The Magpie House on 8th Street was built in 1910, not many years after the town of Livingston was founded. A bungalow style home retaining much of the charm of the era with modern amenities make the home a comfortable retreat. Nestled in one of the coveted areas of Livingston, the home is 6 beautiful short blocks away from Livingston's historic, eclectic, and artsy downtown and 2 blocks from the Yellowstone River and various parks that stretch along it. It's nearly impossible to visit and not fall in love with the Livingston community. Livingston is a town that grew up with the railroad - which means most all of town can be explored on foot (or the cruiser bikes which we provide for our guests)!
The Magpie House is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home with an open Living Room and Dining Room, updated kitchen and front porch. There is a smart TV, basic channels, and WiFi throughout the house. The property is fully fenced with a charming patio for grilling and relaxing in the mornings or evenings. The home is on a quiet street with large trees and sidewalks that lead you to the beauty of the River or the energy of one of the West's greatest secrets- Livingston downtown.
It's an ideal home/backdrop for a reunion, family vacation, or romantic getaway. Hardwood floors, high ceilings, historic details, and new and comfortable furniture finish invite you to kick up your feet and stay.
As you walk through the living room of the home and past the newly renovated bathroom you come to a room with a bunk bed with 2 full mattresses and closet.
As you keep going you step into an oversized "master" with a queen bed, desk, dresser, closet and doors to walk out to the private backyard.
The Living Room has a couch that converts to a single bed for extra sleeping. There is also an additional high quality aero-bed blow up mattress that can be used for extra sleeping.
The Kitchen has stainless steel appliances as well as many small appliances available including microwave and coffee maker. All cooking utensils, cookware, flatware, plates etc are available for your use. The owners love to cook and eat well, so it is stocked for any creative chef out there!
The downstairs has a laundry room with a stack washer / dryer and extra cleaning supplies.
The home is designed to be a place of tranquility and simplicity. Everything you need and nothing that you don't. Books, wildlife and local guide books, family games, and cards are supplied for entertainment. We are certain you will stay busy exploring the parks, eating good food, watching for wildlife and dancing the night away to local music downtown.
The fully fenced backyard has grassy areas and landscaping, electric grill, and outdoor dining table and chairs.
Livingston is always vibrant but is especially alive in the summer time with various festivals, rodeos, nightly music choices and more! Critically acclaimed restaurants line the neon-lit downtown area with choices from local farmed lamb to brick oven bakeries to Chinese to good ol' Montana fall-off-the-bone ribs. Various bands from all over the country liven up the night giving listeners a choice of what music they'd like to listen or dance to. Two live theaters, casinos, movie house, and bowling alley add to the nightlife options.
Daytime activities include shopping at many of the boutique and specialty shops downtown, some with history back to the 1930's. Recreationally, there are endless hiking/biking opportunities in the Livingston Area, as well as world-renowned flyfishing, adding to one of the many reasons that Livingston is also headquarters to the International Fly Fishing Federation. Swimming, golf course, art galleries and museums prove that there is something for everyone in Livingston.
The Magpie House is in very close proximity to many other attractions beyond the city limits. Only 45 minutes from the main entrance of Yellowstone National Park, it's no wonder that Livingston is called the original gateway to Yellowstone. Livingston is surrounded by m
