About the property

Troutsdale Farm

Homemade CREAM TEA ON ARRIVAL .... for remaining dates in JULY and AUGUST in Old Shire Stables Cottage - please request when booking - Thank you!

At Troutsdale Farm there are 2 AWARD WINNING Eco barn conversions on the family farm in a quiet location, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, by Tittesworth Reservoir. Fully renovated by the owners with care and attention to detail, Troutsdale Farm offers quality accommodation of real character and charm and seamlessly combines all the old original features to still give a 'barn feel' with modern design and home comforts that make them ideal for family get-togethers. There are well equipped kitchens, hand crafted from oak with double belfast sinks, with large dining tables (seating 6 and 10). Both have spacious sitting areas with Clear view log burning stoves, flat screen TV and DVD player. There are en suites in both properties and exposed original beams, stone and brickwork and solid oak flooring on the 1st and 2nd floors. There is off road car parking and an enclosed garden area, ideal for sitting out and barbecues. Doorstep footpaths lead to circular nature trail

Ater winning the 'MOST ECO-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY LET' category in the 'Fields of Opportunity' national competition and then went on to become the OVERALL WINNER out of all 5 categories

The greener features of the barn are carefully incorporated so that you hardly know they are there and require no expertise or knowledge. Central heating comes from the ground source heat pump and solar panels. Rainwater harvesting system works for all grey water. . Timbers replaced in the conversions were cut from local woods, and we have planted 20 acres of new woodland. The traditional lime plastered walls are painted in Earthbourne natural Clay paint, the windows are all made from wood and painted with organic linseed oil paints, Sheepswool insulation is used throughout the building, and natural clay aggregate forms the floor insulation in the limestone floor.

There are 4 herb borders from which guests can enjoy and pick their own herbs.

Both properties have been inspected by VISIT ENGLANDS TOURIST BOARD ACCOMMODATION GRADING SCHEME and have been awarded 4 STARS as well as a coveted GOLD AWARD

The 2 properties can be booked seperately (sleeping either up to 6(or 8 with sofa bed) and 10 + cots) or can be booked together sleeping up to a total of 16/18 + cots.

Due to the type of property and location both properties are not suitable for what is known as 'house party venue' or for 'louder' hen or stag parties - we can recommed other nearby places if you are after this type of accommodation

Payment for the booking will be arranged when we confirm your booking - with deposit requirement & full terms and conditions

Warm welcome and a wonderful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place - really comfortable with everything we needed (we were there with daughter and son-in-law and a two year old). When we arrived we got such a lovely welcome with all the information we needed plus fresh flowers and a freshly baked cake!! We were impressed with the attention to detail that has gone into this place, things like a good quality dishwasher and fridge, a fully equipped laundry room, nice crockery and bedding, toys and games provided plus much more and a fabulous view! We would definitely recommend this place - especially for families with children.

Great location, superb conversion, a little cold for Febraury

  • 4 of 5

We experienced a warm welcome and it proved to be a great property for kids to run around. Loved seeing the sheep and feeding the hens. But we did find it rather cold.

Superb mini break to celebrate my 30th.

  • 5 of 5

Booked to stay for three nights in The Old Cartshed over my birthday weekend to celebrate with family and friends.

On arrival, Barbara met us at the cottage with an open fire glowing in the lounge, homemade birthday cake and balloons in the kitchen!

We spent the days exploring the local country side, going into Leek which is a lovely quaint town or trying the local beer and hot chcoclate in The Lazy Trout pub just down the road.

The Cottage is so well equipped, so some evenings we cooked, another we went to the Three Horseshoes pub which had great, homely pub grub food.

There were eight of us and we all had the best time- hard not to with good food, good wine and an open fire!

Barbara topped it off though with the little touches and made us all so welcome.

A thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing & memorable birthday, cannot recommended enough!!

Thank you Barbara & family.

Stunning property in a beautiful rural location

  • 5 of 5

A very warm welcome to a beautiful, spotlessly clean, well equipped property. We would thoroughly recommend staying here and couldn't fault Barbara and her family. There is masses to do in the surrounding area regardless of weather. We will be returning.

Beautiful and idyllic - would definitely visit again

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful barn set in an idyllic place overlooking a reservoir. The lovely pub up the road, the Three Horseshoes, served delicious food and well priced drinks. It's a bit of a trek (about 1.2 miles and not much pavement to walk on - take a torch if dark), but it was worth it. The owners at the barn, who live locally, really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The history of the barn itself is available to visitors to read about for those who are interested, and the addition of wifi is helpful due to the intermittent phone signal. Would definitely visit again.

Owner's Response: Great to see you had such a lovely stay with us - with a winter break at the beginning of January. I know you said how much you had enjoyed the superb spa facilities at the nearby Three Horseshoes County Inn and it was great to be able to get some good food after your spa treatments. We are very lucky in this beautiful Peak District countryside to have such excellent facilities so close by (for the countryside!) - from the door of our cottages it is only just under 1/2 a mile along our private tarmac drive, and then just under 1/2 a mile across the main road which has a footpath. Or you can also get to it by footpaths from the cottages going in a different direction and we were just wondering if you perhaps went via this route which is fields footpaths and then a minor road with no footpath, way which seem a bit more of trek in January and when nights go darker so much quicker - and we do have flash lights in the property for guests use! We did have a few issues with the EE/Orange mobile phone mast for everyone in the area at one point - but this has now been mended thank goodness but glad to hear the free Wifi was working. We look forward to welcoming you back for another winter break with our cosy log fire, great Peak District views and good local pubs.
