Hi, My name is Barbara, I currently live and grew up in Seattle where my family resides. Having spent the early days of my career in N.Y. Diamond District, I developed skills as a designer/ Goldsmith.
I now divide my time between making and selling unique jewelry to teaching Elementary kids with special needs and dancing Tango. I live a full and rewarding life.
Barbara Gannis purchased this house in 2006
I chose this property because it was like a doll house to me, perfectly suited for an artists retreat. I had never seen anything like it in San Miguel and my friends were ready to buy if I didn't. The location is unsurpassed!
As mentioned, you are literally a few doors from Cafe Zenento which serves the best Mexican coffee coming from Veracruz . I don't know about you, but good quality coffee is a must for me!
This property was originally owned by a family who sold firewood from their living room. As I understand it, they lived in the one room with the firewood! An outdoor kitchen and bathroom were the only other rooms. There was a courtyard and arched entryway which were walled over when the house was renovated. There is a tiny door left intact off the living room which adds to the historical charm.
This was a last minute get-a-way for the Thanksgiving holiday and we were thrilled to stay at Casa Vadra. The home is in a terrific location, just blocks from the Perroquia and central Jardin, many delicious restaurants within walking distance, a fun night club just around the corner and a sweet coffee shop three doors down. A typical morning would find us on the rooftop enjoying coffee and fresh baked pastries soaking up the sunshine before we headed out for a day of exploring SMA. The house manager responded quickly to each of our questions and concerns, he was also a wealth of information for local sites, events and restaurants. One of the best aspects of this home was being able to stay in a neighborhood and experience the town as a resident would. The neighbors were kind and welcoming. Staying at Casa Vadra was like visiting the home of an eccentric relative.
We stayed at Casa Vadra for two weeks in late August. The home was authentic and open. It was perfect for myself and my girlfriend. We enjoyed the house and the upstairs patio was great for morning coffee and had a view of the Cathedral. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our meals when we weren't taking short walks to the local eateries and the really cool coffee shop right on the corner. The house is centrally located so we felt we could walk quickly to the local establishments and mercados. The house was clean, well organized and gave us the flavor of Mexico.
Perfect house for two people with an ideal location within minutes of the Parroquia. And when you've had enough - the walk is back is pleasantly all downhill. Two bathrooms so each guest can spread out and have their own bath and closet. Two terraces for sunny outdoor time. Adorable kitchen with coffeemaker (which is all we used) because there are great restaurants within 5 minute walk. 24 hour pharmacy is 3 blocks away. Taxis nearby without feeling were on a busy street and the bells in the distance where they belong. Beautifully furnished and great bed. WiFi works even on terrace. Spotless housekeeping which is always a relief. Clear directions on how to operate the house in entry. Quick to respond and charming owner. Now we don't have the urge to buy - we can try and return to Casa Vadra on future visits.
My husband & I spent a wonderful week in San Miguel at a great spot called Casa Vadra.
This very spacious 2 level casa has all that you need. Although we did not do any cooking the kitchen was fully operational, even a few extras like spices & teas.
The upstairs bedroom has lots of room and it steps up to 1 of 2 roof top balconys with spectacular views. A beautiful sunny spot for morning coffee while you plan your day in this great area. Coffee place on the corner & Cafe Monet for breakfast just a few min away. It is very quiet and away from foot traffic. Felt very safe. It is walking distance to everything and taxis are inexpensive and everywhere.
Barbara is very responsive to emails and knows the area very well.
Thanks for sharing your home.
I recently stayed at the Casa Vadra and was so pleased with the location, artsy style, and authentic Mexican feel, and it's surprizingly quiet for beng so central! The elegant churches, parks, boutiques and restaurants are all in easy walking distance. I loved the view of cobblestone streets and colonial buildings from the roof terrace. I definitely recommend the Casa Vadra!
This was a very charming little place to stay in the heart of the action, a short walk to the Jardin and center of town, also a park - Parke Juarez - within blocks. The owner was very helpful and takes a lot of pride in her place and the young Mexican woman who works for her was very accommodating The time I was there I had no issue at all with anything, and particularly appreciated the cozy and functional kitchen. I would recommend this for any single person or couple who want to feel a part of the town for their stay and not like guests in a hotel.
