wouldn't be an issue, but when the skies and sea are grey in the shoulder season, the view of the walls is dreary, and one longs for a cozier interior. It was too bad that more effort wasn't put into the furnishings and decor. One huge mitigating bonus is the peat fireplace, with a generous supply of peat. In the evening we turned off the lights, lit the fire, and pulled our seats in front of it, and forgot about the rest of the room completely.

Lovely cosy holiday home

  • 5 of 5

I visited this holiday home with friends who were staying there- it was so cosy. We were able to cook a delicious dinner, chat and relax in the dining area, and then sit around a toasty turf Fire. It was so peaceful, in the early morning I could here the curlews calling on the beach across the road. After a very pleasant stay I had to leave after breakfast- the sunrise was spectacular, pink and blue. It was absolutely beautiful, and such a restful and unspoilt location. I will definitely be back! There's plenty of room for a group of friends or a family group, and the decor is fresh and stylish.

A little patch of Heaven in Doonbeg

  • 5 of 5

Talk about a wonderful location to relax and unwind. Beautiful sea views and your own personal seal stretching out on the opposite bank. The only sounds you will hear are the occasional seagull, unless of course you want to visit the magnificent nearby golf course, nearby village for their drama festival or Irish music, or surf or fish on Doughmore Beach. If you want to escape from the stress of daily life, this cottage has it all. Stylishly but simply decorated with wooden ceilings, white brick walls and carpeted throughout, this is a home away from home. Cosy open fire for cool evenings and all mod cos in the kitchen. Spotlessly clean, I've been coming here for the past 10 years and no matter whether it is Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter it never disappoints. A sanctuary where my batteries get recharged. You won't regret your decision to stay here.

Great home from home

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little bungalow, fantastic views and an easy walk to the local village. Handy to other local attractions. We brought three small children and it suited them perfectly with a garden, facilities to eat outside, and a child friendly interior. Cosy, homely and clean the open fire is a gift, living area is generous, conservatory is a real treat to sit in and watch the world go by. Owners are very friendly and easy to chat to. If we were to go to that part of the country again we would definitely go back to the same house. No hesitation in recommending.

Mooi ruim huis, persoonlijk ontvangst en vertrek.

  • 4 of 5

Super!

A great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

It was definitely a good decision to choose this location for our September holidays. It is a quiet place and therefore very good to relax. The cottage is also beautifully situated and offers loveley views of the ocean and beach nearby. We spent many hours sitting in the cosy conservatory to read or observe all kinds of sea birds searching for food when the tide is out (binoculars are recommended). We often went for long walks along the coast or went to the village nearby to have a drink in one of the pubs or had dinner in one of the three restaurants. To go shopping we went to Kilkee which is larger than Doonbeg, has several super markets and offers the chance for a phantastic walk along the cliffs of Kilkee. Don’t forget to visit Diamonds Rocks Café afterwards. Kilkee also has a Medical Centre with a very helpful staff if you need to see a doctor. On cool evenings we enjoyed lighting a fire in the open fire place. The weather was fairly good throughout our holidays: much sun and only one rainy day. Since there is no air or light pollution in the area we had the chance to see millions of stars in the Milky Way, many, many more than we can see at home in Germany. Thanks to Eamon, the owner, who came to see us on a Sunday morning and took us to the sea to fish mackerels which we enjoyed preparing in the oven later that day. Overall, the cottage is a great place for folks looking for comfort, beauty and calm.

Our house at Doonbeg overlooks the Doonbeg river and and beach. The house is about a half mile from the village of Doonbeg ,which has 2 shops and 5 pubs, and 3 restaurants. The shops are only local stores but the larger supermarkets are 9 miles away in Kilrush.Traditional music is played in the pubs and times and dates will be posted in pub windows or at the local community centre.

There are many tourist attractions in the area - the spectacular Cliffs of Mohair, the Loop head drive with its lighthouse and the Bridges of Ross. You can reach the Burren and Galway in a days excursion and even take the Killimer car ferry across the Shannon and tour Kerry.

The local towns along the coast of Kilkee, with its Cliff walk and horseshoe shaped bay ,Lahinch with a spectacular beach for surfers, and Kilrush, a market town with marina and ferry to Scattery island and dolphin watch boat trips.

There are many golf courses from the from the Trump International linx course, the championship course at Lahinch, to the local courses at Kilrush and Kilkee.

All along the local coast are bays and beaches and scenic view points.
