Why Darron and Kim Shatley chose East

We purchased this cabin because we LOVE the great location!!! You can be in the center of everything if you want within 5 minutes or you can stay secluded in the mountains if you chose to do that too. Located in the Alpine Mountain Village Resort, which offers privacy, convenience and 2 community pools, picnic shelter and playground. The Pigeon Forge area offers such a wide variety of things to do. From hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with its awesome vistas, to visiting one of the many live shows, to shopping at any of the wonderful outlet stores in search of that great bargain we are always able to find something to keep us busy no matter what the season. When we decided to purchase a cabin we looked at dozens of cabins but always migrated back to this area. Also another reason is where our cabin is located on a private cul-da-sac, our two small children can run and play outside for hours. Our family loves this cabin and we think your family will too! In the end, it was an easy decision.

What makes this cabin unique

If you want privacy, comfort and a convenient location, then Lookout Bear is perfect for you. Of our two cabins, Lookout Bear is where we prefer to stay when we're here with another family with kids or my parents who are in their late 60's/early 70's. It's only a 2 minute drive to the Parkway at traffic light #1 in Pigeon Forge. Since we purchased in 2011, we have replaced all the appliances in the kitchen, new furniture, updated all the electronics, renamed it Lookout Bear, and given it our own style. We are always updating and adding amenities, especially things that give it more luxury and make it more family friendly. I love the kitchen for making meals at the cabin, the WIFI for checking emails, the spacious bedrooms and the private covered porches, the 2 community pools – with 1 just behind the cabin, the private hot tub, and the feeling that you're up in a tree house looking out to the mountains through the trees. It's so private and peaceful. It truly can't get any better than this!

Great location, excellent cabin, owners easy to work with.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location and easy to drive to. For the most part the cabin was very clean. Living room mantel and tv area needed dusting. Everything worked as it should. The info book said that the hot tub instructions were on the wall by the hot tub but they were not there. From the main floor bedroom we could hear the hot tub running all the time. It rarely shut off. Not sure if this is normal. Could use a couple more rocking chairs on the deck and maybe a table. Would have liked to play pool but the cue sticks did not have the felt tips on them. Kitchen supplies were very good but you need to add measuring cups. We needed to check on staying another night and Darron was very helpful with that. We did stay the extra day and had a wonderful time. The only other complaint that we had was a couple of nights there was loud music and partying from the pool area until 11:00 pm. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you to Darron and Kim for allowing us to rent your home.

Great Cabin, we were able to check in early, which was very nice!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and enjoyed the cabin. The cabin was roomy enough for us to host dinner every night for the baseball team. There's only one thing I would suggest, there are not enough kitchen utensils and pots provided. We cooked food, froze it and brought it with us. We did not have big enough pots to warm our food up and cook spaghetti and fettuccini We had to borrow crock pots, regular pots, serving spoons and measuring cup from other cabins (luckily we were there with a baseball team and we knew people staying in other cabins). Kim and Darron, I would just suggest adding additional pots and serving utensils.

Also, there is a yellow jacket nest in the grass/garden around the tree and cabin sign. Since we had children going in and out playing in the cul-de-sac my dad tried to kill them but they beat him every day (lol, but he was entertaining).

Other than these two thing the cabin was perfect, we would definitely stay here again.

Some of the owners responses and service were lacking.

  • 2 of 5

The overall location of the prooerty is nice, and the cabin comfortable. We did arrive early and the cabin wasn't ready. (I had asked the owners what the check in time and process were twice before we arrived. I was only given the code for entry and no other details.) We left and found plenty to do. I received a text and e mail almost immediately from the owner, stating the check in time of 4pm. When we arrived at the cabin at 3:40 it was cleaned, however, whatever they used on the floor left it incredibly sticky. The entire main floor. I ended up washing it with paper towels. We found the kitchen materials lacking, there were no trash bags or liquid dish soap as stated on the list of items provided. We also dealt several issues during our stay, including ants in one of the beds, and no power in the main floor bedroom. The owner did send pest control, however there were still ants. The owners responses were very not very timely or cordial.

We did understand that there was no garbage pick up during our stay as per the agreement, however, the cans were nearly full when arrived. The owners suggestion was to leave our trash in the cabin. They did pick them up after I expressed that they were full upon arrival.

Overall, we were disappointed that our stay wasn't we had hoped it would be. Pigeon Forge is a beautiful area with tons of fun family activities.

Owner's Response: 4PM Check-in time is clearly stated on the Guest Reservation Confirmation. Beth M arrived at the cabin 4 hours early prior to check-in time. I feel this is the cause and reason for this poor review. Even though the Cleaning Company informed Beth M that check-in time was 4PM, Beth M and her guests entered the cabin at Noon -- which disrupted the cleaning company and they felt rushed to finish cleaning the cabin. Even though I contacted Beth M. asking them not to check-in until 4PM. Beth M checked-in at 3:30 -- 30 min early. I use a local Licensed and Insured Cleaning Company and Pest Control Company. When each reservation is confirmed, my phone number is provided. Any Guest can call me any time with questions or information. My VRBO response time iis very quick. When Beth M contacted me, my response time to her was only a few minutes. And both the Cleaning Company and Pest Control Company went to the cabin to resolve the issue. I had the cabin treated in June with my regular scheduled Pest Control Service. I was informed by Pest Control Company that tree limbs overhanging or touching the cabin is the source of the ants. HOA is responsible for maintaining the landscape and trees in the Resort. The HOA has trimmed and/or removed the trees overhanging or touching the cabin. I have completed all recommendations by the Pest Control Company to the resolve the issue.

An Amazing Property

  • 5 of 5

If you are searching for a place near all the action of Pigeon Forge and yet want quiet, wide open space to rest and relax, then this rental is for you. We, along with our grown children and their families enjoyed a lovely vacation in this grand home. Each family had their own floor, with nice size bedrooms, huge bathrooms with jetted tubs .Even a loft, overlooking the great room.(grandson felt like he was in a tree house.) To top it all off, all three floors have spacious decks complete with rocking chairs. We have already recommended this property to our friends..
