An original Southern Highlands historic property

Southdown was the original 335 acre 1857 Burradoo property.
Late in the 1880's it was reduced to 35 acres after being cut up for the Holly Park Estate, that now forms most what we know as Burradoo today.
It had been a summer house /property for Sydney establishment and Queensland cattle property owner.
In the 1880's it was owned by Sydney MLA John Lackey and later that century was a school for girls.
During the 1920 the famous "Southdown" riding school was established and remained that way until the late 1960's.

Beautiful property with no detail overlooked
Southdown Stables is a unique stay. The house is full of quirky collectables that are interesting to explore and set in a beautiful garden. The house offers comfort, space and all the facilities you need, fabulous heating and an open fire for atmosphere. Southdown is close to town, but equally pleasant to if you want to stay in and self cater. The generous breakfast options offered something for everyone and was very welcome for those wanting to sleep in.

Quaint and gorgeous
I stayed here for the first time for a girls weekend away. It was absolutely perfect. The cosy quaint vintage style was perfect for a winter weekend away. It was clean and warm. The little touches of fresh flowers in rooms and a lovely breakfast basket just added that little extra detail. I look forward to staying here again and would highly recommend. If a cosy cottage style is what your after then this is it. The gardens were beautiful and margaret was a pleasure to deal with.

Just like a Doll's House
Lovely cottage with lots of lovely appointments. Very considerate breakfast hamper included. This is a small property of quaint proportions. Managed to bump my head a few times in the upstairs attic-style bedroom. Extremely steep stairs to the upstairs area would not suit the elderly. My daughters loved their downstairs bedroom - very cosy. The log fire was lovely. Overall, a bit on the pricey side for the size of the cottage but extremely close to Bowral. I felt firewood should have been included in a winter stay. Gorgeous gardens. Very charming stay!
