About Harold & Claire

My wife Kimberly and I are both transplanted New Orleanians. We individually found our way to the city after Hurricane Katrina, both originally coming to volunteer in the relief efforts, never suspecting that shortly afterwards we would find our way back to make the city home because of our jobs. Kimberly arrived in NOLA permanently in early 2007 and I followed in the summer of 2010. We both fell in love with the city and then with each other! As an active duty serviceman in the US Coast Guard, I was lucky to spend six years stationed in NOLA but we were reassigned in the summer of 2016, forcing us to leave our adopted home. We love many things about the city but some of our favorites are: walking/running in the park, strolling Magazine street window shopping, trying new restaurants, volunteering at the homeless shelter, sitting out on the front porch in the evening talking about the day, or enjoying a quiet Saturday morning with coffee/tea and a good book and spending time with friends & neighbors.

Why Harold & Claire chose Mid-City

There are many reasons we purchased this home, one of them due to its convenience to the rest of the city. You can be Uptown, Downtown, in the French Quarter or out to the airport in under 20 minutes. We also chose this neighborhood for its proximity to City Park and Bayou St. John. We both love being outdoors and being so close to the park and the bayou means we can take advantage of being close to the water, the trails and the many amenities the park has to offer. Mid-City is very friendly and people are much more focused on being outdoors and mingling with neighbors than some of the other neighborhoods of the city. This emphasis on community is one of the major factors that drew us to the neighborhood.

Nice comfortable home for group.

  • 4 of 5

The House was perfect we felt welcome, it was comfortable, and well equipped with clean linens on beds and troweled laundry. Neighborhood was nice and close to trolley which I loved using.

Would definetly stay here again, and Harold kept us informed and checked with us throughout the stay. Great place!

Wonderful home.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here immensely. Our hosts were very helpful. Anytime we had a question Harold or the housekeeper Megan responded immediately. Be aware of potholes and poor excuses for streets throughout New Orleans, for us this has over the years just become part of NOLA. One bumper sticker summed it up well- “I’m not drunk, I’m avoiding the potholes”! We found a few great restaurants in mid city- Brown Butter and Neyow’s Creole Cafe.

A great home in a fantastic neighborhood made our trip outstanding.

  • 5 of 5

The house was in great condition and was a very tradition New Orleans home. It had all the amenities we needed. The neighborhood is fantastic, with a brewery/food truck and a bar/bbq within 2 blocks. It is also very close to the park and fairgrounds. The street car on Canal is only a few blocks away! Highly recommended. The home's manager was great to work with and provided good recommendations for our stay in NOLA!

Nice house, quiet neighborhood, walking distance to city park

  • 5 of 5

The house was nice, decorated nicely, comfortable beds and plenty of room for our large group. Trolly line on Canal is only a couple of blocks away. Working with the property manager could not have been easier he was very responsive and helpful. Nice area around the house with a corner pub and a pizza place right down the street. City park is a must see if you have never been, located in walking distance to this house. We will definitely be back to New Orleans and this house!!

Friend Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This property was the meeting place for two families to get together, reconnect, and experience new things together. It was perfect for our children - under 5 - as they played and played.

The first day we were there was rainy, but that didn't put a damper on our plans. We still managed to get out and see the Mardi Gras World. We were uninformed about the trolley system at this point and ended up using the Hop on Hop off bus tour. Which was fine for that day, but the rest of the days we utilized the trolley and liked that much better. Especially when touring around the French Quarter. The kids loved playing at the beautiful City Park which was just minutes away. The gorgeous trees and the pond there are a sight to be seen. We spent a good half day there and it really wasn't enough.

We ate at G's pizza one night since it was just right around the corner. We ate outside and enjoyed ourselves and our food. But the restaurant I really want to rave about was Neyow's Creole Cafe. A short drive from the house, but totally worth it. That was the one time we got to experience NOLA's creole food. Order the red beans and hush puppies and you won't be disappointed!

We will definitely rent this property when going to New Orleans in the future as it is 10 minutes away from everything!

Nice house in a great location. Close to the downtown area with all of the shops, restaurants, museums, etc. Also convenient for getting outside of all of the tourist areas of the city.

1.There is direct access to City Park across City Park Ave. it is a five block walk from the house.

2. The trolley line is two blocks from the house. Where we are located there are two stops you could walk to and either one is good. We have used both in daylight and night.

3. Within four blocks of the house are G's Pizza, a pizza/sandwich/salad restaurant that is very reasonably priced; MoPho, a Vietnamese fusion restaurant with great happy hour specials; Buds Broiler, a 24 hr burger joint; Beachcorner Bar & Grill serving burgers and other sandwiches; Haifa Cuisine, which is a Turkish restaurant. There is also a micro-brewery, Second Line Brewing, one block from the house that has a different food truck every night Wednesday-Sunday night. If you expand out to half a mile, still a very reasonable walk, there is a Panera Bread, Five Guys and Jimmy Johns, along with Pizza Hut, Papa John's and Dominoes if you are interested in chain restaurants. There is also Felipe's Taqueria and Juan's Flying Burrito if you want Mexican food. If you are in the mood for Asian/sushi, Little Tokyo is one of the best places I town. For a fine dining experience there is Brown Butter Southern Kitchen, Rue 127, and Ralph's On The Park, they are a bit more pricey but have great food and provide the New Orleans dining experience people are looking for. There are numerous other places as well but those are some of our favorites that are within walking distance.
