About Kate,

Hi, we're Andrew & Kate.

We moved to Saugatuck in 1991, fell in love with the town, and have lived here full-time ever since. We bought the Red House in 1992 and lived there until 2006, spending the first five years on major renovations. When we moved (a few blocks away) in 2006 we couldn't give up the house, so now it's a vacation rental! We have one son, who attends the local high school.

Kate, purchased this house in 1992

Why Kate, chose Southwest

We've lived in Saugatuck full-time since 1991. We love the people here, the charming downtown, great shops and restaurants, and the breathtaking coastline. We enjoy boating, Oval Beach, music in the park, art galleries, special events, and just taking in everything Saugatuck has to offer. We often go a whole weekend without getting in a car, since we can walk or bike wherever we want to go. Saugatuck can be what you want it to be: relaxing, friendly, laid-back; a party town; a mecca for the arts; a nature-lover's paradise; and family-friendly.

What makes this house unique

Renters tell us they love the convenient location (walk to town, but quiet) and the casual, comfortable feel of the house. A first-floor queen bed and full bath is ideal for folks who have trouble with stairs. Kids love the play area. (The house sits on an oversized lot back from the street, making it safer for little ones.) Pet owners appreciate being able to bring their dogs (with permission).

Our family and dogs really enjoyed staying at the Red House. It was roomy and comfortable for all of us. Really appreciated that the basic amenities such as soap and TP was provided. Loved the short walk into downtown Saugatuck!

Hello 2017 from the Red House

  • 5 of 5

We again celebrated the New Year in the Red House. We obviously enjoyed ourselves so much last year we decided to do it again. The house simply fit our family. It was clean, warm and ready for our stay. The location is wonderful - we took many walks through town and along Oval Beach. A cold but wonderful time as a family. Thank you Kate for your prompt replies - Happy 2017!!

Great weekend getaway for eight!

  • 5 of 5

Our group stayed for a Friday and Saturday night in November and thoroughly enjoyed The Red House. The house is cozy and unique with everything we needed to make ourselves at home. The location allowed us to walk downtown for dinner, drinks, and shopping. Kate made our checkin and checkout super easy and included tons of information about the house and the area. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Saugatuck, especially if you're traveling with a group of 6 or 8.

Perfect stay in beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience at The Red House was, in a word, perfect. The house was exactly as described and we really enjoyed our stay. Kitchen well stocked, nice out door area, close to town for walking, close enough that we were also able to have a nice run out to the lake through Douglas. Kate was also most helpful and extremely responsive when I had questions. Even was able to help us out of a jam when we needed a few bikes. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a weekend away in beautiful Saugatuck or Douglas. We very much enjoyed and hope to be back! Thanks for everything !!

Quaint, clean, comfortable cottage in quiet neighborhood.

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Red House with my sisters and their husbands. The beds were comfortable, and we made use of all 4 bedrooms. We appreciated the hardwood floors (no carpeting), the artwork and the cottage-like decor. There was plenty of room for all 4 couples to sit at the dining table and the living room is cozy and comfortable. We loved the front porch, but did not use the small patio, as we could not all fit around it, and there was no fire pit. The kitchen was as described, with a very nice dishwasher and a good coffee pot. The bathrooms are small, but adequate. We really enjoyed walking into town everyday. We highly recommend Uncommon Grounds coffee shop and Pumpernickel's. We took the short drive to beautiful Opal Beach and the trails through the dunes. We had to turn the heat up one day and smelled gas fumes as we were leaving for town, so we called Kate. She came right down and checked everything and told us that it's not unusual to smell gas the first few times the heat is turned on. One of the burners on the gas stove turned off unexpectedly but she checked that out too. Everything was clean and there were plenty of towels.
