Nice place to stay
Overall enjoyed our stay in this cozy cottage. It is advertised as sleeps 8, but the beds in the guest room are small for 2 people to share. I wish it had more than 1 shower. The garage is very small for anything except a very small car but parking around the place was pretty easy. Clean and had everything that we needed for cooking and dining.
Charming Cottage in a Lovely Location
Nice location, walkable to grocery store, Lido Marina area and beach. Great to sit out front and watch paddle boards, kayaks and gondolas go by. The home was clean, and plenty of pillows and linens were provided. The small kitchen (as pictured) was more than adequate. The decor was charming and calming. Would stay here again!
Cold week in Newport Beach
The house itself is charming but I was disappointed I was not told of the construction project next door. The problem wasn't so much the noise as the scaffolding and tenting blocking any sun to the lovely little beach house. Unfortunately it's unlikely this house will ever see much sun again due to the exposure and the remodel next door. The windows are facing in a north west direction. While it was 68-70 degrees outside I had the heat on the whole time due to the brick construction collecting cool air at night an releasing it in the day. The living room could use one more lamp, seems like such a simple fix and the TV is a bit small. I hate to seem so harsh, it is a nice home, and the access to the water is fantastic but I really was cold all week and every time I went out I realized how nice it really was outside. If you plan to rent in the summer when it's closer to 80 degrees outside then it would probably be okay. I did feel I should have been advised of construction project as I am in construction and would never have rented a house next to a construction project for my vacation. I was told the noise was minimal as they were focused on interior work but still had workers having conversation outside bedroom windows a 7 am and just general ambiance very different from expectations. The linens were nice, and plenty of pillows and towels. Once the scaffolding and tenting comes down it will be better but again, I was disappointed there was no notice of an active remodel.
It has been most frustrating to navigate through the construction project next door that has basically been off and on for the last 3 years. The project had been completely inactive for multiple months prior to Kimberly's booking and stay; this is the only reason we removed the notification that construction was taking place next door. We are constantly monitoring the activity there, but it is impossible for us to be kept in the loop by the neighboring owners or their construction crew....we've definitely asked for that courtesy!! So, unfortunately, we are left guessing about the status of activity, which changes constantly.
As a result of this limbo from day one, the nightly rate has been substantially lowered all along to compensate for the situation.
Worth the price
Had a writing retreat here. Was concerned because someone said there was mildewy air and I'm sensitive to that but I didn't smell anything. Very fresh. Very quite. Right on the water. The bathrooms are a little "grandma-is" but still clean and great. Its right on the water the awesome Rialto location. For the price you can't beat it.
Nice place. Very comfortable. Cozy
Everything was as stated. Nice location. Well cared gor
Wonderful location but rental company is terrible
This home, although old and badly in need of some updates, is in a wonderful location on the Rialto. However, the rental company that manages the property is terrible! You have to travel to their office to pick up keys at a specified time for check out and check in. Also, they are unable to accommodate even the most basic requests. No one was checking into this property for an entire month after us, yet they were unable to accommodate a late check out (the normal check out time is 10am...which is about 2 hours earlier than most VRBOs). The reason I was given had to do with the cleaning crew...but presumably if no one is checking in the cleaning crew could be scheduled on a different day. Then, the cleaning crew showed up at 9:15am! I also asked if we could drop the key off later in the day on checkout day (bc again, no one needed it for a month) and was told no.
There are so many lovely places to rent in Newport, I would steer clear of this one based on the rental company. As a prior reviewer noted, the bathrooms (especially the shower) are very dingy. The windows all appear to be original. Also, just as a heads up, the kitchen is stocked with nothing (not even olive oil) so if you plan to cook bring everything, even spices.
I would give the home 3 stars in its current location - it could easily be a5 star property with some minor upgrades. But the rental company is a 1! Part of the reason I like VRBO so much is you get to deal with real people, rather than a corporate hotel type setting. You don't get that here. Hopefully the owner reads this and considers making a change.
