About Pat Vaughn
The property owners, Gary and Tula Crumpton, have graciously allowed Buffalo Mountain Getaway the opportunity to manage their rental. They are an amazing couple and have traveled all over the world doing mission work. Be sure an take a look at the global map and all the push pins that represent their travels. In a word, "Amazing!"
Pat Vaughn purchased this Lodge in 2000
Why Pat Vaughn chose Meadows of Dan
This is the most tranquil location you could ask for. There is a tall dead tree just off the cliff. When asked why they didn't cut it down we were told that it is entertaining to watch the birds perch and chatter. Personally, I want to lay in the hammock with a book for about a week. Just to listen to the sounds of the woods and enjoy the breeze is heaven to my hears.
What makes this Lodge unique
Located above the lands of Primland Resort, the Wild Cat Knob is the perfect place to stay. Our motto, "Stay here, play there!" Why pay $300-600 per night to stay there when you can pay less than $200 and stay with us. You'd have more room, more privacy and a much more enjoyable stay. Hope to see you soon!

Perfect mountain getaway!
This place is just as awesome as everyone else has said - perhaps even better! The peacefulness and solitude was wonderful, the hot tub a delight, especially since it was added after we booked, and the front porch a great place to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature - not road noise! It's roomy, lots of storage, and the kitchen was overall well appointed and very functional. We usually choose a new location to book each fall, but this one is calling us back!
Beautiful cabin in a remote location. The cabin was very comfortable. Where the cabin is located there is always a breeze coming up the mountain. If you are looking to get away from it all this is the spot.
Nice Secluded Cabin With Excellent View
The cabin was very nice and well equipped. If you are looking for peace and quiet close to the Blue Ridge Parkway we would recommend this property. Although secluded, it is fairly close to the Mabry Mill, Meadows of Dan and Chateau Morrisette Winery. The town of Floyd, which has a Food Lion, is a little farther away but still an easy drive. Everywhere we went the people were extremely friendly and helpful.
We would echo others who have suggested bringing at least some groceries and trying to arrive before dark. Once you've driven the driveway a time or two it's not too bad, but it is long and winding through the woods.
We spent a lot of time on the porch just sitting and enjoying nature and the view. The porch swing was fantastic.
The owners are very accessible and respond to any questions promptly. We hope to return soon.
If you like solitude and quiet to hear yourself think, this is the place for you!
We met 1/2 way between our homes to plan a fall excursion to the New England states. The Vaughn's cabin was so comfortable as well as unique. There were interesting antiques and maps to spend time perusing. We enjoyed cooking on the grill out in the yard. It sort of felt like camping. We all had a fabulous time and didn't want to leave. The Vaughn's were just a phone call away if needed. We would LOVE to return for a longer stay and some time to explore God's beautiful landscape. Party of: Baskin-Jones/Jackson
Amazing View, rustic comfort, friendly people
The Wild Cat Knob Lodge is an amazing place to stay! We were in love with the cabin's beauty and the decor was so charming. The upstairs bench that oversees the mountain view was such a fun place for our girls to play. We packed all our groceries before getting there but I forgot the flour for my popular pancake recipe. Thank goodness the small town in Meadows of Dan had local flour that was so perfect and so much better than the popular brands, it really made my pancakes so much more enjoyable. We visited the Mill and the small town of Floyd. Everyone was so friendly and the views that we saw were breathtaking. We never saw the rental owners/managers which made it feel like the place was ours. We didn't want to leave.
The only flaws that I can point out was that the tub upstairs was not useful as the cold water knob was not working and the hot water was scalding hot. My husband had to use a multi tool to turn the cold knob on. The oven was very difficult to operate as the display was not working. There are two ovens in the cabin and the lower oven did not turn on at all. The propane grill was also not working properly, the flame was very dim even on the highest setting.
We loved that the cabin was stocked with everything you could think of to include board games. Overall we had a great time and we loved the swing on the porch.
Thanks again for your feedback. We have replaced the faucet on the clawfoot tub and repaired the ovens. Thanks for letting us know.
Such a great family vacation!
This year my family and I vacationed in a new location. We were a little out of our element being so secluded but adapted quickly and didn't want to leave this beautiful place. Let me start off by saying, the cabin was very clean! It felt like a home, not a rental. The kitchen was well stocked, had many upgrades and all the rooms were super comfy. One of our family's favorite places was the window seat in the upstairs loft. We drank hot cocoa and coffee there each morning and just took in the beautiful scenery. The master shower was another great feature due to the double shower heads and really hot water. It was a great way to relax after our busy days. The property is located down a secluded gravel road and we had plenty of privacy. Up the road, the owners were kind enough to check on us when they discovered 2 bears on their property. They were far enough away for plenty of privacy but close enough if we needed help.
The town is really small so we chose to venture out daily to sightsee. We visited Floyd, Stuart and Roanoke VA. We also took a day trip to Mt. Airy, NC to visit Mayberry. One of our best days was spent horseback riding near Christiansburg, VA at Skyline Stables. If you stay here you must look them up and contact JD. We had a blast! Larger cities were about an hour away in each direction so there was plenty to do. By the end of our stay, I wished for one more day to just relax and enjoy the cabin.
Some suggestions I would make for your stay is to gather your supplies before you get there, try to arrive during daylight (it got dark around 5:30pm and the road was scary until we got used to it), when a description says secluded.......it really is secluded! :) Everything about our stay was perfect and we would recommend this beautiful home to all of our friends! Pat and the home owners communicated well and were very accommodating. It's gonna be hard to top our first VRBO experience.
