About Sarah van der Helm
We grew up in Oklahoma, and met each other while attending OSU in 1992. Both of us have always loved going to Colorado on vacation. In 2008 we moved to the Denver area. Spending time outdoors is something we love. Dick enjoys mountain biking and we both enjoy the beautiful hiking trails. In the winter we stay busy with all of the fun activities. We love watching wildlife.
Sarah van der Helm purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Sarah van der Helm chose Valley of the Blue
We fell in love with the charm of the house. The house has a grand, welcoming exterior. The front yard gets enough sun so I can plant a large flower garden. Having an outdoor hot tub on the private back deck is something we really enjoy. It is so relaxing to soak in the water while outside looking at the trees or at night gazing at the stars.
What makes this Cabin unique
The house backs up to a small seasonal creek where animals wander up for a drink. We love seeing all of the wildlife around this home.

Great house & location!
House was perfect for our group. We had 4 adults and 4 kids staying there. Drive into Breckenridge was quick and easy. We had a great time!!
My wife and I went to relax and get away from Dallas. The place was very comfortable, had a lot of nice touches, and it was very clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the place, and we will definitely consider staying again. It is about a mile from a McCullough Gulch trail head, and about 15 miles to the Hoosier Pass Loop along the Continental Divide. It is about ten miles from the town of Breckenridge.
The house was great
The house was charming and very comfortable. We felt very relaxed in the house. Everything worked properly and was very clean.
Perfect home in a perfect location
My husband, our two dogs, and I stayed here for 3 nights. We absolutely loved our stay in this comfortable, clean, homey and spacious house. Master bedroom was huge, the bed super comfy and the master bath with a huge walk in shower and jetted tub was amazing. There were two other bedrooms which could accommodate another couple or a bigger family....we are already thinking of returning here with our extended family or friends in the future.
The outdoor space was perfect with a big hot tub and plenty of seating outside. Good amount of space for our dogs to run around. We sat outside in the mornings with our coffee...such a peaceful treat.
The neighborhood itself was quiet. There were lots of surrounding properties but they seemed well spaced out and not too crowded. We took lots of walks with our pups and the few people we met were super friendly.
Finally, the location was just perfect. Far enough from Breck that you can get away from the tourist crowd but drive into town was only about 10 min, We were very close to some awesome hiking trails, including the TH to Mt. Quandary! So nice to be able to tackle a 14er without waking up at 3am to get to the TH!
Thank you for everything, Sarah! We hope to return very soon!
Wonderful place to stay, better than the pics can show!
Trip cut short due to winter storm in April
The house is beautiful and nicely located however we went at a less than ideal Time and definitely needed a different vehicle. It took about 8 tries to get up the driveway. Our minivan is too low on the bottom for the snow piled up on the driveway. We ended up getting stuck at the end of the street after the Husband went to get us food. We went and rented a 4 wheel drive after we rescued our van and made it up just fine thereafter. Then a winter storm threatened the remaining days and because we have to leave town going uphill, we decided we better head out before the storm hit. Sarah was in constant contact with us and helping us to navigate the situation. We hope to return either with a better suited vehicle or a different time of year. The house had lots of supplies on hand which was really helpful.
